Flame dancing

I’m seriously losing my mind over dancing flames in tall candle jars. I’ve been having a huge problem with my candles once they burn down to around halfway through the jar. And when I say dancing flame, I don’t mean a little flicker here and there. I mean FULL ON TANGO.I’ve tested Stabilo, CL, PP, LX, TCR and HW wicks, plus wooden wicks, in multiple different sizes. I’ve also tried 3 different waxes and different fragrance loads. The candle can burn perfectly fine in the top half of the jar, but once it gets to around halfway down, the flame starts going crazy. Trimming the wick doesn’t really solve it either.At first I thought this was simply the physics of a tall jar — less airflow as the flame gets deeper into the vessel, heat building up, etc. But I’m seeing similar behaviour in other jars too, which is making me think there must be something I’m doing wrong.Has anyone dealt with this before?What could cause such extreme flame movement across different waxes, wick series and fragrance loads? At this point I feel like I’ve changed almost every variable and I’m still getting the same result.Any ideas on what I should be looking at would be massively appreciated because this is driving me insane 😅

Sounds like the wick is too big! In tall glasses the heat increases even more than in shallower glassware, so wicking down is definitely the way to go!

I have tried various sizes and unfortunatly smaller wick doesnt solve the problem, just makes new one bc i cant get full melt pool after hours od burning :/

There is no need to get a full melt pool in the first burn - a stubborn misconception! You’ll find especially with tall vessels that any hangup will easily catch up because of the additional heat. It’s either a full melt pool on top and too hot halfway, OR a little hanguo at the start and not too hot halfway ;)

What is the melt point of your paraffin wax? Do you use additives? You may be able to work with the wax a bit if you can't switch wicks.

I dont use parafin wax, im using olive and coconut mix, coconut and raps eed mix and soy olive mix. I have also tried just olive, jusz soy and just coconut. O have even tried double wicking with smaller wicks 🙈 i dont use colour, i only use FO and ive tried also with no Fo at all to see if it makes any difference (i doesnt). Ive irdered VRL wicks bc they should work with natural waxes better but im still waiting for them to arrive.

If your new wicks can't handle the soft waxes, maybe try hardening up the wax a bit with the addition of any of a variety of harder waxes.

How tall is the flame? I think people see flickering and think “oh no, dancing flame, I’ve messed up!” But flames are never going to be perfectly still 100% of the time. Drafts and such will cause flickering. A dancing flame is a tall flame that has a LOT of movement, like Shakira hips don’t lie movement.

How tall is it?

Tall “prayer” candles are paraffin and zinc core wick.

They are known as their best selling jars so i guess others had to find a way to make it eork somehow? I have tried their recepies and all but still no luck. Im aldo having the same lroblem with my ceramic jars that are a bit taller but same width.
