Candy Discussion Zero appreciation post
Shout out to Zero, one of my favorite candy bars that doesn’t seem to get much love. I don’t know anyone who mentions it in a contender spot for being one of the best, and it’s so good to me. Especially if you can get a fresh one. Who else loves Zero?!

Our local swimming pool snack bar used to sell these and Milkshake candy bars FROZEN. Milkshake was another Hollywood candy bar. They were delicious.

My mom's favorite candy bar. I still buy them.

My mom occasionally talks shit about them because she cracked a tooth on a frozen Zero bar 30 years ago lmao

My friends, dad put me onto them when I was younger. I grab one every now and then they are definitely underrated.

The GOAT!
We spent many a pool day afternoon buying frozen Zero's during the "GET OUT OF THE POOL, IT'S REST TIME"
My very proper in public mom would gnaw on them along with us. We were like hungry feral dogs with those things!

Had one the other day. For some reason, the canteen at the local VA hospital sells it. God bless the military.

Growing up in the mid 70's, the gas station near us sold candy, Zero being one of them. I guess it wasn't a big seller for the station, so the owner bit the price in half to move them. Well, candy bars were .20 so .10 for a Zero was right up my alley. I eventually bought every single one he had

God I miss the old school king sized ones. They were softer and had thick white chocolate

Where does one find this

u/NickDanger73 13h ago
Walmart has a six pack in the candy aisle.

Or gas station candy bar section. Usually middle to bottom shelf. They are never on the top :(

Spectacular candy bar. Put it in the freezer for twenty minutes and it is paradise.

When I was a kid, the snack bar at the neighborhood pool kept the Zero bars in the freezer. Those were my favorite treat on a hot summer day when rest period was called at the pool. There's something about having a mouth rinsed with chlorine that made them taste so good.

I buy them by the box on Amazon. I don’t eat them every day, but it’s good to have availability when I want one!

I am the exact same. I don't like white chocolate in virtually any other context, but zero bars I love.

These are my go to. The best thing after smoking a bowl. Just had one last night. So you can sign me up for the Zero appreciation post!
Interesting Did you know: Introduced in the 1920’s sold by Hollywood Candy Brands in Minneapolis MN under the name “Double Zero” because it sounded cool. As in cooler temperatures. Early packaging had polar bears and winter themed.
My mom introduced them to me when I was little. Still eat them to this day.

We had them in Canada growing up my mom would get them for herself, but our version was solid chocolate around the soft melt in your mouths stuff from an icy square . Also best in the freezer…

In my 40 years of being on this earth I have yet to try one. I will now. And I’m going to try it frozen so I guess I’m buying two.

Search this sub and you will find many posts about Zero candy bars. It's very controversial here. You either love it or hate it.

It's been almost three weeks since my last excursion to family dollar, the only store in a 200-mile radius from my house that sells them, and I have ONE LEFT. I don't want to eat it cuz then it'll be gone
1
u/rainbowsunset48 14h ago
What does it taste like? It doesn't look very good tbh but I'm intrigued.
1
u/synntax33 14h ago
Its white chocolate covering an almond nougat iirc. So like marzipan inside white chocolate outside
1
u/rainbowsunset48 13h ago
Hmmm interesting. So if I don't like white chocolate or marzipan then I probably wouldn't think it looks very good haha. I'm glad it exists though! Thanks for answering.
1
u/synntax33 13h ago
Possibly so! But you never know about some things until you experience them so theres always that 😊

Oh I used to love these and were my go to. But, thinking about it, I haven't seen one in ages. Are they now just in certain areas? Or the store I go to all the time just not stock them?

Zero has a special place in my heart because as a kid, on a plane flight, I was making my Zero bar talk to my brother by splitting the top into a mouth but the top part broke off and rolled around the plane floor as we banked and declined and such. I was mortified but we were also very amused. Simpler times.

I'll eat one of these annually, when I can, as it was the favorite candy bar of my late grandmother. They are, at worst, decent, and if anything, part of my enjoyment is remembering the wonderful person my grandmother was.

u/Relevant_Box4589 10h ago
Another favorite oldie is sky bar. Comes in 4 or 5 squares you snap off. Each is a different kind
1
u/Bobbo7209 9h ago
Last one I bought was stale. I love em, but it seems like nobody else in my town does. I think stores here just keep them on the shelves to gather dust
1
u/Wrong_Sector_7298 9h ago
I love them my dad would also get them for us at the local gas station, now as an adult I still love them

I haven’t seen one in ages, who makes them? Payday were also made by Hollywood, but now they’re made by Hershey.
1
u/petula_75 5h ago
I frequently grab one of these and a payday on family car trips so I dont have to share with my wife and kids.

My biggest pet peeve with a Zero bar is how the barcode is placed, rotate it 90° and it would be golden
-signed a frustrated cashier
1
u/michaelpellerin 3h ago
When I was little, I was the only one in my friend group who liked these, so I never had to share!

What is it? Must be american if it's calling itself a "candy bar"
3
u/Guilty_Surround9108 11h ago
Yes it’s American. It’s white fudge on the outside and nougat, caramel and peanut on the inside.

My dad loved these. He passed that love down to me and I have passed it down to my son. Absolutely one of the best candy bars.
