Sorry for the long post!

I’m from the Netherlands and I’m looking to connect with experienced Morelia spilota keepers in the area.

I’ve been fascinated by this species since I was young, and I’ve had my own Morelia spilota since he was a baby (11 years ago). I’ve spent years watching videos and learning about their behaviour, and I absolutely love the species.

When I first got him, he was quite defensive, but I wasn’t afraid and handled him regularly. Over time he became incredibly calm and we developed a really strong bond.

After moving house, however, he became extremely food-motivated. Unfortunately, my wife was once bitten and constricted while handling him. She was completely fine, but the experience made me lose confidence.

He isn’t generally aggressive or defensive, he just has a very strong feeding response sometimes. Now, I currently use gloves when handling him, but I’d really like to rebuild my confidence.

I’d love to meet an experienced Morelia keeper in the Netherlands, preferably around South Holland, watch them handle their snake and, if possible, eventually handle a calm Morelia myself under supervision.

I think seeing someone experienced handle one confidently would really help me get over that mental barrier.

He is otherwise doing great: he eats very well about every 6-8 weeks, sheds perfectly, and is in good health. Very occasionally he has a small piece of shed remaining on the tip of his tail, so I help him remove it (Is mainly about being able to properly take care of him (clean his enclosure, change his water, help with shedding when needed, etc.) without being afraid.)

I’m happy to travel within the Netherlands and would of course be happy to compensate someone for their time.

Hi yall im in australia and have a senior?* jungle python hes approximately 11 years old and at reached 6ft just unsure on his exact measurements. I just got scales for the first time in a while and discovered that hes 5.6kgs which seems like it might be alot. Theres no signs of obesity near his tail bones which is what I initially looked out for though i now realise there may be other signs to look for.

he has a large 6ftx4ftx4ft enclosure he has lots of area to move and enrichment. I know he was power fed by previous owner till about 3years old.

Is this completely out of range ? I just fed him a 300gram rabbit after 6.5 weeks its winter here. Any insight appreciated as ive found it hard to get info on snakes over 10 years old. Hi guys! I fed my 4yo coastal girl yesterday. She got a chicken (otherwise she won’t eat) and then a 250+g Rat. I am so scared that that was too much for her. Look at that lump! Will she be able to digest this safely?

An old pic so she’s a lot bigger now - probably twice the size. Her body is now as thick as my arm.
Been having issues with feeding my 5yo North Western Carpet Python. Was feeding her every 2-2.5weeks but she was getting a little grumpy by the time her feed came around and was lashing out (caught a couple bites), so I started feeding her every 10-12 days instead and that’s been going fine for a couple of months. Now all of a sudden she’s refusing to eat. It’s been almost a month and I’ve tried twice to get her to eat but she’s refused both times. She seems interested, will come out of her hides to give it a good stare and then will turn around and back to the hides she goes.
It is quite cold, we live in Australia so coming to the end of winter, but her tank is still reading around the 20-25 degree Celsius range. She’s got plenty of spots to hide, I haven’t been handling her very often, she’s not showing any signs of needing to shed. I’m thawing her rats at room temp and then heating them up in hot water beforehand.
The only thing I can think is that her enclosure is in the front room of our house, where we walk through multiple times a day, coming and going, but I do close it and we stay out while I’m trying to feed her. But again, we’ve had no issues feeding for the last couple of months.
Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated! There are VERY few specialty vets in our town so I’m sure I’ll be waiting a while for an appointment if it ends up I need one. Just want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong and save the trip if I can!

I have decided on getting a jungle carpet python for my family. I am still doing my research on this amazing snake and had a question. What size enclosure should I realistically look at? Would 4x2x4 be adequate for a male jungle carpet? Or do I need to consider bigger? We plan on getting him as a baby, but would like to get his final enclosure size right away and build it out properly.

Got a sweet dream JC snek back in January 26’ as a yearling. Weighed her yesterday and she’s gained weight to 217g! She’s a little spicy, so I’ve been working with her to chill her out—very cage defensive and I need a hook and gloves to get her out but she will still strike at me while out. Any suggestions? In the next year or so I’ll upgrade her but currently she’s in an 18x18x36. She’s slamming fuzzy rats/small mice every 8-10 days. Open to suggestions on things to add to her enclosure as well.

hi! I'm going to be a first time owner to a jungle carpet python very soon, I heard they can be very food motivated and therefore I want to target train her but the only problem is I'm not sure what to use as a target. I've heard snakes are better at seen blue and red but idk if that's true if it is then I'll get a blue or red target, what can I use to make as a target for her?

My family is looking into getting our first snake. We had pretty much settled on the ball python, i have been doing research on enclosure setup, care, etc for the better part of a year (i always do a ton of research before making a commitment like a pet). However, today we went to a reptile store in a nearby city to see what all they had and they showed us a jungle carpet python. My wife, daughter, and I all fell in love with it. I was wondering if anyone who has had both can give me your opinions on each? We like how easy ball pythons are, but like how much more active and curious the carpet python is. Can you guys give me any reasons to NOT get a carpet python as our fist snake?

I have a couple of IJ - I’ve had them for about 5-6 years. I don’t know if they grew to their full potential or not. They’re about 5-6 feet long.

I can’t get them to eat rats at all. The times I have they’ll go off of food for a long time. They seem to have trouble digesting it? Not sure. Now if I’m able to trick them to biting a rat they spit it out immediately. A mouse they’ll hit it without question. But only one. They won’t take two the same day. I’ve felt that’s not enough so I offer another two days later and they usually take it.

I don’t know. They look happy. Can you post your adult IJ so I can compare sizes? Mine were sold to me as females, idk tho.

Great temperament on this girl

Hey everyone!
I’ve had my Australian carpet python for maybe 1.5 years, she’s a female and I was handling her lots and feeding weekly when she was younger. I’ve always taken her out of her enclosure to feed her as it worked best but then at a vet check, they said she was a bit too fat and to cut back on the feeding. I started feeding her every 3-4 weeks but she turned not very nice, obviously because she’s hungry and is used to getting more food. I got bit really badly through a finger joint and couldn’t use my hand for a couple of weeks - only time she’s ever bitten and got too scared to handle her for a bit (pussy, I know). I’m really wanting to get back into handling her but she’s definitely more timid now and associates me with food. I have a few questions:

1. Is it okay to feed her in her enclosure? I know some people do and some don’t. I’ve always taken her out because I didn’t want her to associate every time I was opening her enclosure with feeding time but she’s gotten so big now and it’s been a really stressful time for all involved trying to get her into the other feeding tub. I worry about her swallowing substrate too.

2. Is feeding every 3-4 weeks okay for a 1.5 year old female python? or is it not enough? She’s on one medium sized rat, I slowly worked up from pinkies.

The guy I originally got her from, bred them & I thought he was a pretty good snake owner but turns out he wasn’t. So I’ve had to change a lot of things he taught me to do. I worry about not being a good owner for her.

She has her own set up in her own room and I tend to just leave her alone until feeding time (I check in on her daily though and spot clean), deep cleaned when I could. I would really like to get back into handling her but just don’t know what to do from here. She always shed monthly when I was feeding her weekly but now sheds about every two months. This okay?

My family is getting a male ij carpet python in two months, i found this enclosure and was wondering if the siize is good, I figured the the height will make up in width. If not then we will likely be getting a 4x2x2.

I am also curious about which heat lamps best fit for carpet pythons, and which ones you recommend. please share advice and experience, thank you!

EDIT: Alright so we purchased a 4x2x4 from zen habitats, we are getting him between 1.5-2 years old so I’m planing on piling in lots of vines, sticks and cork (how do you sterilize cork?) We also have a 125w heat lamp along with a uvb and are planNing on getting an 100w ceramic heat emitter. Not sure what size rats/mice I will fed yet. does anyone alternate between quail and mice?or will they be picky and stick to the one they like? (Once we get him I’ll definitely post pics he’s so pretty!)

Hey guys! I just purchased a jungle carpet python. I know if it's a full jungle it'll be between 5-7 feet, humidity is 50-60%, hot spot of mid 90's, gradient the rest of the enclosure into the 70's.

Iv got a yearling. Planning on putting him in a 4 x 2 x 2 until he outgrow it, then throw him into a 6 x 2 x 4 minimum. My main ask is: please dump your experiences on me with these pythons. If bioactive is the dumbest thing you've ever heard with this species, tell me (I won't listen but yk). If my setup sounds whack, tell me. What setups do you guys do? I use grow tents for my snakes.

She's a hypo Morelia Bredli, she's gorgeous and wants to murder me and I love her so much 😭

I said I was going to focus on just the one snake when I got back into keeping with my imperator, but I've always adored carpets and had to have her. She is named Misty!

I have a male Bredli growing fast he reached 1yr last month. I recently purchased a 6x2x2 pvc enclosure. It will be bioactive with a radiant heat panel etc…

My question is at what point do you see diminishing returns when it comes to platforms or branches? When the python reaches his max adult size will he eventually just hang out on the ground?

I’m just really struggling to find a way to add branches that he can grow into as an adult or a good layout for the future.

If you have pictures or examples, I will gladly look at them thank you.🙏

Im making a bioactive enclosure, is there any topsoil you guys suggest thats available in Aus. Maybe Bunnings or something, I prefer something cheaper cuz im broke.

We can get her out when she wants to come out of the tank but like when we go take her to the vet we have to wait for her to want to come out to get into to get her into the tub otherwise it's just a real hassle and it takes two or three people to get her into the tub that we use for transport does anyone have any tips

Breeder sold me as a 75% bredli 25% Wild type (mother bredli x father was a mix between a bredli and Morelia spilota)

Just finished adding the decorations today and was able to move him in! I know he's small compared to the enclosure, but I know he'll use every inch of it. He was always very active in his last enclosure so I was excited to get him moved into an enclosure where he could explore more.

This is my boy Flippy (don't judge my nephew named him after a Dogman Villian), to your knowledge so these guys get 'teenage' attitude shifts? He's around three, and recently has started being more cage aggressive. Not something he ever used to do. Bitten me twice and he's one that has never done that. And before anyone comes at me, he has an upgrade, its a 6x2x2 from Zen Habitat im waiting on the section that was back ordered. Any advise?
