Welcome to /r/catfish! PLEASE READ THESE RULES

Hello everybody.

The mods received a message from an admin recently. Another 6/20/17.

The sub had been due for a revamp of the rules and a stickie post concerning such for some time now, so this is as good a prompt as any to follow through.

New sidebar: http://imgur.com/a/aAbC7

DESCRIPTION

This subreddit is meant for any and all discussion, story-telling, or information sharing (within the rules) concerning catfish and catfishing (no, not the actual fish). If you choose to participate in this community, you must adhere to all reddit and subreddit rules. The stance of this subreddit is one of anti-catfishing.

Reddit Content Policy

Reddiquette

Clarification: Anything to do with catfishing can be posted here. That can be linked posts (pictures, articles, etc) or self posts (text). Content can come from catfish, victims of catfishing, catfish-hunters, or really just anybody curious about or have information/questions on catfish/catfishing. This sub is NOT pro-catfishing. It is anti-catfishing. That being said, catfish can still come here seeking help with their problem or to tell their story.

What is catfishing?

to lure (someone) into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.

RULES

1) Treat each other with respect. Just be friendly and helpful.

Clarification: No name-calling, grating sarcasm, being generally annoying, derailing threads, trolling, or anything else that lowers the value of or redirects the focus from a serious discussion. Letting a catfish know that they're an asshole is probably fine here and there, but if it's all the time or no other constructive feedback is given, then the rule will be enforced.

.

2) No sharing of contact/identifying information, whether your own or somebody else's. That includes phone numbers, email addresses, online profiles, usernames, real full names, physical addresses, etc. Exceptions may be made for fake personas.

Clarification: Nobody is allowed to reveal contact information, online profiles, or any other identifying information on a real person, or to provide enough bits of vague/broad information that a real identity could be determined through doxxing. However, fake identities, profiles, and usernames that are used by catfish for their deeds can be revealed. THERE IS A FINE LINE!!! Fake profiles may include pictures of real people (besides celebrities and pornstars or other public figures), real contact information, or real identifying information. So when thinking about posting catfish information and leads, please always check to see if anybody's actual identity will be compromised, or keep in mind this possibility.

.

3) No catfishing (obviously). Also no doxxing, stalking, harassing, brigading, or any other obnoxious/malicious behavior.

Clarification: Basically, don't follow people around or exert effort into making their online or real lives harder.

.

4) No pro-catfishing sentiment or promotion of catfishing strategies/tactics.

Clarification: Catfishing is a waste of a person's time at best and a detriment to a person's mental state or livelihood at worst. Catfishing is obnoxious, dangerous, and pathetic. This is a place to spread information on catfishing so that there can be fewer victims in the future, or so that victimhood could be made shorter and/or less severe.

.

5) No advertising/commerce. This is not a subreddit to buy/sell/trade products or services, nor to drive traffic to a profile/website. Exceptions may be made if the content is still catfish-related.

Clarification: Only exception made thus far (that I'm aware of) has been for the Catfish TV show: https://redd.it/4w6ikj. If you'd like to do any kind of catfish-related promotion, please send modmail.

.

6) No low-quality posts or comments, aka "shitposts." Content must be clear, detailed, and easy to read. Format as necessary.

Clarification: There needs to be enough detail for the community to know what you're talking about, and the information needs to be formatted well enough to be readable. Please use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. The wall of text can get really bad here.

Even further elaboration:

No More Pictures With No/Insignificant Context, Follow Rule 6

.

7) Mark all NSFW content as "NSFW," whether they be posts or comments, pictures or text.

Clarification: "NSFW" stands for "Not Safe For Work" and denotes some form of sexual, overly profane, or grotesque content. All images and text containing NSFW content must be marked "NSFW." If the post is already marked NSFW, it should be assumed that all comments may also be NSFW.

.

8) No content involving the actual fish. The joke has been done to death.

Clarification: Seriously, just don't.

.

9) Report all rule-breaking. Use the report button and/or send modmail.

Clarification: It's the community's responsibility and in the community's best interest to keep this place on the level. The community at large has more visibility and is quicker to respond than any one mod; therefore, it's best if everybody were proactive in reporting rule-breaking and suspicious activity. This way, we can do anything from reduce the damage of a Rule 2 violation to preventing the sub from getting shut down by the admins for negligence.

MOD ACTION

A mod reserves the right to, when dealing with rule-breaking or suspicious behavior:

  • remove content

  • ban users

  • question users

  • request verification

  • lock threads

  • report content/users to the admins

A mod may also participate as a normal community member.

Clarification: A mod can do several things to better the community. But while a mod is not performing those actions, they are just a regular community member like everybody else. They are allowed to post and comment as normal.

Moderator Guidelines for Healthy Communities

moderation

YOUR INFORMATION

If you see content on this subreddit that is clearly referencing you, whether it's misrepresenting you, revealing your identity, stealing your content, showing pictures of you, etc, and you need it removed, please send modmail including links and/or screenshots of the offending activity.

Clarification: Pretty simple. /r/catfish should be a place to help the online community prevent or reduce catfishing and other harmful activities rather than promote them. So if you see anything of yours being mishandled here, please let the mods know immediately.

VERIFICATION

If you would like to submit verification, or have been requested to, you must send modmail containing 2 clearly non-identical photos of just yourself (selfies) that contain the following elements:

  • your username

  • the current date

  • this subreddit's name

  • your face and/or torso

The message must be hand-written on something within the pictures. The pictures must also be decently lit and non-blurry. Obviously, the pictures cannot be manipulated in any way.

Clarification: This process establishes a real-life physical identity, which is important in some situations. It DOES NOT establish a real-life personal/lifestyle/livelihood identity. That means verification can be used to match a body to a body somebody is claiming to be, but it can't match a personality/lifestyle/livelihood somebody is claiming to have. Since most catfish build a different body into their fake identity, this process can assist with revealing those catfish, but it can't assist with revealing only those catfish that are pathological liars.

ANYTHING ELSE?

If there's anything else that should be addressed or clarified, you can leave comments on this post or send modmail.

"I spent a month talking to a catfish on Reddit – here’s how I caught her (and all the red flags)"

"I want to share my experience with a catfish/scammer I met on Reddit (u/Sophiaharrington88). She contacted me randomly, and we talked for weeks.

Here are the red flags I noticed:

· She claimed to be from Australia, then said she lives in Miami. · Her Reddit account was created in April 2026 and is now deleted. · She sent me pictures that I later found on Pinterest (multiple photos). · She used Christian prayers but later claimed to be Orthodox Jewish – and texted me on Shabbat. · She gave me two different phone numbers: one from Texas (+1 956...) and one from Miami (+1 305...). · When I asked for a video verification, she always avoided it. · She mentioned investing, flight costs, and asked about my financial situation. · Her English had patterns like "Am" instead of "I'm" ● Alleged Name: Sophia Harrington Alleged Age: 39 ● Alleged Nationality: Australian (later said she lived in Miami, Florida) ●Alleged Occupation: Accountant Alleged Marital Status: Divorced Alleged Reason for Divorce (changed twice): • First: She said her husband was an addict and physically abusive. • Second: She said he was an irresponsible man. ● Alleged Children: Two children (Stephen and Vivian, ages 6 and 8) ● Alleged Family: • Married sister living in Jarrell, Texas • Another sister living in Miami, Florida • Uncle also living in Miami ●Alleged Religion: • Christian (sent Christian prayers) • Then Orthodox Jewish (said she goes to synagogue and observes Shabbat) Alleged ●Time in Miami: About 7 years (claimed she moved to Miami 7 years ago from Australia) Platforms ●Used: Reddit (u/Sophiaharrington88 - deleted), Telegram, WhatsApp ●Notable tactics: • Quickly building a romantic relationship • Requesting to move to Telegram • Requesting profile pictures

What I'm looking for:

· Has anyone seen these photos before? · Has anyone had contact with this person? · Any advice on next steps?

Be careful out there. Trust your gut."

Does it sound like I’m being catfished

so I met this girl on Reddit. things just seem suspicious but also legit. its just weird, I have chronic pain and she does too, in fact she has what I have. she has sexual trauma in her past but does talk about sex a bit. when I first met her she said she wanted to tell me a story but it was too long to type so we started voicing over discord quickly. She just told me how her mom went to go drive her somewhere but forced her out of the house quickly do to time and so she got into the car only with bra and underwear. it just feels to sexualized of a thing you know? She also freely sent me her id so I would not worry about anything which Is also kind of strange

. however she does not want to date yet and wants to take things very slow, but I don’t know if this is a tactic. some days she does not message me because she does not feel good which I don’t feel a catfish would do. Idk what to make of it. should I do a video call and see if it matches pics?

The Two Sides of Catfishing

I catfished a girl for 10 years. When it started, in 2016, she was 18 and I was 22. We met on Habbo. I had never done anything like that before. For a few years, I would sometimes go on there and meet people, and I did lie to them about things in my life, but I never pretended to be someone else.

After a bad experience, I stopped going on there and stopped meeting people online for a couple of years. Then, at the end of 2015, I was bored and decided to go back to pass the time, but this time I decided to protect my identity. I chose a name, an age, a city, and simply interacted with people there for a while without putting my identity at risk.

Not long after that, I met this girl, and I got hooked on the way she treated me. I thought, “Well, flirting for a while can’t hurt. It’s the internet, it never goes anywhere.” And that was my first mistake: believing I could flirt with her without actually becoming emotionally attached.

We moved to WhatsApp, and the flirting kept escalating until, within barely a month, we were already confessing our feelings for each other, and after two months we became a couple.

Meanwhile, obviously, I didn’t just fail to tell her the truth about who I was—I built an entirely fake family, financial, and social life. During the first few weeks, I told her that I didn’t want a video call to ruin the magic of seeing each other’s expressions for the first time in person, and she agreed. We agreed to meet, but it never happened. I don’t remember what excuse I gave.

The thing is, the relationship kept getting more and more serious. I wasn’t able to stop because I felt loved in a way I had never experienced before, and she never pressured me enough for me to even feel afraid of being caught.

And this is the part I can’t get past. For 10 years, that first excuse for not video calling was enough for her to never ask again. We supposedly lived only two hours apart, and after that first attempt to meet, she never asked whether we could see each other. Even when my father got sick two years ago, she never asked whether I wanted her to come see me, which would be the normal thing to do in a relationship.

Because that’s what we were. We talked 24/7, behaved like a couple, had sex, intimacy, affection, and plans for the future (which I obviously knew were never going to happen).

She also ignored other very obvious signs, like seeing my real name on a banking app or on an official document and assuming it was due to some kind of computer error. And whenever she asked about something, I would give her some absurd explanation and she would just let it go. And there were many more things like that, some more obvious than others.

The thing is, three months ago she discovered the Instagram account of the person whose photos I had been using, and obviously that was the end of it. And what amazes me the most is that if it hadn’t been for Instagram’s algorithm, we would probably still be in that relationship today. Although, honestly, I was already very tired and was planning to leave, especially after my father died.

Over these past three months, I’ve gone over the relationship again and again and again in my head, and I keep reaching the same dead end: “How could this have happened?”

I know I’m the one to blame. I started therapy two months ago, and although I still sometimes fantasize about getting her back, I’m being honest with myself and respectful of her.

But there are days when I feel angry at her, because I reach a point where I think, “Either she was playing me too, or she’s the most innocent person on planet Earth.”

The thing is, I know she wasn’t playing me. I know she is exactly who she says she is—100% confirmed. I’ve wondered whether she might have been in another relationship or seeing other people, but I genuinely don’t know when she could have maintained something like that when she was always available to me.

I’ve heard that woman cry on the phone simply because she thought I was angry with her. Just four days before the breakup, she had an anxiety attack because I was already preparing my escape plan and letting her see that I might move away. She was very dependent on the relationship.

And that’s where I reach the dead end. No catfish, no cheating. How can someone who seems confident, has a healthy environment around them, and is intelligent overlook and fail to connect such obvious signs?

To what extent did she need the relationship so badly that she was afraid to burst the bubble and ask me to meet in person?

I want to clarify that during those 10 years I never manipulated her by using illnesses or serious situations. Unfortunately, the only illness present during the relationship was real, and it took my father from me. Other than during the first 2–3 years, it wasn’t even a toxic relationship. In fact, it was very monotonous. There were no major fights. I never pretended to be the victim because of mental health issues, and I never tried to isolate her.

I’ll repeat that I know I am 100% at fault, and even though I never planned for it to happen, I should never have done it. And once feelings became involved, I absolutely should have stopped.

But I’ll always carry the question of what was going through her head for her to put up with something like this. I’m pretty convinced that she was looking for a long-distance relationship, and that achieving that goal, combined with a lot of idealization, made her stop paying attention.

But I have the feeling there was something more, and I don’t think I’ll ever find out. And that’s what makes me feel both more guilty and, at the same time, relieved.

Because I hurt someone who was that good.

But I also know that we were two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. We probably both needed to hide, we just did it in different ways.

I know what I did was incredibly wrong, so you can spare me the insults. I’m not going to feel any worse than I did when she asked me to take care of myself because she couldn’t stay after a lie like that.

I just needed to vent. Sorry for my English.

Has anyone met their catfish and liked the real them?

I posted last week about having been catfished for my first experience of dating after separating from a 15 year relationship. I found out after a month of messaging, with a google reverse image search, initially I was inclined to think it was the person in the photos with a fake narrative. Now after some digging I’ve found out (because he’s admitted it) the guy I’m chatting to has used someone else’s photos and it seems he is now being “honest” with me. And the majority of the person I’ve got to know is actually true, just not physically.

I’ve now had some kind of vague photos of what he actually looks like and although he’s not the hot guy in the photos and probably not someone I would usually be attracted to, I am still attracted to his story and personality.

It’s hard to know if he’s been able to be more confident because he’s been hiding and he’s saying he’s quite insecure about his looks and I can see he’s not conventionally good looking and in some ways I feel empathetic to him now and I feel shallow that I would reject someone who I’m attracted to personality wise just because they’re not the hot guy in the photos.

But it’s hard because now all the imagination I have of who this person is, is attached to photos of a person that isn’t him.

I guess I’m curious whether I should now give him the benefit of the doubt again and try and rebuild some trust in what he’s now telling me is the truth because I like his personality… even though I’m possibly not attracted physically. But if we have the same chemistry in person maybe I could get over the physical attraction 🤷‍♀️

Not sure if catfish…

So there’s a person I matched with on Tinder that I’m not sure is a catfish. On Tinder they are not photo verified or id verified but three out of four photos has a check mark and the one that doesn’t is an animal. They have mentioned wanting to video chat with me multiple times but are also not super forthcoming about details about their life. We talk on WhatsApp but they have a business account and the name is just an initial. Now they haven’t asked me for money or sex or really anything like that. No ickyness whatsoever actually. But I can’t find info about them anywhere and the phone registered to WhatsApp is showing registered to a woman not in the same area as him.

Obsessed viewer on my channel is onto his 5th fake account.

i've had many incidents of people making fake accounts to try to get in contact with me again or to be part of my small YouTube community, they were old online friends. Most of the time I've caught onto exactly who they were and they've gone away.

But there was a recent ongoing incident that seriously amazes me. I make some videos that might be considered somewhat controversial to some people, but I believe they're not. I give nuanced opinions on relationship and dating issues (some of them are revolving around the "pills", if you get what I'm referring to) so I do get some angry guys who twist everything I say.

This one person, we'll call him CK, has relentlessly made many fake accounts, one a day to try to continue to get access.

First he disagrees, then he escalates to insulting me, then he apologizes, rinse and repeat. he's opened fake accounts to try to sockpuppet and look like more people agree with him, he provokes my subscribers, and carefully watches my comment sections, waiting to strike again at me or someone else.

i caught onto one of his fake accounts (Noel), and he started taunting me, I hid both his main which he changed his pfp to him as a child it looks like, and 2nd fake acc after he kept reposting his comments, calming down a bit because he probably knew I was onto him.

then a 3RD fake account pops up the next day (Jake) (funny, it was created 40 min ago) and I reverse searched the automotive company in his profile pic, and it was from the island he's from.

he doesn't know how to create a convincing fake acc lol

i deleted that comment, then the next day a 4TH acc (created 30 min ago) "john doe" pops up, deleted

now today my intuition was right, he's using one of his old fake accs 5TH that's supposed to be a "woman", deleted

these fake accs leave "normal" comments.

this situation is so hilarious to me, he's probably not even a "hater" but rather he's obsessed and wants to stay very relevant on my channel. He doesn't realize I've always been steps ahead of him.

he'll probably run out of accs to make, and let's hope he doesn't email me but just wanted to share this fiasco.

Catfish or just timewaster?

I been catfished before and it was obvious enough I blocked and moved on asap and I am pretty sure am being catfished atm... his pp here on his profile doesn't match the pics he sent me and it started very intense and love bomb-y to really cold and off-ish... almost over night.. anyway we move to Telegram (as he claims he deleted whatsapp to get off american apps...) and a notification came up from Telegram that it was an unofficial account i.e. unverified and the user had changed their name 1 hr ago. Very Sus.

I did bring up the different pics thing and he came out with a bizarre story that it was a burner account he used to do some digging on stolen goods of his 🤔🤔

I have still kept an open mind and we spoke a little there agreed to have a call - something I pushed for a bit to make sure its a real person or not. I heard catfishes rarely get on voice or video calls. But we spoke for <10 mins and he "had to go" with some waffly excuse.

Is this a catfish or just some dude wasting my time?

Catfished by someone who I’ve met!

Snapchat is the worst, I don’t know why I haven’t deleted it, as all the requests I got are bots trying to promote an OF account. But it’s fun to mess with the bots. So a few weeks ago I get a friend request and out of curiosity, I accept. Start talking and she says she’s from Midwest, I say I’m on the East coast. We talk a bit, and then she sends a picture. I immediately recognize it; it looks just like a porn Star. And not only that, I met her at a convention last year. I go google searching and while I can’t find the picture, I did find another with the porn Star looking exactly the same, wearing the same glasses, standing in from of the same style door and in room with the same exact color wall.

So I continue talking with them, waiting to expose them triumphantly. I eventually mention that looking at her picture, she looks familiar, like someone I know. Then no response. Crap. I want a couple days and message them asking if everything’s okay. I really want to nail them. Eventually they respond that all is good. They then ask where I’m from, which is sis, as we already discussed this. So I name a state, and they say they live there too. So I call them out on how they already answered differently. Then I expose the picture thing, explaining how I know they’re a cat fish, as I’ve met the person in their photos. And I don’t hear from them again. Not the most satisfying ending, but a fun adventure none the less.

Caught a fake image online

Hi, just wanna share an experience i had last May

Soooo, someone posted a selfie on IG that made me pause (tbh at first cause he looked cute hehe), but also because he followed me. But then I noticed something SLIGHTLY off about it... like weirdly off

still cant say with 100% centainty what was going on with the photo, but there were enough weird things about the account that i wouldnt trust it either way. he really made it look like he was real too based on his captions and stories on IG. Even the way he posts made me think he was just one of those IG guys lmao

but anyway, curiosity got the best of me and i had to know if he was actually real so I could confront him :) ran the photo through truthscan and the result made the guy even more SUS, so I started checking his account then tried searching him up, and his comments were OFF...

I even tried messaging him and never got a reply. good thing i wasnt the only one who noticed because other people were also commenting on his posts asking if he was real or not. I mean AI influencers are cool but atleast they should tell us that they are AI only right?

Anyway, lesson learned. apparently one slightly weird selfie is all it takes for me to become an unpaid internet detective hahaha

Photo verified person on Tinder keeps asking for my phone number?

Basically, I matched with someone on Tinder and they are photo verified. But they are very adamant about getting my phone number, even after I’ve told them that I would prefer giving out my number after meeting up IRL first. Their location says that they are not too far from me. Have you guys ever encountered this before? Why would someone keep asking for a phone number, and what can they access with that? I thought I was talking to a real person because they’re photo verified, but I’m not so sure anymore.

Is it possible to verify the true identity of a person with just a phone number?

Ok, so i was texting with what I thought was a woman. (Could be, the jury is still out) I have her phone number, we been texting via WhatsApp, everything was going great, intense flirting, and then stops messaging me when i asked her for audios of her voice. How can one identify the person you were really talking with just a number?

After a full year of extreme Catfishing, trauma bonding, and psychological games, it’s finally over. (Looking for validation & healing)

I’m sharing this because I need to finally kill the illusion I lived in for an entire year.

I want closure. I want to put a final period at the end of this nightmare. And maybe I want to hear from people who have experienced online abuse, catfishing, manipulation, or trauma bonds.

I know how this looks from the outside. I know how many red flags I ignored. I know there will be people wondering why I stayed.

I ask you to be kind.

I was isolated, struggling with serious family problems, and I became severely trauma-bonded to someone who knew exactly how to keep me emotionally dependent on him.

About a year ago, a guy from another country randomly followed me and messaged me.

Within the first week, he was already telling me he loved me.

Not casually.

He had a whole future planned.

He gave me a specific date when he would supposedly travel to my country, meet my father, and propose to me. He sent me huge paragraphs describing imaginary conversations with his family about me, as if I had already become part of their lives.

I believed him.

Then, slowly, the relationship changed.

He introduced sexual conversations and began pushing boundaries I had never allowed anyone to cross before. He gained my trust gradually, pressured me into sending explicit photos, and then flooded me with affection whenever I gave him what he wanted.

Love. Tears. Reassurance. Obsession.

He would make me feel incredibly wanted, and then I would spend the rest of my time terrified of losing that feeling.

I didn't understand it then, but the highs were becoming part of the trap.

He almost never showed his face.

There was always an excuse.

At the same time, he became obsessed with looksmaxing communities and started telling me that he knew secret medical, anatomical, and biochemical techniques that could supposedly change his face and body.

He positioned himself as an expert. Someone who knew things I didn't. Someone I could rely on.

Later, he admitted that some of the explicit photos he had sent me were stolen from other people.

Even that came with bizarre explanations designed to make me question what I was hearing.

I should have left.

Instead, I became more attached.

Then came the day he had promised to come.

He got my father's number.

My father welcomed him.

He was ready to meet him.

And the instant my father replied, this man disappeared.

His numbers were deactivated.

His accounts were deleted.

Everything vanished.

There was no meeting.

No explanation.

Nothing.

Just me, sitting there knowing that I had told my family about someone who had apparently never intended to show up.

I was humiliated.

And somehow, I still wanted him back.

Weeks later, he returned through different numbers and fake accounts.

He started monitoring my social media. He questioned me about male friends. He contacted people behind my back.

He was controlling and invasive.

But I was lonely enough that his attention still felt like love.

He cried. He apologized. He told me he had only run away because he was broke, insecure, and wasn't “perfect enough” yet.

Then he promised me a future again.

He said he would take care of me financially. He offered me credit cards and money.

And I let him back in.

The cycle restarted.

Nightly calls.

Love bombing.

Sexual pressure.

Photos.

Emotional dependency.

Then April came.

Once again, he said he was ready.

This time, he claimed he had actually arrived in my city.

He gave me precise details about the airport.

He told me which hotel he was staying at.

He made it sound completely real.

But there was one problem.

I couldn't verify any of it.

Every time I asked for a photo, a live video, or anything that would prove he was physically there, there was another excuse.

Then he introduced something even stranger.

A fantasy about a threesome.

He created a group chat with a supposed third person.

Except the third person wasn't real either.

It was him.

Another fake identity. Another number. Another character he had created.

He was literally pretending to be someone else while talking to me as himself.

For days, there were excuses about why they couldn't meet me.

And then both numbers disappeared.

Again.

By our final reunion, I was already so conditioned to believe him that even the impossible started feeling possible.

He told me he was finally driving to meet my father.

He sent me a short video of the road ahead of him.

For a moment, I believed it.

He was finally coming.

Minutes later, he blocked me.

And disappeared.

When I eventually managed to reach him again, he gave me the same explanation.

He was weak.

He was insecure.

He wasn't ready.

He cried.

Then he asked me for 49 days.

Then up to three months.

He said he needed time to “fix himself.”

And this is probably the most humiliating thing I ever said to him:

“Take all the time you need. Stay behind the screen forever if you want. Just please don't leave me.”

I wasn't asking him to come anymore.

I wasn't asking him to prove himself.

I was begging a person who had repeatedly disappeared to simply continue existing.

Even behind a screen.

That was how deep the trauma bond had become.

The cycle continued.

More manipulation.

More love bombing.

More photos.

More broken boundaries.

More promises.

Until I finally brought another adult into the situation.

I told a family member about him so that, if he was genuinely serious about helping me financially, the money could be sent through them instead.

There was now another adult involved.

Someone who could ask questions.

Someone who could request account details.

Someone who could verify things.

And that was apparently the point where the fantasy could no longer survive contact with reality.

The day before he disappeared, he promised he would send me a gift, ship me the things he had supposedly bought for me, and transfer money to a family member I had told him about, claiming that everything would arrive the next day.

I had a feeling he was lying.

That night, he stayed on the phone with me until I fell asleep, i was scared i begged him to not leave me again and he promised that he would never. He stayed connected through the night and only disappeared at dawn, after making sure I was asleep.

He sent one final dramatic message:

“Thank God.

I love you, i love you so much.”

Then he deactivated everything.

Every account.

Every number.

Gone.

And this time, he never came back.

Looking back, the terrifying part isn't just that he lied.

It's how much he built.

The romantic future.

The family conversations.

The alternate accounts.

The fake person.

The fake hotel stay.

The fake journey.

The road video.

The stolen photos.

The medical and anatomical “techniques.”

The different numbers.

The different identities.

The endless explanations.

It wasn't one lie.

It was an entire reality constructed behind a screen.

And I was living inside it.

I don't know who he actually was.

I don't know what his real name was, what he really looked like, where he actually lived, or how much of anything he ever told me was true.

And strangely, I don't think I need those answers anymore.

Because whatever the truth about him is, the person I loved the person I was waiting for, the person I imagined meeting, marrying, building a life with was not real in the way I believed he was.

That's what I'm grieving.

Not just a person.

A person who never arrived.

A future that never existed.

A relationship that existed almost entirely through a screen.

And a version of myself who kept believing that if I loved him hard enough, waited long enough, forgave him enough times, or gave him enough chances, eventually the person behind the promises would finally appear.

He never did.

Maybe that's the closure.

There was never anyone coming.

So, was I being manipulated from the beginning?

And how do you finally grieve someone who was, in the end, a ghost?

I’m looking for the source of a photo. FaceCheck found the correct Instagram result, but I don’t have credits. I already tried Google, Yandex and Bing. Could someone with UnFake credits help me run one search?

I think someone in my friend group might be catfishing looking for advice

Over the past four years, someone in my server has only ever sent two photos of themselves. I wasnt in the server when the other one was posted so I only have one. I've tried reverse-image searching them and looking for the originals online, but I haven't been able to find anything and I also cant find any meta data. They also never actually talk and instead use text-to-speech whenever we're in group vc, which has made me increasingly suspicious that something isn't adding up.

I'm not trying to publicly expose or harass them, and I'm not going to post their pictures here. If there is a legitimate reason for all of this, I'd rather understand it than jump to conclusions.

If anyone has experience with reverse-image searching, identifying potentially reused photos, or general internet sleuthing, I'd appreciate some advice. If you think you can help, feel free to DM me and I can explain the situation privately.

I'm mainly trying to figure out whether there's actually evidence that the photos aren't theirs before I confront them or make any accusations.

Thanks :)
