Video - OC He brought his gf to meet me today
I’ve been feeding a stray black cat and looking for resources for him to get adopted/ cleaned up for a couple weeks and today I heard him meow outside my door. I looked and he had brought his gf. He waited patiently while she ate. He’s such a cool guy.
Edit: wow! Wasn’t expecting this to blow up. I posted and then went to sleep and then… anyway, I really enjoyed reading the comments. I would love to get these guys into a home. If you can adopt, please dm me. I’ll take care of their vet care. I’m in the Midwest United States.

He's doing a great job of showing her how relaxed he is and that you are ok.

He’s really laying it on thick! Very sweet of him.

u/Wishbone_508 23d ago
That's gotta be the coolest cat ever. He's a stray so you know he's hungry. But he just laid there all chill so she knew it was safe and waited for her to eat.

And she keeps looking to him to make sure it's safe. Such great communication through body language.

He’s so smart to think of that. To bridge the gap between species. Genius.

This reminds me one of the strays I was feeding for awhile and one day he brought an extremely skiddish feral with him to eat. The original cat never came back after that day but me and the feral (now Wazoski) is inside living his best life. He traded the outside life to have a stable dinner with lots of lovesssss. I’ve never had a cat “hug” so much and the head bumps just warm my heart.
You’re an amazing person but we both know that already 🤗34

I take care of a small family of cats and every now and then, a random feral will show up and it's amazing to see how they communicate with each other that I'm safe and they're safe here. I love watching them become more relaxed and confident each time they come around. Cats are so intelligent
29
u/Notchersfireroad 23d ago
IMO they are every bit as intelligent as dogs they just chose to use it differently.

My first real date with my husband was him cooking us dinner at his place. 10/10
47
u/chronberries 23d ago
My first real date with my wife was her cooking at her place. She knew I cooked professionally and wanted to impress me and find something in common.
She’s not a talented cook and it was terrible. Like truly one of the worst things I’ve ever eaten. It was this soggy sweet potato crust pizza thing. I pretended to like it, but she stopped me after a few bites and insisted we go out somewhere because she wouldn’t let me eat any more of that on our first date.
Her plan worked though! I appreciated the effort. I do all the cooking at home now though

Isn't it amazing how they model how to behave for each other? The other cat kept looking over at him to check out how he felt.

She's looking at him to make sure *he* is OK with her eating the food. The person putting down the food is not the primary concern. Stray Cat Strategy 101 - don't get shredded by the competitors, wounds are more expensive than food in the wild.

I think she trusts him. She kept looking at his body language to gauge the situation.
71
u/YoMamaIsSoBobbaFatt 23d ago
His body language is very chill with you. I even think he really likes you/trust you with those half closed eyes and laying there like fat roman aristocrat :):):) That makes her more comfortable to start eating and not running away, imho.
But what do I know. Only had one cat in my life, but love their habits/gimmicks

u/Significant-Dog-8166 23d ago
Just a tip, I don't know if you're already doing this or not - but aim your head away from the cat while they are scared and don't make eye contact. You can still aim the phone, but the head and eye turn really reduces the tension. Enemies watch, allies look away and show their back.

u/akruppa 23d ago
I was gonna say that. Focus your attention on him, not her. It's scary as hell when a giant beast ten times your size is very interested in you. Pet him - that's a good opportunity to show what a nice guy you are, it's a good opportunity for your cat to show how much he trusts you and the gf won't feel like you're hunting her.
144
u/Anonymous_mouse89 23d ago
While it was happening I had the thought that it would be helpful to show her how comfortable he is with me, so I mainly pet him and paid attention to him

They are a cute couple. I hope you get the spayed and neutered before you end up to late to help them not have a brew of kittens. They get adopted easier then spayed especially even neitered

u/basketcasey87 23d ago
I ended up with a family of 5 cats this way. Friendly white male tom/flame tipped Siamese chose my carport (Bubbles). Soon his sister/wife, a gorgeous, young, terrified black cat (Inky) appeared. She was feral/abused and so skittish. She would not come in the house. Ended up being pregnant and gave birth to her first kitten on me outside. Then she and baby Clarabelle finally came in. 3.5 years later, I now have Inky (who has come so far), Bubbles, and Inky's 3-year old kittens, Clarabelle (black and white), Luna (black shorthair) and Frida Catlo (black longhair)!

u/porcelain_doll_eyes 23d ago
I love hearing about cat families wbo have been able to stay together ❤️ I know it's not realistic at all that cat families can stay together lol but I feel like the fact that they got to stay together is so rare that it's really special. Thank you for taking care of them!

The expressiveness of these cats is off the charts. Little lady sitting so polite and nervous and her man just being like “Girl I told you it’s FINE.” And the way she keeps looking to him for assurance and then at the camera.

Even if noone reaches out to get them adopted. I hope you can at least get them both fixed. A lot of local rescues can help out with the cost. We had found a stray. We reached out on FB, and a local rescue reached out to us just saying take it to this vet. Tell them its this account to bill too. We didnt to pay anything. Granted the vet tipped his ear because of the type of neuter it was. Which we get, they dont know if we're gonna keep the cat. But still worth checking out

The difference in body language between the two cats is funny.

She got attacked pretty bad a couple years ago when we stayed with my brother and his cat. Ever since then she SCREAMS if another cat is around, even a kitten. She’s 11. I’m worried more stress will hurt her. She has a mild heart murmur.

Unsolicited advice: put something heavy, like a brick, in the lid part of the takeout box so the wind can't blow it shut on their heads while they're eating. Don't want to scare them away. Avoid a small object in case the wind is gusty, that way it won't launch at them. 🐈⬛🐈⬛

The same thing happened to us. We were feeding a stray cat that took up a residence in our shed and one day he heard the cat food can open, and called to his girlfriend, who came bounding out of the woods meowing. you gotta be careful because then we ended up with four more, kittens, two were boy and a girl that looked exactly like him and two were a boy and a girl that looked exactly like her. then they came for breakfast. Six cats plus our original cat that didn’t like any of them.

Aww!
Reminds me of the skunks who lived in our back yard in NH.
This big ol’ male lived behind the garage in the bramble, and learned pretty quick we were chill and left him alone.
We’d have fires in the pit and he would sometimes sit at the far edge just enough out of the way from everyone and observe.
In late summer there were two skunks, and eventually a litter.
Think they had maybe 3 litters over that many years behind the garage before moving in.
We called them Homer and Marge
