Day Trip to Chamonix From Annecy

Hi Everyone

My wife and I will be visiting Annecy for 3 days around the last week of September as a part of our honeymoon. We are considering doing a day trip to Chamonix from Annecy but after reading multiple blogs/posts looks like most of the things will be closed during that time.

Need your suggestion whether we can do a day trip from annecy and is it the right time to do it. We just want to enjoy the beautiful views

Tentative Date - Sep 26th - Sep 29th

Thanks

Half day in Chamonix

In a few weeks, I’ll be coming from Visp for one day. Between the 2.5 hr train ride each way, it’s basically a half a day in Chamonix. What would be the best way to get out see the area given this limited time window? I’m fit and can do a trail run if that’s the best way to get up into the mountains for a spectacular view. I’m not asking for much, just an easily accessible trail that makes me feel like I made the most of my day.

Thank you!!

Do locals really hate UTMB?

I’ve read that the current mayor wants to reduce UTMB Finals because locals don’t really love the fact that there’s hundreds of thousands of visitors in this single week disrupting every day life for them.

How true is this? As a trail runner, I love Chamonix and have been to UTMB three times sporadically over the years. Just interested what locals think.

Day hike recommendations end of September

Hello! I will be visiting Chamonix from Sept 24-30. I am looking for recommendations for day hikes - unfortunately it looks as if the majority of the cable cars will be closed for the season by then which is unfortunate timing for us. Hoping for nothing too strenuous! Thank you!

I'm still amazed that this was a simple cell phone photo. One of my favorites.

Vallée Blanche Glacier Walk (Sep 20-21) - Helbronner Route Worth It?

Hey guys,

I'm heading to Chamonix for a short trip and I'm planning to do a Vallée Blanche glacier walk on September 20 or 21.

I originally wanted to do the classic traverse from Aiguille du Midi to Pointe Helbronner. However, I checked the Chamonix guides website and saw they’ve changed the route. Because the Midi snow ridge is completely melted out right now, the hike now starts and ends at Pointe Helbronner (taking the Panoramic Mont-Blanc gondola across and back).

Has anyone done this modified Helbronner round-trip route recently? Is it still worth doing compared to the full traverse?

Midi cable car times

I went now to the box office and they said that now the midi cable cars opens at 7.10 for everyone no more 630 for climbers, is that true?

Looking for Rock Climbing Partner this weekend (Aug 26 - Aug 30)

Hey everyone,

I had to make a last minute trip to Chamonix starting today until Sunday.

I am primarily a sport climber, can redpoint until 7a sport, and have led about 15 multi pitches as well. I also have limited climbing gear with me in Chamonix because I didn’t expect to come here. Ideally, would love to partner with someone and do a big multi pitche adventure but even happy with some small sport stuff. I just want to go out and explore the beautiful area around Chamonix.

What are offseason transport options for Merlet Wildlife Park?

The shuttle from Chamonix ends in Aug and I’ll be there in Sept without a car. Are there non-hiking options to get there and back from Chamonix?

People who have worked in Chamonix for the summer- what was it like?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of spending next summer in Chamonix to get some real experience in all the sports that the incredible town has to offer, but need to find work in the area to afford it. I'd love to spend a month or two scaling some of the big peaks nearby, but will be stuck for cash as I have medical school residencies this year which are unfortunately unpaid. Therefor, I was wondering if many people come, as foreigners, to work there for the summer and if so, what is it like? What kind of work could they do, and whereabouts could I find such work in order to fund the adventures I'd like to do in the area?

Parking

Hi everyone. I'll be in Chamonix on Wednesday (just for the day). What're my chances of finding somewhere to park relatively close to town? And can people recommend some spots?

I know it's UTMB week, and driving is discouraged. But I'm coming from Morzine and have a 14 month old and a four year old in tow. We'll be arriving circa 9AM. Any suggestions greatly received!

Edit: thanks to the kind people who DM'd suggestions 🧡

Budget high level hikes

Planning a trip back to chamonix in September. I visited last summer and did the hike to glacé du tour from the middle station of the cable car. About 1000m of elevation but was a great day with some epic views (lift was also only around €20).

I am on a similar budget this time anyone know of some good hikes with cheap / no lift access needed. Preferably a little less strenuous than the 1000m ascent we did last time as that was a big old mission.

Would appreciate some advice :)

Planning Chamonix on Sep 20-21 – Vallée Blanche hike advice + looking for buddies

Hey guys,
I'm heading to Chamonix for a short trip, and I'm planning to do the Vallée Blanche glacier walk (from Aiguille du Midi to Pointe Helbronner and back) on September 20 and 21.

Since it's a glacier, I know I shouldn't go alone.

Do I need to book a shared group with a local guide for those dates, or is it easy to find people to team up with?

Also, since it's late September, will the cable cars still be open?

If anyone is planning to be there on Sep 20-21 and wants to team up, let me know!

Any tips or advice would be super helpful. Thanks!

Top 3 day hikes out of Cham

I’m gonna be in Cham during utmb (supporting a friend who is racing) and will have some free days leading up to the final race on the 28th. I want to do some solid 10+mile day hikes, happy to take public transportation to other trailheads. I don’t know much about the area and would love some great day hike options out of or near Chamonix. Thank you so much!!!

Skiing at Chamonix

Hey! I’m planning on going skiing during January 1st and 2nd of 2027. I’d really appreciate it if someone could recommend me any plan for two beginners, hopefully one that includes an instructor and all the required equipment. Thanks
