Right now my sonic is currently sitting at 81k miles. In the last few years of ownership this car hasn’t left me stranded however I keep an eye out for everything on my cars. I replaced the coolant arm and thermostat with new metal ones due to plastic parts breaking. I have a never ending fear of turbo cars mainly because I own 2 Miata’s for the last 7 years and they are the most reliable NA car I’ve ever owned. Recently Sonic sounds like water pump is starting to give out and I personally don’t like working on American cars. My question to you guys is would it be a good idea to trade car in now while it still has some value Because of the low miles and it being a premier package, or keeping this car and seeing if it makes it to 200k

I’m so over this car. My check engine light turned on on Thursday. The consult at the mechanic was gonna be $180 an hour, just the consult not the repair. I decided to give it a shot myself and I saw that my spark plugs were a bit degraded and I went ahead and replaced the coils as well. That came out to just about $200.

The engine light turned off, yay!

Then today the light came back on 🙃 I legit have no clue what could be wrong atp. It is running smooth, the air is coming out cool, there are no apparent obvious issues as far as I can see.

For starters, Ive got a 2013 Chevy Sonic 1.4 L turbo with the auto transmission. Issue is that Ill be driving on the highway going 30-45 and try to speed up to 60 and then randomly act like its in 1st gear, where the car wont speed up much and start hitting the limiter. Its been to the point where on the highway ill try snd speed upsomeone almost rear ends me.

Any suggestions? Im gonna run a diag on it that can give me a general direction of the issue but its still been hard to figure out.

Does anyone have a reliable place to purchase a metal water outlet as some of you have suggested? 3rd time this has happened in owning her 5 years and think it’s time I just spend the money to get it. Blew out on my way home from work 20 minutes ago.

just went and got my dinner. on my way home, a block before i get home, my engine temp goes off. so i pull over. coolant is gone. bone fucking dry. waiting for my mom to get here so i’m not standing out here by myself 🧍🏻‍♀️

I working on my daughter’s 2012 Cruze with 1.8L.

It had overheating issues and realized that fan isn’t coming on.

I have an aftermarket gauge to monitor temperature and it appears to be reading temp correctly, but fan is not coming on automatically.

It will come on with a bidirectional scanner at all speeds, so fan and relays are operating.

I’m thinking that it could be the temperature sensor not telling fan to operate but it’s showing the temps correctly.

I’ve got a 2014 Sonic. It’s been displaying code 71 on the odometer, and when I click anything to interact with that code, my cluster just goes black. It started after I disconnected my battery, and when I reconnected it to move my car, it was just there. I’ve disconnected the battery several times already to try and reset it, and nothing has changed. Also, nothing shows up on my OBD scanner.

I had my 2016 Sonic hatchback for the last 6 years, and for the most part, it was a reliable vehicle, but with the typical pitfalls that most of us have experienced. Bought it with 52K miles and parted ways with it at nearly 150K. I did have to replace the water pump, radiator, alternator, motor mounts, and had a persistent CEL with code P0420, and 4 different mechanics could not identify any issues. I have driven it to all 3 coasts, and had a blast, as this little engine that could had a surprising amount of zip to it (1.8L.)

All that to say that I’ve enjoyed lurking in this community, and there has been a good amount of advice from here that I’ve used on my repairs, and I want to thank all of you that have shared your own experiences.

But as my family grows, we have outgrown this car. I will sincerely miss it, but there’s also a sigh of relief.

I have a 2013 LT sedan. Used and 53,000+ miles. My windows are automatic. Both the passenger window and the back passenger window controls do not work. They also do not work using the control buttons from the driver side. Unfortunately, my back passenger window is stuck down and will not go up. Has anyone else experinces this issue? How did you fix it? Any recommendations? I took it to 1 mechanic and they informed me that they would need to order the motor required for my car, take out the door frame etc. Since they did not have the motor at hand, they did not fix the issue

I have a 2017 lt before I just start copping up cables. Any direction of how to go about it? I will be adding a 4 channel and a sub amp to it. Pretty much so far, the plan is chopping up the harness to get a signal back to the amps and run new wire up to the front to the door speakers. Thank you in advance.

I could not figure out what this box is and it’s not on any of the videos or diagrams for changing the thermostat housing. I was able to do it but this made it considerably harder for me. thanks. 2013 sonic hatchback lt 1.8 g engine btw

I will start by saying I am not mechanically inclined at all. I looked up how to change out the assembly and it seemed like something I could do. I got all the bolts except for the one on the bottom of the fan. I can not get to it for the life of me. Any suggestions on how to get to the bottom bolt to remove it. I have watched tons of videos but none of them actually show themselves removing it.

This is my 2016 Chevy sonic ltz and it’s been making this noise for a few days
It has a check engine light for underboost from the turbo going back, oil has been changed

The compressor is brand new and this was its first day running. The system was properly charged with 540 g of refrigerant, and I added 9 oz of oil, as specified for the compressor. There are no leaks, the system was properly vacuumed, and the A/C was cooling well at first.

After a few minutes, it started doing this.

Later, even with the A/C turned off, the pulley started leaking/spraying some black stuff, and the compressor began making a very rough, grinding noise, almost like there were rocks inside.

It's a Chinese... compressor, one of those cheap ones that cost around $160 USD.

What could have caused this? Was the compressor simply defective, or could something in the installation have caused it?

My car is a 2014 sonic chevy and its currently at 116,000 miles. Yesterday the engine and the traction control randomly turned on at the same time. When i put the car on R from P it made a weird noise and it made the car jump, I then put it on Drive mode and it made the same noise again but it was driving fine. I checked the dashboard and instead of saying D it said N then it switched to E. It drove me home just fine. Today i tried turning on the car and it made the same noise and same issues just the sounds got a little louder. The car is also accelerating by itself even though it was on Parked. I am really confused on what’s going on, my dad did tell me it might be a sensor thats supporting the transmission or it might just be the transmission. I’m not knowledgeable about cars and he isn’t that much either so i’d love to get some advice from someone who knows, it’s the first car i own so I am sorry if it doesn’t make sense, i’m just really scared of being left without car lol (broke college student)

Changing the valve cover and the little clip for this hose (PCV hose?) and the little metal clip sprung off into the abyss.

I looked for 20 minutes and couldn’t find it anywhere. Anyone know where I can replace it or something I can use as a replacement?

I call up a Chevy dealership. I say I need the O ring part numbers for these 3 pipes for the oil.cooler I am changing:

OEM 55353329 / 28290053): This is the longest horizontal metal pipe.

Short Angled Outlet Pipe (OEM 55353330): This is the sharply bent return line with the welded mounting bracket.

Small Straight Connector Pipe (OEM 55353327): This is the smallest bridge link.  Engine Oil Cooler Inlet Pipe with O-Ring

He says I cant tell you because unless you are buying it from us I cant mention it. I said is this a joke? I seriously think you are lost...So I will call up.other chevy places and test this but in the meantime..Anyone know the oring part numbers for each of these pipes? Should be 6 total and they may be different even on the same.pipe.

Hello, I have been having difficulty starting my car. If it sits too long, it won't crank at all. If I do the on/off on/off trick, it will start to crank and then start up fine. Driving seems fine. I checked the battery and it seems to be within proper voltage when sitting and starting. I changed the MAF sensor just in case and it may have helped but probably not as it is still an issue.

Google says it is probably a bad fuel pump. A guy at the repair shop I called for an estimate claims it is not and that he knows what the issue is(not the fuel pump), but not going to tell me.

Any ideas?

I’m upgrading the plastic cooling parts to Aluminum and the kit I bought did not come with a gasket for the oil cooler tube.

The one that was installed is pinched and torn.

Is this a special rubber or is there an o-ring that will fit?

Is it better to just replace the entire tube?

I posted this question about a week ago from the inside of my 2015 Chevy Sonic Turbo. This time around I opened the hood to better determine what this metallic sound is and where it’s coming from. Does anybody have any idea what part needs to be looked at and possibly repaired or replaced. It’s driving just fine and has no leaks, but that sound really worries me.
