Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennetts' visionary plan for Chicago was so ahead of its time and important for the city.

What are the hindrances to fulfilling his plan both then and now? What aspects are most important and relevant to you? What are unrealistic?

For instance, "The lakefront by right belongs to the people," and "not a foot of its shores should be appropriated to the exclusion of the people" is being challenged by private developer, Fern Hill in Edgewater right now.

A new Whole Foods Market is planned to open in Old Town, according to the neighborhood’s alderperson.

The grocery store chain recently signed a lease at the former Treasure Island Foods location, 2nd Ward Ald. Brian Hopkins announced Monday in his weekly newsletter. The building at 1639 N. Wells St. has sat vacant since Treasure Island closed in 2018.

An opening date has not been determined, Hopkins said in a statement.

Ivan Capifali, the commissioner of the city’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed his retirement on Monday via a news release from the mayor’s office following inquiries from the Tribune. The City Hall veteran assumed the role in March 2025 after his predecessor Kenneth Meyer retired.

Also Monday, Chicago Board of Ethics executive director Steve Berlin is retiring after 33 years serving in the body tasked with making sure officials and employees are practicing good government. 

Can I just get a sanity check on what folks are paying hourly for in-home weekly cleanings? I recognize rates differ for size of the home, number of people living in it, and if cleaning supplies are provided. Without going too into detail because this is the internet, I'm looking for a comp on a 4 bed (only two bedrooms are actual bedrooms - the other two are used as offices) 5 bath single family home in a northside neighborhood (but not LP), two adults and one dog, cleanings supplies are provided, and we are honestly very nice to whoever we work with. Maybe too nice and I think we are starting to see folks possibly trying to take advantage of that and it's a bit upsetting, but I also want to ensure we're not totally in the wrong here. Appreciate any input!

Was listening to WBBM and also checked the maps and looks like a very bad accident over on 80/94 or Kingery Expressway backed up from the 80/294 merge going east all the way to i65. Also looks like westbound Borman is backed up from i65 to Kennedy Ave.

I can’t remember all the details in the report but involved a semi and believe some very serious injuries. seems like a few secondary accidents over there as well. advise an alternate route or just forget going to Indiana today. Prayers everyone is safe 🙏🏽

I volunteered with an animal rescue a few years ago, and while I got to spend time with dogs which is great, my shifts were often me alone with the dogs (there would usually be an employee there as well, and often a more senior volunteer, but they’d usually be busy doing other stuff).

I’d like to spend time with animals AND have the chance to meet people/socialize. I live alone so volunteering is ideally a social outlet for me. TIA!

Starting last Friday Aug 28, I noticed my iPhone would have intermittent connection at the Clark and lake brown line L stop. Very slow or no connection even though my phone showed full bars and 5G+. Today I came back down and had the same issue. Issue stopped at the Clinton stop and my phone was working fine but I was heading home and noticed the issue started again at the Clark stop. I got on the bus traveling north on lasalle and captured speed tests at a couple stops.

Anyone else experiencing this?

You can use DIVVY bikes for free for up to 45 minutes, repeatedly. As long as you dock it before 45 minutes, you can ride em free literally all day long. And there's docks everywhere. If you go over 45 minutes, it's 5 cents a minute.

As well, you can ride the e-bikes for 5 cents a minute as well. This one aint free, but it's heavily discounted from regular price.

In a pinch I did this to do food delivery orders before i found a job. I am still on SNAP and use these to get around, etc.
