i have alot of trouble reading and the picture books like the thomas tank engine 5 minute story book had alot of words and was very hard for me and too complex and so was the dr seuss books but i like the preschool and kindergarten books they are easyer for me too understand and follow along and i have a happy time reading them all!!💜💜🐶

My 8-year-old was really into bedtime stories when they were younger but lately getting them to read on their own even for 15 minutes a day it has become a daily struggle. We tried using a reward chart on the fridge but they lost interest pretty quickly. Between schoolwork, screens and everything else competing for their attention, what are other parents doing to build genuine reading habits at home without making books feel like another assignment?

Looking for book recommendations for my one year old. Your favorite sensory, touch and feel, sound or otherwise engaging books to keep his attention and bonus if there is an actual story that can grow with him.

Most of our books right now were free from the library which is great and super helpful for a family on a budget but looking for something he might enjoy a little more right now.

Yellooo everybody!! Just for a lil context behind this post, I teach phonics + early reading at an after school learning center, and lately I've been trying to build a collection of seasonal books to read aloud with my students whenever the timing fits!! (I think it's fun + cute, and some of my fav childhood elementary memories revolve around holiday or seasonal celebrations at the school🙌)

Now that we're getting back into the new school year, I really want to grow and improve my collection of seasonal/holiday books~ this way, I can easily pull from a shelf throughout the year instead of having to scramble to find something good last minute every time a holiday rolls around 😬 hahahaa

That's why I'm curious and wanting to know what books y'all would recommend!! I'm really hoping for some books that are actually FUN to read aloud with younger kids too, rather than any boring ol book that just so happens to be about a particular holiday or mention it in passing lol

I'd rly appreciate recommendations for basically ANYthing throughout the year: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Lunar New Year, St Patrick's Day, summer break, winter, back to school season, etc etc. 
I feel like there's practically an infinite amount of Halloween or Christmas related books lolol, sooo it would be cool to discover some more niche books for less obvious seasonal occasions and things like that ((: 

So, what are some seasonal//holiday children's books that you/your kids/your students absolutely LOVE reading??? I'd especially love to hear the ones that y'all think are genuinely fun, memorable, or maybe have even become a classroom/read-aloud favorite over the years!! 

I am looking for a really specific page from a book and I think it was a "Where is Waldo"s book. I searched for it all over the Internet and was hoping someone could help me find it or give me clues. On the page I remember was a big factory. I think it was in space and like the art in most of the Waldo books it had many floors and things happening. Now the most distinguishable thing was probably that it was about sweaters being made from sheeps wool. And it showed the whole process from the sheep to the sweater being worn. Please help me thanks.

I'm looking for recommendations for my son. We need small format books with good black and white illustrations.

So far he's loved the small Winnie the Witch books and the first two Minecraft series books (Woodsword chronicles and StoneSword Saga). He loves all the marvel heroes, especially Spiderman. He loves Harry Potter. How to Train your dragon is big at the moment too.

I'm not opposed to fan fiction, so long as it's good. Fun stories and artwork are key.

looking for a book I read many years ago about siblings living with their grandmother the younger one is a 10 year old boy who loves trains but also gets into trouble all the time with the grandmother in part of the book the boy has a teacher who had to leave to take care of a sick mother in the country the boys older sister finds out were the teacher lives and takes her brother on a train trip to visit the teacher without letting their grandmother know at the teachers mothers house they do contact the grandmother by phone to let her know where they are there is a part where they have apple pie and ice cream

There is an incredibly generous author, Rita Reed, who has agreed to donate a copy of her book, Dogfish and the Gift of Inclusion or Tag! You're It written by Jannesy Deleon to every student in one classroom.

This is part of our program Books Into Hands, which is sending books to kids/teachers that need them. Some years ago I came across a picture book about a dresser drawer. I vaguely remember the book being about a kid and maybe the dresser getting sold or given away but the dresser drawer part of it stuck with me. I'd love some help figuring out what book it might have been. Thanks!

I got a lot of good suggestions on my last post about mushroom themed books, and I was able to get some on interlibrary loan! Here are our new additions.

On A Mushroom Day is my favorite so far - gorgeous illustrations! And the text pacing works well for my toddler. It goes well with Mushroom Rain and Fungi Grow.

The Mushroom Fan Club has a lot of information about different types, plus really cute illustrations! My toddler didn’t sit through all the text but I learned a lot from it personally.

The Mushroom of Doom is silly and funny. My toddler is a bit too young to get the joke but I think it would be perfect for ages 4 or 5.

Mushroom In The Rain has a fun twist! Classic fairy tale plot. The illustrations didn’t catch my eye as much but my toddler really liked all the animals squeezing under the mushroom.

Why do so many widely read picture books that are still widely read today come from the 1980’s? Books like the Brambly Hedge series, the Percy the Park Keeper series, We’re going on a bear hunt, Jumanji, The Polar Express, Animalia, Willy the wimp, The Jolly Postman, Possum Magic.
