Middle aged hipster looking to start a band and play shows

Quick about me: I’m new to the area, grew up in Seattle during grunge. My favorite albums are Surfer Rosa, Bleach, Keep it like a secret, Lonesome crowded west, Disintegration, Fugazi 13 songs, you get the idea. I really like post punk and the new psychedelic rock coming out. I can play drums, guitar, bass or keyboards. I’m not a savant at any instrument but more of a jack of all trades. Can’t sing. I also have a home studio. I’m also very liberal politically. I live in Covington not far from Olla.

Band rehearsal spaces?

Anyone aware of any rehearsal spots or musician-friendly storage facilities around the city? Even better if there's anything on the west side. I've been looking for one for years now but seems like no one has filled the void About Space left behind. I'm looking for something I can rent monthly and leave my gear at, not an hourly in-and-out deal.

NKY/Cincinnati Pop-Punk Band — Looking for Members

Hey! I'm in my mid-20s who's also a bassist/aspiring lead vocalist in NKY looking to put together a pop-punk/punk rock band.

I'm currently looking for:
 Drummer
 Lead guitarist
 Rhythm guitarist

Bonus if you can sing harmonies/backing vocals!

Influences include Meet Me @ The Altar, Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, and The Paradox. The goal is to play local shows, write/record original music, and have some fun with Pop Goes Punk-style covers.

I have a couple song/lyric ideas started, but I really want songwriting to be collaborative. I'd like everyone to bring their own riffs, lyrics, ideas, and personality to the music rather than having one person dictate everything.

Beginners/intermediates are welcome! I'm more interested in finding reliable, open-minded people who want to actually build something together. I'm dreaming big with this eventually, but I know that takes time — for now, I'm focused on building a solid local band and seeing where we can take it.

Rehearsals would be around NKY/Cincinnati, roughly every other week to start, with weekends being easiest.

LGBTQ+ friendly/affirming is important to me.

If you're interested, don't hesitate to reach out!

Cincinnati Jazz Musicians — Let’s Get Together and Play

Bring your ax to a casual, inclusive jazz get-together in the Cincinnati area for musicians who simply want to meet other players, make some music, and see what develops, and learn tunes!

Piano, bass, drums, guitar, horns, strings, reeds, vocalists, world instruments, percussion—any instrument is welcome.

The idea is not an audition and not a competition. You don’t have to be a full-time professional. Experienced jazz musicians, people getting back into playing, classical musicians interested in jazz, singers looking for instrumentalists, and developing players who can comfortably play with others are all welcome.=

• Jazz standards and the Great American Songbook
• Bebop, swing, blues, ballads and Latin
• Vocal jazz
• Improvisation
• Playing by ear and from lead sheets
• Bringing in tunes people would like to try
• Eventually forming smaller groups, trios, combos, or finding gigs if people click

The main goal is to create a friendly Cincinnati jazz community where people can actually meet and PLAY, rather than just exchanging messages online.

If you’re interested, reply here or send me a DM with what you play/sing, your general experience level, and what part of Cincinnati you’re coming from.

WHERE:

The sessions will take place in Northside, 45223. Please bring all of your own equipment.

There is a mic and amp for singers.

Let’s get some Cincinnati musicians in the same room and see what happens.
The host has been playing jazz/classical a very long time with mainly NYC, touring, and international cred.

WHEN:

Friday 7-10p.

Sunday 3-6p

WHAT:

PLAYING FROM THE REALBOOK. DON'T HAVE IT? IN THIS DAY AND AGE YOU'RE IN LUCK. GO HERE FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED. https://archive.org/details/fakebooks

-in jazz there is no critique, no judgement, no ego. If you understand how to listen, then you understand everyone brings a unique gift. Cultivating your talent is up to you. I know this will help anyone who shows up to flourish in their craft and hopefully bring more fulfillment and joy to your already frabjous life. That's what jazz does.-DM

Looking for musicians to jam with/start a project

As the title says I’m looking for local musicians to jam with or maybe start a project/band. I play rhythm and lead guitar as well as keyboards, although I am best at rhythm guitar. I don’t have any specific genres in mind, just kinda let the music flow.

Metal/metalcore band looking for drummer (NKY)

Metal/metalcore band with varying influences from nu metal to death metal looking for a drummer that is proficient with double kick and syncopated rhythms. We have a jam space and tons of music ready to go. Can send demos if interested.
We're all in our mid 30s, super chill, and just want to play shows and maybe do some recording. We have the ability to record practices and utilize a computer and interface for band practice.
Acoustic or electric drums both work fine.

mapped out local cincinnati venues to skip waiting on replies — looking for local feedback

hey everyone. a few of us are building a tool to make gig-booking less dependent on unanswered dms.

we've already mapped venues across cincinnati so you can filter by genre, stage size, and location without waiting weeks on an instagram reply.

still early and testing things out—would love any feedback from fellow local acts! i'll leave the link in the comments for anyone who wants to check the prototype out.

ADVICE What's the best way to find like-minded weirdos to make music with?

I'm no longer on Facebook but I always had terrible fortune with finding people to jam with there. I'm retooling my songs into a doomy pop punk thing, and I think I'll shop it around solo until I find my people. I've met a lot of amazing people since moving here, but nothing has really clicked. I'm still happy to know awesome people...

So how do you typically form a band? I've always known one or more people before starting a project (or I do it solo). The only exception was our annual "random band challenge" where I just ended up in a group of people and rarely knew them all.

Any tips or advice is appreciated! I think my plan for now is to keep going to shows and open mics and being present, because it's fun either way.

Anyone into playing power metal?

we’re looking for a guitarist and bass player. I’m the vocalist, and we have a guitarist, and drummer already. we’re from the Cincinnati area, which has an unfortunately small pool of folks into the genre. Dm me for details. we’ve been around a bit, trying to finish up our second record.

Just finished 10 episodes, including 6 Cincinnati musicians

Surprised to get to 10, and I've learned a ton. https://themoneygigs.com/podcast

After playing in and around this area for over 30 years (and still manning two residencies and the occasional Kroger gig), talking to other musicians in a structured and deep way has really enhanced my perspective. Enjoy.

Incidentally, if anyone would like to create an episode with me, it has become something of a nice artifact for participants to add to their websites, etc., for promotion (and SEO).

ADVICE Help! Booking DIY Tour/Out of Town Shows

Hello! I play in a jazzy noise-rock band called Partisan from Cincinnati. We’ve been playing shows for about six months now and are set to release some singles over the summer! I’ve been trying to book us out-of-town shows in the Midwest, Northeast/East Coast, and South with the hope of trying to set up a tour for this autumn/winter, but I’ve hit a roadblock. I’m having a difficult time with booking, mainly in finding good venues in other cities and getting responses from the venues we do find. We’ve been fortunate enough to have played Chicago recently and loved it. I would love to make these one-off shows in other cities a more regular but I’m struggling to get things off the ground. I would greatly appreciate help from someone with previous DIY tour booking experience for small bands. I would absolutely be willing to hire any booking agents as well if anyone knows of any reputable sources. Any advice from those who have done these kinds of tours before would also be super helpful! Thank you all for your time, if you would like to message me here or at our email [thebandpartisan@gmail.com](mailto:thebandpartisan@gmail.com) I would love to talk more!

Looking for scream vocal teacher

Hello! I am looking for someone who can maybe help me learn how to do scream vocals. I’m working on a Metalcore project and I’d like to be able to scream my own lyrics. I’m starting from scratch basically and I’m just having a hard time figuring it out on my own. We don’t have to meet up super frequently or anything. Maybe once or twice a month until I’ve got a good grasp on it. Mostly fry and false chords. Not looking to learn deep gutturals or pig squeals.

32F btw lol

Thanks!

JAM SESH Looking for drummer and vocalist.

I just moved to Cincinnati from Texas. My best friend/ roommate and I both in our mid 20s are looking to start a band, or at least have some cool people to jam with. He’s on guitar and I’m on bass. We’re fairly inexperienced, only really knowing a few full songs, I’ve only been playing bass for about a year.

Some examples of artists/ genres we’re into-

Sludge metal (Acid Bath, eyehategod, Down, crowbar)

Stoner rock (Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Kyuss)

Also bits of grunge, nu metal, punk, heavy metal.

Would be cool to meet some musicians in the area regardless of skill level. We’re still pretty intermediate, but we’d love to have a jam session and get the feel for playing with a full band instead of just us.

Also I’m a bit new to Reddit this is my first post so bear with me lol
