VII - Discussion Is this normal?
So after not play Civ VII for a year I got the itch to play again. I jumped back in at deity, got to the modern age and on turn one I could see that both Ashoka and Xerxes were building Oxford University on the wonder screen mod, so I thought it might be bugging out but nope I checked their cities and they were indeed building it.
Surely it should not be possible to be building wonders on turn one of a new age right? Or am I missing something here?

There is a triumph to unlock academics, however only one should have it. I'm not sure if diety gets free techs each age...

You can also get tech advancements for the next age from the Future Tech, that might have been the other method.

There are ways to 1-turn wonders. Mayan quarters allow it, for instance, if you have insane amounts of science. Dispersing military IPs also helps a lot.
In general, the AI now beelines Oxford heavily, so do not rely on building it.
EDIT: oh, you might be wondering how they got access to Oxford on turn 1. That's because they chose the dedication from the previous age that unlocks Academics immediately.
