I'm 100% convinced this is the case, there was a recent interview with Ion as well and he mentioned they don't want to fragment the playerbase. We'll definitely have HC toggle and people get layered together with it in the same big realm imo.
The fact HC has its own panel, tells me they are gonna be ambitious and add a lot more challenges then just HC, similar to ascension
Nooooo. I do NOT want HC players to be mixed with normal players. The whole culture of hardcore is that you are playing on a server with other hardcore players, that you know that the other players are in the same boat and look out for each other, having it mixed trivalizes this at best, and can easily lead to griefing at worst.
Well, they need to layer chat, party systems, auction house, guilds... if hardcore and normal can integrate in any capacity, it's simply not the same. The entire hardcore ecosystem is completely different to normal.
yah that's the one thing I'm personally unsure about (how would you go about making sure whomever has the toggle can't be griefed by non hc, or what you spoke about). I could be wrong just what I think given what I've read and how Ion spoke, ascension has done it, I'm sure Blizzard will find a way.
i tried to play hc tbc on the non hc servers with the hc buff you can pick up, but the community was super small and it just wasnt the same. i agree with not splitting the playerbase but it just has to be done for hc to be hype tbh. they should still give you the option of playing hc on non hc servers, but its never gonne be a replacement for actual hc servers.
thats what im thinking. doesnt make sense to have two sets of hc servers. id actually play again i think, its just that the old hc servers where my char is, is dead.
The best wow community deserves some attention. Hardcore by its nature removes like 90% of the community’s issues from RMT to min maxing to speed running the content and then complaining there is nothing to do.
It’s the most enjoyable way to play Classic. I don’t think you can make professions feel anymore impactful than by permadeath. Adding extremely powerful items locked behind professions only makes them feel like endgame chores. With hardcore, professions and class growth feels important at every single level.
I just wanna be able to transfer a hardcore toon to a PvP cluster realm. I know I can do the ole' self-imposed hardcore challenge, but it feels less immersive to just not count the 10 times you got ganked in STV by a raid team on their way to ZG lol. I get that leveling to 60 in HC would be bypassing the entire PvP system and whatnot, but I feel like leveling all the way to 60 without dying to NPCs or environmental factors is more difficult than avoiding PvP. Sure you can control one more than the other, but getting ganked in Redridge isn't quite as punishing as dying in hardcore at that same level.
i guess going through the phases again. right now when you level to 60 you get essentially boosted through MC + BWL + ZG + AQ20 and are ready for AQ40 and Naxx in 1-2 weeks depending on luck, so the actual gear and game progression is kinda over.
personally speaking, my favourite hardcore phase is straight up phase 1. Good old raw dogging dungeons in greens, no world buffs yet (well, i really wish they removed the rend capping from alliance, straight up cringe shit, alliance should never be able to have rend) other than songflower and ony when someone kills it first time, MC and Ony actually feel dangerous, fewer OP gimmicks like diamond flask, etc
my favourite phase was actually on the original hc servsers where there were no phases and you could do whatever raids you wanted. it kind of led to this natural progression thats not time gated, but more so gated by the fact that you dont want to go into harder content too early and loose players. felt really good. was always super exciting to always be prepping to the next step in progression and go do it with barely enough gear, instead of doing the same thing for a whole long phase and doing the new content with really good gear and immediately clearing it the day it droppt. killed kt there. went on to play the anniversary hc servers too but the phases were such a drag i felt like.
Same I enjoy dungeons but in HC right now the only real reason to do them is to help guildies recover after a death. Once you’re 60, it’s off to 20s with you.
Economy reset is the biggest thing. But you'll also get people racing for realm firsts again. Game is best played when everyone is starting at the same point too, world never feels more alive than release month.
I mean if you’re only subbing for classic, and don’t think you’ll play wrath then yeah I could see people unsubbing if there isn’t anything else coming
Opening ceremony and then one or both of the What's Next sessions. My guess is one will be Classic focused one will be Retail. Maybe the Deep Dive on day 2.
I’d say it’ll be the last thing they bring up at openings so maybe 11:30am, then will go from there straight into more detail on the “wow what’s next” panel to ride the hype.
I’d say the second what’s next at 2:45pm is about typical wow stuff rather than this new thing they’ve built.
Tinfoil hat on: In the schedule picture they call the section World of Warcraft: Archives but in the interactable schedule is just "Design Deep Dive".

Why would they do anything with hardcore if classic+ is supposedly coming out very soon after blizzcon? Maybe we have a longer wait for classic+ than we thought. I don’t want it to come out anytime soon anyway but I remember the majority of people in comment sections here believing classic+ will come out very soon after the blizzcon announcement.
There are a lot of hardcore players that only want to play hardcore. They’ve even said they have no interest in classic+ if there’s no hardcore mode. I’m sure it’s still a minority. But those people exist
There's a guild out there now clearing tbc raids using hardcore rule, it's certainly not unplayable but I don't know if their leveling process includes hardcore rules
Vanilla has harder leveling and easier raids / dungeons
Tbc has easier leveling and harder raids / dungeons (specifically on the tbc side)
I don't think it's unplayable, but hardcore is a niche market and I don't think Blizzard is looking to add more servers for a small market of People, especially considering it would splinter the current community
There's also the concept of griefing. Current HC has a lot of grief checks in place and it's still not perfect by any means. TBC would be a whole new ball game that would require blizzard to comb it over a million times over to solve the Outland possibilities. Blizzard ain't doing that, they can't even get rid of bots.
Tl;Dr it's not about it being completely unplayable, it's just not feasable for them to do.
leveling includes hardcore rules, because you need to have soul of iron present, afaik no ones joined on a boosted character, and I do believe a boosted character cannot activate soul of iron. Tbh heroics has not been that big of a hurdle, obviously blood furance and arcatraz stands out as a sore thumb, BF more than arca because it practically requires water ele mage and its very good to have a priest. (As a wishful thought about a real TBC HC though I would definently not mind joyous journey to 58 or something, because azeroth leveling for a second "expansion" does not bring the same joy
There’s a disclaimer at the bottom of the schedule that calls out changes to the schedule after the opening ceremony. Seems like they’re keeping things close to the chest still.
If they had anything to show for the Starcraft franchise I would be very, very surprised. I don't think dev is deep enough yet to get anything except a trailer.
1 What's Next is for Classic and 1 is for retail, that's not rocket science. But there is only 1 Deep Dive so I guess that goes to Classic since it's not time to show anything deep from the Last Titan.
Interesting. The line above is very standard for any convention cause anything could happen to ruin a plan. Having it specifically call for an update AFTER the opening ceremony is pretty telling
The 4chan one is funny because back when BFA was getting announced, the Blizzcon schedule, the name of the expansion, and some other stuff all popped up on there like 4 days before Blizzcon. It was real, and it was because some guy's company got sent the wrong promo material lol.
So it's not that it NEVER happens, it's just highly unlikely and people hold onto hope.
They wouldnt ever have a whole panel for a talk on wotlk or even tbc for classic as its been released and there is no changes or anything to talk about. Whoever believed that screenshot wouldnt be bright
They held the finals of WCS (World Championship Series) every year at Blizzcon. But Blizzard cancelled the championship in 2019 so that’s the last time there was StarCraft at Blizzcon.
I am also refraining from WoW right now, doing anything else than playing WoW because I want to fill in my hype momentul for WoW. I consider that I, at least, will have to win after this Blizzcon no matter how much doom posting have been
It's only a few days so probably best to play it safe. I'm sure there were a lot of people stuck on the dead original Hardcore servers when anniversary came out.
Suspiciously large gap after the first WoW Whats Next Panel. In 2014 there was a 1.5 hr gap after the Opening Ceremony that ended up being panels about overwatch, so I say that will be filled with a panel about an announced StarCraft Shooter.
Interesting how they seem to have essentially dropped the 'Classic' tag for anything in this schedule, whereas before they made the clear distinction between 'World of Warcraft' and 'World of Warcraft: Classic'.
100% honest I did enjoy wod for the first patch or two. The garrison stuff was meh, very chore-y. Maybe I just had a guild I liked and that put on the rose tinted glasses.

Retail doesn't have a big expansion reveal this year, they're talking about content patches. So the first deep dive will likely go to Classic this time.
I mean, they probably tell us roughly about the location of 12.2 etc (as if we didn't already know) but the highlight is certainly going to ber TLT in there.
Devs said Blizzcon will talk about 12.1.7 and 12.2, and a little bit beyond. Really doubt there will be too much TLT to show but we'll see, it'll be a nice surprise if they do.
No new extraction shooter announcement? No RTS announcements? No starcraft updates?
I find it hard to believe given everything, it must be in the opening ceremony. Otherwise i'm going to be pretty dissapoint. (Not a Wow player, reddit suggested me this post)
The traditional arrangement has been any big announcements like new games go in the opening ceremonies, and panel schedules won't spoil it until after the reveal.
If they announce an announcement before the announcement then it's not going to be an announcement is it. There's always some obfuscation on the schedule ahead of time
There is room for the Starcraft project (shooter of some kind.)
There isn't going to be any RTS from blizzard because they don't have the developers to make an RTS. All the RTS developers left the company many years ago.
Not to my memory it isn't. I've been to a couple Blizzcon and they've never had two What's Next Panels before. Unless they rename the second What's Next panel after opening ceremony.
