Annoucement Clarification About NSFW Content Creator Accounts in r/clay

Hello!

This announcement won’t be relevant for most of you, so feel free to scroll along.
However, we’re seeing an uptick in NSFW accounts posting here, so this message is for the few it applies to.

If you are an NSFW content creator or SW promoting on Reddit, please read the following:

r/clay is a SFW subreddit.
Our community includes members aged 13 and up, and we want everyone to feel comfortable browsing profiles to see more pottery without unexpectedly encountering nudity.

While we respect the hustle, we kindly but firmly ask that you create a separate account for SFW content. Any pottery-related posts coming from an NSFW content creator profile will be automatically filtered and removed.

If you want to participate, just use a separate SFW account! You are absolutely welcome here.

Keep in mind that even with good intentions, posting here from an NSFW account often comes across as karma farming or subtly seeking new clients/buyers. Something that is generally frowned upon across Reddit.

Thank you for keeping our community welcoming and safe for all ages.

---

To clarify a bit more: having a NSFW profile is completely fine. You can get labeled as NSFW the moment you participate in certain subreddits. Here is how you can check if your profile is marked NSFW.

However, we draw a clear line when accounts create or promote explicit NSFW/pornographic content. That’s when we ask you to keep your SFW and NSFW activity separate.

If you have questions, feel free to modmail us.

You really have to wrestle with all the shrinking and the uneven application... But they turned out cute though.

Questions Which type of clay should I use to make a bobblehead?

I'm planning to gift someone a handmade bobblehead figurine for their birthday. Its supposed to be a cartoon character that's an inside joke. Its not a highly detailed character, and mainly made up of simple shapes. What type of clay should I use to make this? Is air-drying clay good enough for my purpose? I've heard it can be brittle and tend to crack after a while, which wouldn't be ideal. I'm a relative beginner with clay, so I have limited resources.

Please suggest some good, budget-friendly options.

I’ve been making these little clay animals lately and thought it’d be fun to give them their own little story. 😄

Here’s the short video if you want to see what they get up to: https://youtube.com/shorts/jHJCpz01s2w?feature=share

Curious what you guys think! I’d love to hear your thoughts! 😊

Polymer-Clay Josie

“Josie”, 11”H x 14”W (28cm H x 35.5cm W), Polymer clay on Gator board, August 2026, (Sold Commission)

I just completed a new piece called "Josie," an 11-by-14 work featuring a small, fluffy dog brought to life through polymer-based clay on board. The tactile surface invites you to notice the subtle variations in the soft white fur, flecked with light brown and gray, while the dog’s curious gaze draws you in gently. Behind Josie, an abstract, swirling pattern in muted tones creates a quiet backdrop that contrasts with the detailed texture of the figure, giving the piece a delicate balance between presence and stillness. This commission allowed me to explore the expressive qualities of polymer clay, layering texture to build warmth and a subtle sense of playfulness within the composition.

I always have little things lying around on my desk, so I made this octopus tray with air dry clay to give them a home.

Now I have a place for all those tiny things that never seem to have one. :)

What do you think of it? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Any painting tips are appreciated!!

She's going to be brown with a pale green tummy, a little red book with gold BFG lettering, red rosy cheeks and green dots. I am tempted to try and blend green into the tips of her toes.

Air-Dry Clay Recommended sealer

I’m a total beginner working with clay. I want to make a palette to use with paint (watercolour, gouache and acrylic). What is the best thing I can use to seal it as I will be using it with water based paints and also cleaning it with water. I haven’t got a massive budget at the moment and ideally need to be able to order it online. Thank you ☺️
