Other GPT 5.6 in Claude Code

Have you tried using your OpenAI sub inside of Claude Code? I've been using Luna 5.6 (max) this morning in CC and it's more token-hungry but the resulting code is better.

cache hits in claude code are MUCH lower than in almost any other harness. burns more tokens AND caches worse but the harness is indeed better than codex yeah

Under /usage it's reading ~1 input for every ~20+ cache input tokens for me. Idk if the numbers shown are accurate or just an estimate though...

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using GPT inside CC or vice-versa and what your experience was like.

I just asked codex to set it up for me. It ended up using Homebrew's (on Mac) cliproxyapi library to set it up.

T3 Theo does this routinely. He has put up videos on how he does it.

I just told Codex to set it up for me. It initially said it couldn't but after some convincing it set it up.

The problem is both of them don't allow non native models in their picker. Well Claude does but only one.

So you have to launch it with a profile or similar, but if you change models midway through the session you can't really go back. Unless you strictly use them as subagent models.

As for the experience - and this is very subjective give - but you can feel something is off.

Running them in a harness like OpenCode or Pi makes more sense if you want them together, assuming your setup allows you to get Claude running in OpenCode (via another provider that's not Anthropic).

So anyway - that's my 2c. If I have to use a special cli command to get the model running in the harness I may just as well use the right harness for it.

EDIT: I haven't messed around with Claude Code for a good couple of months so if there was an update regarding the model picker I'd love to know.

Yes. Fable is a great orchestrator that keeps sol in check. On it's own I always have scope creep that causes overengineering in codex.

Oh My Pi > CC imo. And still great with cache hit rate
