Reminder: Shameless, no-value-added self-promo is the stale Folgers coffee of this sub. Yuck.
Hey everyone. We've seen a slight uptick in spam and shameless self-promo posts in recent weeks. Probably because this sub is full of badass folks contributing interesting things -- keep it up!
If you'd like to mention your brand for some reason, claim it as yours -- don't hide it -- but add value to the community first. This isn't a place for promotion, but naturally our brand names come up. No biggy -- just make sure it contributes to the conversation, not distracts from it.
As the rules state...
Flaunt your wares? Straight to jail.
Link to your promo video? Straight to jail.
Pretend to not own the company? Straight to jail.
Adding value to the conversation while linking to your own shit? Let the votes decide.

Do you properly cup every roast, or do you usually just drink it and decide if it’s better/worse?

Desired coffee / roast levels by espresso vendors?
I do not drink espresso yet most of my potential customers (shops, sandwich shops, etc) offer coffee made with espresso machines so I am trying to anticipate what type of coffee they would be looking for so I can roast up some samples for marketing to them. I am thinking that most are looking for dark, traditional, Italian-like coffees so a medium roasted Ethiopian is probably not in their interest. Just launching my business and looking opinions on how to plan.

I’d love to work roasters on a branding project ☕️

My personal collection of 298 coffee bags from 143 roasters, scanned, organised and mapped.
gallery318 bags, 298 coffees, going back eight years. I scanned each one and extracted all the information.
I really didn't expect to buy a scanner in 2026 but it was mostly worth it for the consistent lighting even though some scans were blurry. The whole process was a trip down memory lane and gave me a renewed appreciation for the work that goes into the final product. From the remote farms, to the roasters and designers who make the unique art (featured in the gallery section) that goes on the bag.
I already knew that I really liked Ethiopian beans but seeing data on map with all the subregions/villages within the country gave me a new appreciation for the small communities which produce the beans.
That's really all this is. A record of the work other people did before it got to me. Please have a look: multipleorigin.com

Anyone else feel the same
Bought this guide from always kind co wanting to get more information on tap carts since it seems to be hard to find any solid answers online. It was $127 which is already a huge purchase in a start up. I was disappointed to see it was very basic information with no real “insider info” and the “award winning” recipes were the 5 most basic recipe without even brand recommendations. Such as salted caramel = caramel, sprinkle of salt, brew and milk. Her tap carts video can be found on YouTube for free. I felt like the information was not worth the $127 and felt scammed :( I don’t want to bash on other creators at all. I was just hoping to get a lot more information instead of a “you need to figure it out yourself” answer for $127. I just wanted to warn others and see if anyone else felt the same or am I just crazy? After purchasing the guide I found in the comments someone else who made a comment stating they felt the same way I did in a respectful way and she made 2 videos bashing them and having her friends bash them in the comments. https://imgur.com/a/q8yLsBu

300 € Coffee-machine as a gift
Hey,
sorry in advance, I have no clue on this topic, since I dont drink coffee.
I want to gift my mother a nicer coffee machine since it really tastes aweful. Is there anything good at or about the 300 € mark ?
Unfortunately I can't really raise my budget since I am a student.
Is a grinder + Coffee machine a good combo at this price or is it more sensible to buy pre-grinded beans ? Is a mokka good, or is there a better option ? I am kinda overwhelmed tbch....
The issue is that the space on the kitchen counter is limited, so the machine / equipment needs to be relatively narrow.
Thank you so much in advance

Popper is a Coffee Roaster
I’ve been having some problems with my popper. I just started on my roasting journey a few weeks ago, but I’ve been having some problems and could use some advice.
I have been taking the wattage and am pulling around 970 watts at heat level 3. However, I am never hearing a definitive first crack with the popper at an 80g dosage. This isn't consistent with many of the guides I found on their website. Is there a fix for this? am I doing something wrong? Do I have a defective heating element?
I attached a picture of an 80g dose after 30 minutes of roasting at heat level 3 for 22 minutes and then heat level 6 for 5.

Should I just use a pan
I want to start roasting but all the gear is lowkey crazy expensive. Should I just use my old reliable cast iron or should i invest in a good coffee roaster. Thank you and sorry for my ignorance!!!!

Watching the beans tumble around during the roast is such a satisfying sight

Coffee cart manufacturers ( LA County)
Hey! So I’m looking into starting a small coffee cart business, I’ve looked into what’s required with the county as far as permits & all that fun stuff but my question is since I am planning on building my cart from scratch, does anyone know of any good coffee cart manufacturers in LA that work well with meeting the requirements? I live in the city of Inglewood & although I can google manufactures there’s just soo many. Anybody recommend or know of any good ones? Or what should I do? This is all new to me & im learning as I go so if anyone out there has any suggestions or advice in this avenue I’d appreciate it 🙏🏾 im also looking into commissary’s so if you know anything I could really use your help!

Opinion please
I often get requests for 'light' coffee. I am working on a blend for this. Can I call it Blond? Like:
XYZ - a Blond Roast
Or is that a copyright infringement with SBucks?
