Show and Tell Recent pickup

Drove 2 hours to pick this up, I just had to have it. Really want to keep this the way it is but also try and break them out. Any advice?

Me? I send it to get slabbed

u/Grizmoh 11h ago

There’s always segs!

Wait, since nobody does it (yet), this is your chance to become the only toilet-coin grading service.

you know how they always so Don't Clean It?

This, I think it's OK to clean it.

How much did you pay for it?

BRO, TAKE A SHITLOAD OF AWARDS.

64

u/Healthy-Structure-96 16h ago

I paid $50 for it.

u/East-Law-9979 14h ago

Are you shitting me?

That’s what the worm said to the robin.

29

u/JimStencil 15h ago

An absolute steal.

3

u/EMandAY 5h ago

You meant “an absolute stool right”….. I’ll
show myself out.

15

u/International_Dog817 15h ago

Wow. Unless the coins are fake (and they look fine, albeit overly cleaned) they're way more in silver value.

5

u/Free-Audience-377 13h ago

No way you can get coins out without destroying them

18

u/Scrumpuddle 13h ago

Sure you can. Gonna need a big ass tub of acetone

16

u/Dirtheavy 12h ago

Sure you can. Especially if you're just getting them out of there for melt value and not numismatic value.

3

u/International_Dog817 13h ago

I'm not suggesting he remove the coins from it, just surprised that he got it for way below the silver melt value.

2

u/Odd_Brief_2975 10h ago

I'm curious as to what the total melt value would be with all the coins removed, I think one of those that can be seen is for 69' so not sure if all then contain silver or not.

1

u/stf29 10h ago

I see a ‘59, not a ‘69, but even if it was a ‘69, there’s so many visible silver dates just in the photo to be well over $50 in melt. Crazy good deal!!!

1

u/Bulacano 10h ago

Granted.

6

u/MrBoughtwithThoughts 15h ago

Hoping you didnt pay a shit ton

1

u/Leaky_Asshole 5h ago

I think I would skip the acetone dip on this one

67

u/iShitSkittles 16h ago

I wouldn't know whether to take a dump or make a wish...

13

u/S_Wow_Titty_Bang 15h ago

Can't we have both?

3

u/SPACEFUNK 15h ago

4

u/DiSleXik2501 12h ago

So you poop pennies, so what? Eat the pennies Billy.

19

u/andsoonandso 16h ago

no reason not to install it, might as well get a little use out of it

14

u/MissConception1 16h ago

Its so weird and in good condition, keep it like that!

12

u/PorkRinds416 15h ago

My grandpa was 93 when he died and he gave me a portion of his coin collection. I wish he was still alive, Id love to have gotten him one of these.

5

u/Hammergear 15h ago

That's really cool that he gave you some of his coins. Grandpa's are special

20

u/716bunnyma 16h ago

Family heirloom piece for sure. Why try to break them out unless it’s an emergency? Coolest rainy day find I’ve ever seen

2

u/Abuck59 13h ago

To break them out correctly takes time , how much time will you have in an emergency?

9

u/PM_your_Nopales 16h ago

This is... fascinating. I would also drive 2 hours to get this. It's so odd, but so perfect

8

u/dankhimself 15h ago

Haha, a guy that I worked with snatched one of these out of a dumpster on a demolition job and spent a hour breaking it up with a hammer.

I have a couple Ikes that still have little pieces of that acrylic stuff on them.

8

u/Pococurante228 16h ago

This is the second time I’ve seen one of these

10

u/Trans_Admin 15h ago

u say this is #2?

3

u/Healthy-Structure-96 16h ago

I’ve seen a couple posted but never thought I’d get to have one for myself

3

u/Pococurante228 15h ago

Nice find man

1

u/Legitimate_Elk6306 14h ago

Ya i have seen 1 of them.on here before I would love to get 1 and would 1p0% keep it as is

4

u/ZippyWoodchuck 16h ago

My in-laws have one of these at their house. They make it a point to show it to anybody who comes to the house for the first time.

1

u/bionic_knees 2h ago

My sister in law has 3 of these that she inherited from her grandma.

3

u/Mister_Goldenfold 15h ago

Razzle Dazzle of a necklace

4

u/Purple-Swim-837 15h ago

I’d keep it as is and put it on my toilet. It’s just too cool. lol

3

u/ThePastyWhite 14h ago

If you're interested in getting rid of that... I'm a chemist and can get those out without completely destroying them.

1

u/Out_of_my_mind_1976 7h ago

Please elaborate on the recommenced method.

1

u/ThePastyWhite 4h ago

I would cut them down into sections. Trim away excess material until I got pretty close. Then solve the remaining epoxy in solution.

Again, I'm a chemist. I have a degree and a lab and everything.

It's not something I would suggest a layperson attempt.

Redefining "Pissing Away Your money"

3

u/Responsible-Speed625 15h ago

Something that large trying to break them out will be a toxic nightmare. I recently freed up three nickels in a letter opener. The process is slow and messy. Acetone is effective but not fun.

3

u/Moose1293 15h ago

Begging your pardon here sir, but this is the wildest thing I’ve ever seen on this sub

3

u/Electrical-System-78 14h ago

My LCS actually has one of these hanging on their wall lol. Said they got it at an estate sale. It’s so random.

3

u/new2bay 14h ago

In all seriousness, getting the coins out of this thing would be way more trouble than it’s worth.

3

u/bluexcal1000 14h ago

In another post awhile back, they were foil...

5

u/Healthy-Structure-96 14h ago

I tried to find that one, and from just a close look they all look pretty real. Could still be fooling me pretty well. I figured some of them toning was a good sign of real coins.

2

u/bluexcal1000 13h ago

It could depend on age...
Typically features a laminated or real dollar bill and embedded coins (sometimes plastic replicas, though vintage or custom versions feature actual U.S. currency or silver coins

3

u/batexNC 13h ago

I found one similar to that at Goodwill for $5.00 about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, mine was made in 1976 so has a lot of bicentennial half dollars and quarters. There is a peace dollar and lots of buffalo nickels, which are cool.

1

u/Wh1teCherry 33m ago

And a couple liberty V!

3

u/Financial_Lab4827 13h ago

Update us when you do your first drop off on your new pick up

3

u/Free-Audience-377 13h ago

Have fun trying to get them out. Will make the 2 hour travel time seem like child’s play

3

u/Old-Fisherman-8280 15h ago

Re-Cent pickup

4

u/awsum43 15h ago

There is not enough Lysol in Des Moines to make me want to touch that thing

5

u/Heselwood 16h ago

People 🙄

2

u/Bk_Punisher 15h ago

Anyone add the coins up?

2

u/Bladefanatic 15h ago

Excellent score!

2

u/SpotmaticSP 15h ago

Pecunia non olet.

2

u/Miserable_Risk 15h ago

Are all the coins legit?

2

u/Blusucre00 15h ago

I saw these with pennies in the late ‘70s at a flea market near me.

2

u/trent_diamond 15h ago

pretty sure i saw this on insane fb marketplace sub

2

u/Tiktokbadsupport 15h ago

are any of them silver

2

u/paid-program 14h ago

There was of these a while back on this sub but was all Morgan’s

2

u/Specialist_Ad180 14h ago

As close to a silver shitter as you're probably ever going to see.

2

u/Ok_Arrival_5005 14h ago

I would keep it hung up in your living quarters

2

u/Puppiessssss 13h ago

Looks nice enough to eat off of…

2

u/Safe-Ad1933 13h ago

Please tell me those are fake coins.

2

u/Meprobamate 13h ago

The plan to keep it the way it is and the plan to break the coins out are antithetical to each other. It won’t be possible.

2

u/Fun_Individual3252 11h ago

I have one that’s almost identical except it’s all 1964 coins. It’s been installed on a toilet in my house continually for close to 20 years now. Great conversation piece for sure

2

u/BladricksUncle 10h ago

You should keep as is.

2

u/New_Double5184 8h ago

“Excuse me, I must use my private quarters real quick”

2

u/PlaceNo9666 7h ago

This will change how you think about the bathroom.

2

u/IntentionlGameDesign 7h ago

BUT WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE CLEAR!?!?

1

u/Few-Buddy-1122 5h ago

So you can see the quarters. Do you really need that explained?

2

u/PhilinNY718 6h ago

Just enjoy it and hand it down to the kids when its time.

2

u/AwKmedia 6h ago

Get a heat gun, some leather gloves, a pick of some kind, and some patience.

2

u/Professional-Mix-562 5h ago

Holy crap, I’d leave them in there…. Some of these have fake coins inside them. I’ve seen many items (paper weights, cups and plates for example) get broken out to realize it’s a well made replica made with a foil over a weighted center. If you do decide to break it open it’ll be obvious what they are, the style of the hinge implies it’s an older piece so there is a solid chance they are genuine. If you do decide to break into it start with the item you’d be ok not having if they aren’t legit, personally I’d break open the lid and leave the seat in tact until I could confirm the coins were solid. Either way it’s an awesome find that may or may not be worth a buttload

4

u/Mountain_Cobbler_381 16h ago

Thats actually hideous😆🤣. Really strange that someone would make something like this.

2

u/AlarmingDisease 16h ago

WTF, why do I need one now

2

u/Pgh_dad_type 15h ago

Was at a convenience store and someone glued coins to the seat lol

1

u/Methanator 15h ago

please rescue these coins (carefully!) from this absolute monstrosity

1

u/sewcorellian 13h ago

Hahaha my husband had one just like this, sold it probably five years ago? It was his dad's, long named it as the weirdest thing in his collection. 😅

1

u/kankerstokjes 13h ago

Shitload of coins.

1

u/Taint__Paint 13h ago

I’d put that on my toilet and every time I need to poo, I’ll say I’m going to make a deposit at the tank bank.

1

u/braisedporkcowboy 12h ago

Well thats, uh, something

1

u/Working_Situation692 12h ago

This is so much cooler than the paperweight I got last week.

1

u/Aquasman 12h ago

What in the “Y2K clear aesthetic” is this?

1

u/Flashy_Chocolate3984 11h ago

What does the wife think?

1

u/Decent_Birthday358 11h ago

Rule of thumb is to not clean them....

1

u/YahooFlop 11h ago

Is this what they mean by putting your money where your mouth is?

1

u/Alreadymystar 7h ago

Why is your mouth on a toilet seat?

1

u/TheJackDude 9h ago

I have the same toilet seat!

1

u/sucky_sucky_5bucky 8h ago

I'd be chipping away through that plastic personally

1

u/Cumulohumulous 8h ago

Those Lucite toilet seats were kinda popular in the 1970s. My mom had the one with seashells...

1

u/Plenty_Ad_8655 7h ago

Worth it.

1

u/BNLboy 7h ago

My wife just wouldn't understand

1

u/amishdave1 7h ago

I saw one of these on whatnot on Pickerdude2. hard to believe several were made lol

1

u/TheKeeperoftheYarn 7h ago

My grandmother used to have one of these toilet seats when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's. The one she had seemed like it had a lot more coins in it and there was a $5 bill in the middle of the lid. It was on the toilet in my grandparents upstairs bathroom. I'm not sure where exactly it came from but she mentioned that my grandfather had found it somewhere while he was in the Navy and he paid $12 for it in 1967.

1

u/ProudAmerican632 6h ago

Nice pick up.

Nothing like taking a dump on a couple hundred dollars worth of silver toilet seat.

1

u/Oatmeallemonparty 6h ago

Don't break it. Install it, let it be the throne it was born to be.

1

u/DBfan187 5h ago

Don't piss your money away.

1

u/-58259 5h ago

What you pay for it?

1

u/CAREERxCRIMINAL 5h ago

we get it, you can poop on a dime while others need their phones and 37 minutes!

1

u/SquashPrudent1435 5h ago

I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

1

u/Super_Fa_Q 4h ago

My grandparents had a whole toilet like this with old pennies!

1

u/Affectionate-Pie8362 3h ago

and it's in mint condition

1

u/Artsyeye1 3h ago

Looks like some coins will get some proper toning. The toning ass tax will really stink for buyers! 🤣

1

u/Ok_Introduction_6105 2h ago

holy Shite! i have seen these posted as memes before but this is the first one that i have seen up close. Nice score. I would probably not use it but If i did it would 100% have to have LED lights mounted to it for a night litght. like this

1

u/Purple-Medium-8729 17m ago

Sit on it for a while, might be worth more later.

1

u/Slim_Shady_666 15h ago

What an abomination, so gross.

1

u/Public_Fucking_Media 15h ago

Holy **** (literally) lmao.

I'd cut it apart as much as possible with a Dremel and dissolve it in acetone

1

u/Energy_Turtle 13h ago

Put it on a chain and wear it.
