Shiloh's Bar and Grill in Columbia is celebrating its final game-day season, according to a staff member and social media post.
The business announced its final game-day season on Facebook Tuesday morning, leading customers to show their shock in the comments section. 
"Last? Ugh, this town is going in the gutter," one commenter wrote.
An employee confirmed that the building has been sold, but he did not know what they were doing with it.

He was also unsure about a closing date or transition details.
The bar and grill was once the historic Katy Station, serving university students traveling along the MKT Trail in the 1900s, according to its website.

It now brings loyal regulars and fresh college crowds, especially around game days.

The Central Missouri Humane Society is now in charge of finding adoptive homes for more than 70 barnyard animals.
The animals include 24 sheep, goats and lambs, plus 45 chickens and two turkeys, all ranging in age.
The large impoundment case involved Animal Control, which placed the animals in the care of the Humane Society.

With the impoundment case concluded, the Humane Society is now in charge of finding the farm animals new homes.
As staff starts the adoption process, Humane Society Executive Director Julie Aber said she was looking forward to finding safe homes for the animals.

“We are grateful that we were able to assist Columbia/Boone County Animal Control throughout this case,” Aber said in a news release. “Now, we get to focus on what comes next. These animals deserve a bright future, and we are excited to welcome potential adopters to the shelter to meet them and help us find the right homes.”
“Large impoundment cases like this are heartbreaking, and caring for so many animals at once requires a tremendous amount of coordination and resources,” she added.

As of Aug. 31, the Humane Society has started accepting adoption applications, but due to excessive interest in the farm animals, the society has asked that those interested in adoption of goats or sheep apply in person.
Since the Humane Society is not a livestock facility and has minimal experience with housing farm animals, anyone who wants to adopt the animals must be able to provide immediate supplies, food, transportation and veterinary care.

Anyone who wants to adopt will also be responsible for the species’ appropriate housing, fencing, space and resources to accommodate the animals’ long-term needs and well-being.
The adoption process is different for the farm animals than the typical Humane Society process due to the large quantity and various species.
“We want each of these animals to find loving homes where they will be well cared for,” Aber said. “We know there are people throughout our community and surrounding areas who have the experience and space to give them that opportunity.”

So, the electricity was out for approximately 2800 Columbians a good portion of the afternoon yesterday. KOMU reported:

The city of Columbia posted on X around 4:21 p.m. that an electrical outage in west Columbia had left roughly 2,600 customers without power. As of 5:21 p.m., that number had increased to 2,806 customers. 

By 5:47 p.m., officials said only 114 customers were without power. The city's power outage map showed power had been restored for all customers as of 6:11 p.m. 

My residence was impacted. I did not notice . . . at all. Today was really hot. I did not notice at all. I did not even sweat. I had sufficient computer battery and cable. The sun was up and I had light. That is all. No complaint. No ranting. Nothing. I am offended to not have a complaint. /s.

As you all probably know the University is all about investing into football and has been hesitant (to say the least) to invest in the public and the people that work the games, campus at large and the hospital. University and MU Healthcare workers will be holding a rally when we know the Board of Curators will be on campus, the first football game of the year. We have to hold the Board of Curators and admin accountable to the community. Boone Electric Cooperative will soon vote on an amendment that would alter the petition requirements for board of directors candidates.

Boone Electric members are encouraged to vote at the group’s meeting on Sept. 10 on the measure, which would shorten time and increase required petition candidate signatures.

Boone Electric’s Amendment 3 proposes bylaw changes that would shorten the original 90 days for the board to nominate the nominating committee to 60 days.

This also means that the nominating committee will have to appoint the candidates 30 days earlier. If passed, candidates running by petition will have 30 days from the date of their first supporter to gather the remaining 400 signatures.

Currently, there is no time limit for candidates to gather signatures.
The amount of signatures from co-op members is also being raised, from 0.25% to 1% of members. Each signature also requires a name, phone number, address, member number and date.

Laura Baker, member services manager at Boone Electric, said current regulations mandate that 0.25% of 28,000 must sign a petition. That equates to roughly 70 members, she added.

“Because it’s been that way for so long and our membership has gotten to be so much more, our board thinks it’s better to have more signatures (from co-op members) if you’re running by petition.” Baker said.

Pushback from members
Some members argue that this is anti-democratic and makes it harder for everyday member-owners to qualify as candidates.

One of these critics is state Rep. Gregg Bush, D-Columbia, who shared the importance of democracy in a co-op.

“A cooperative is to serve the members of the cooperative, right?” Bush said. “I can’t get behind increasing barriers for people to be involved.”

Bush also said that it was a privilege to have a local utility run in a democratic fashion.
The board ultimately votes on things like electric rates, policies and finances.
Another party opposed to the changes is Renew Missouri, a statewide nonprofit utility watchdog headquartered in Boone County.

“In the state right now, everyone is talking about data centers and have valid concerns of those,” said Tyler Travers, Renew Missouri’s policy director. “If there is ever going to be a data center that hooks up to Boone Electric, their board of directors is going to be approving that.”
Travers said Boone County prides itself in the participation of residents and that it would be “very unfortunate for Boone Electric to be the most restrictive cooperative in the entire state.”

“You might imagine it happening somewhere else, but it happening here would be extremely disappointing,” Travers said.
Travers is calling on co-op members to vote no on the proposal.
Voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 10, via drive-thru, or in person from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Boone Electric’s headquarters, 1413 Rangeline Road. All members voting will receive a $20 utility bill credit.

Hey there, I (21M) recently graduated, and I got a job in town. Now that I’m out of the Mizzou social infrastructure, I want to find some stuff to say social and active.

I want to play some tennis, where/how could I go about doing that? I’d love to join a league. I’m open to anything that would get me hitting it around though.

I’ve played with friends back home, I’m ok, I’d guess I’m about a 3.0 NTRP but I’m unsure.

I am writing today to express my hope that you encourage the city council to move forward with ending the contract with Flock as soon as possible, not replacing one system with another (such as Axon, Vigilant Solutions, Genetec, PlateSmart, Innova Systems, Rekor, ELSAG, Perceptics, or Jenoptik), and immediately removing all ALPR cameras from Columbia. I have lived in Columbia nearly my entire life and am a homeowner in Ward 5, near the Providence Rd/Green Meadows Rd intersection. I voted for you over Don Waterman specifically because he voted for the contract with Flock in 2024, without regard for the opinions of his constituents nor what is allowed under the Fourth Amendment.

It is my strong belief that mass surveillance in any form should not exist. The indiscriminate, continuous collection and retention of location data on every single driver, regardless of suspicion is both reckless and incredibly dangerous. This indiscriminate collection and retention is precisely why ALPR-fed surveillance systems can be easily weaponized against immigrants, political dissidents, and other targeted communities as ICE and other federal agencies escalate their assault on civil liberties, or on women seeking reproductive care as we've unfortunately seen reporting on. Further, we continue to see instances nationwide of police officers misusing this technology for their own often immoral purposes.

As much as Flock and other ALPR companies would like to convince public opinion that these issues can all be "configured" against, the actual risk is the mass surveillance itself, not the misuse of it. Each day these cameras remain active, they collect highly sensitive data that is being used to violate our rights. Please act now.
