Not OP but the absolute worst place ever was the Safeway in Denver. I got a service call for the drain in the deli being clogged. I decided to unplug it with some compressed nitrogen to just push the blockage through. Until I looked at the drain and saw that it wasn't clogged, the sewage drain was backed up into it and there were human turds floating in the deli.
Living in Denver and having been to that Safeway...yeah, can attest to that. Or the one in IIRC Aurora before it closed down (or was it the Englewood one?) was equally problematic. My roommate worked at the Englewood one before unionisation was firing up, and management decided to close the store down permanently. Something tells me that it's a management issue to just... neglect its hygiene
Aircraft carrier bathroom. The floor is of this pool material that traps bacteria, plagues and all sorts of other nasties, there are only 2 entire drains not including the toilets, sinks and showers, and you get to discover the absolute worst hygiene in people, not to mention that it's the US Navy, so our only way of approved cleaning is Simple Green and degreaser instead of industrial bleach like it deserves.
Also, some of them are negatively pressured for some ungodly reason, so when the airtight doors get shut, Mount Vetshitvius erupts inundated any poor soul trapped in there with the worst splash pad known in existence. And yes, the doors are all airtight around the bathrooms.
Yeah, it was one of two ways in which, as long as we were in port, we got to go home for the rest of the day. Mostly because it was a guarantee that nobody would willingly endure the sort of punishment.
Because we were all a part of Reactor Department, we would of course tell the poor soul to get wrecked before sending him on his way to contemplate life decisions.
Sooo nasty. I went to a festival with some friends one time and a lady I went with came out of one and said "they are surprisingly clean! Could actually sit down." I just gave her the most horrified look. 😂
I... I don't know how people can just do that. I get self conscious about how I would be affecting others, even putting myself aside and being space conscious because my wheelchair is bulkier than a typical frame of a body standing up. I maintain hygiene when being out and about, use clean clothes, etc
The theater I went to had a pre-ad that told people to keep there shoes on. The thought to take my shoes off in a theater never crossed my mind but it had to happen enough as it was a newer thing they added.
When me and my friend went to see Backrooms there was a group of teenagers a couple rows behind us who threw popcorn at our heads and shouted through the whole movie. Genuinely cannot fucking stand people like that. Completely ruined the experience of seeing a movie I had waited years for, I had been a fan of the director since his very first Backrooms short. Such a miserable experience.
Those are all outside. If you wore shoes to the indoor thing your feet now smell, leave them on. If you wore sandals and wanna put your bare feet on top of the sandals for some reason then yeah sure whatever.
The phone would bother me way more than the feet. I mean barefoot is super gross for them, but it doesn't really affect me any more than if they were wearing sandals/flip flops.
Ok but then the problem is the smell, not the feet. I guess it's easier to draw that than someone with bad BO, but it's weird that comments are often horrified by bare feet but when they're in sandals it's suddenly fine.
Oh I agree entirely, if I see a phone out during a movie I am automatically taken out of the experience. I wish I wasnt so cowardly and could shame them
I briefly worked in a theater so now I am very comfortable walking up to someone mid movie and asking them to turn off their phone. I’ve had to do it at every single movie I’ve got to this year which is crazy that people are paying to not even watch the movie.
The guy sat next to me during the Odyssey kept intermittently taking his phone out. The first time I forgave, since it looked like he was checking a text message then quickly put it away.
Okay, slightly annoying but not the worst. Then later he takes his phone out again for longer, I think he was looking at social media. That was annoying.
I'm not great at confrontation, but I was psyching myself up to talk to him. Then he suddenly put it away again.
Then he took it out for a third time! By then I was so annoyed at this guy, I ignored my fears and told him to please put his phone away.
Thankfully he did and he didn't take it out again. But seriously! Why go to the cinema at all? If the films boring you, just leave!
It just boggles my mind that he needed someone to tell him, right? Ah well, maybe I'll get the courage from stories like this next time some idiot does the same next to me at the movies
I've been to a theater where someone barefoot propped their disgusting ass dogs up onto the railing ahead of them, against the head of the seat in front. It was horrendous.
Does not matter if someone is actually in the seat ahead, don't prop your feet up in a movie theater. Its a public space you're sharing with other people.
I rarely go to the cinema so it's a real treat when I do, but had my viewing of The Substance almost totally ruined by going to the loudest most childish screening ever. People laughed every time there were boobs on the screen. Every. Time.
AITA for wanting parents to be more on top of keeping their kids quiet too? I swear, anything even remotely percieved as kid-friendly is a nightmare cause they just CANNOT ever shut up.
This very thing actually happened to me when I was watching the new Spider-Man.
Dude was wearing sandals and decided to kick them off, which is kinda ok since he effectively already had his dogs out. but then... THE MOTHERFUCKER crossed his foot over his perched up knee so his foot was right up near my face.
Thank God he put it down immediately once I gave him the eye.
Same thing with Gyms, i legit saw a dude rubbing protein powder on his arms and rub it in like lotion before getting off the machine, without cleaning it up
I honestly couldn't tell you, everyday i see dudes doing more insane shit, like "bro i'm just trying to get in shape, why tf i 3 dudes grunting like gorillas, 5 people hogging machines for a 10 second tiktok, and that one musty MF who thinks axe bodyspray is a substitute for bathing?"
I've seen some dumb shit at a couple of the old the gyms I used to go to, this one just truly baffles me lol. Thankfully I go to a smaller quieter gym nowadays and they are really good about keeping the weird gymbros and people that just want to film themselves out.

I (mostly) am able to avoid this by either hitting the Sunday afternoon screenings or the LATE Saturday night ones. Less crowds, and the crowds are... less bad.
Not to mention the people who dump their food on the ground thinking they are giving the workers there something to work for. Such people shouldnt be allowed outside or if they are, forced to work at movie theaters cleaning up.
I’m in downtown Chicago and the last year had actually seen some of the BEST theater etiquette I’ve ever seen. Y’all clearly never had to deal with working in a theater in the late 90s
Was at a screening of the new Spider-Man film last week. Halfway through, the guy in front of me turned on his phone torch so he could open his tin of Coke, rearrange his snacks and talk to his (presumably) girlfriend. Took him about 5 mins to switch it off. Genuinely wanted to throw my popcorn at him, but then remembered it cost £10.
I mean you gotta tell people sometime like “Hey your feet are ruining my movie-going experience and I don’t mean to make you feel bad but you should probably get that shit checked out by a podiatrist or some type of doctor.”
I’ve gotten more willing to tell people off at the theater for stuff like this. I love to go to the movies. I pay to go to movies. And I won’t put up with your antisocial freak behavior if you pull stuff like this lmao.
I go to the movies maybe once a year if that. Last time a few months ago a dude a couple rows in front of me was commenting on stuff constantly, vaping and just being annoying in general. I about got up and beat him up

I was unluckily seated next to a woman... who I can't fathom smelled the way she did. I swear the porncorn combined with whatever was going on inside her mouth to make an unholy union.

I usually only go to movies when I know the theater will be mostly empty. But last weekend I went to see Coyote vs Acme (great movie btw). I got good tickets a week ahead of time. Second row, right in the middle. In line for popcorn, a lady asked me if I wanted tickets because she had 2 extra. No idea if she was selling or giving away. I didn’t ask because I already had tickets. So I get in the theater, and she and some guy are in my seats, leaving the two on the end of the row empty. I politely told them those were my seats, no big deal, easy mistake. And they just sat there looking confused for a few seconds and then got up real slowly, looking like I was the one inconveniencing them.
For real. We went to see The Odyssey in IMAX (it was laser or digital or whatever, not 70mm, unfortunately), and the theater itself was run like a TJ Maxx holding a going out of business sale. The ticket booths were being used for storage, so you had to get tickets (bought online) at a "kiosk." I thought there'd be touch screens where I'd put in my card or whatever, but, no, it was a guy standing outside of a booth that was on the same wall as the doors, so you couldn't see it when you came in; I had to ask a cop where it was. The snack bar attendants were also the ticket sales, so the line for snacks was huge and slow.
There was a rope line that made it difficult to get to the kiosk to get the tickets, and it wasn't clear if we were in once I got the tickets and we got snacks, so we had to wait in the line to get back in after getting snacks. Just a jumbled mess. It was run down, most of the machines in the arcade area were either broken or just weird games to get junk.
I don't know. It was like how a theater would work in a fever dream. It just sucked. I had relatively high expectations for an imax for some reason.
This is one of the reasons I don't go to movies much anymore. For 2 people with a couple of snacks and a drink, it's 70 dollars for a basic movie theater. Then everyone is on the phone, their young kids are fussing in an R movie at 10pm, people are taking tiktoks, answering the phone, on face time, talking to their friends. Even if we splurge for the nicer theaters with recliners or daybeds and full bar/food menu at ~150+ pp, it's still interrupted by bs.
A few years ago I would leave at the first sign of bullshit and demand a refund for the seat, hoping it would get the theater to enforce the quiet/no lights in the future. But, the employees are usually teens/ young adults and shouldn't be put in a position where they could be physically assaulted for doing their job. The theater by me just closed. It was open since 1935. They couldn't deal with the bs and the rising insurance costs after the increase in people assaulting staff members and patrons in the city.
People have forgotten how to be around others due to the pandemic. Doesn't excuse this kind of behavior. Planes I somewhat get, if they have circulatory issues and whatnot. Movie theaters is just unacceptable.

I agree. Some people are too comfortable in public and in the movies. It's worse when they talk damn loud. When you ask them to be quiet; suddenly I AM THE BAD GUY?
A great time to “accidentally” spill your very chilly cold drink or sticky nacho sauce on their feet while getting up to go to the bathroom cause I would love to hear them explain the bare feet thing while complaining to staff.
I went to see the new spiderman movie with some of my friends the other day and people had no concept of deceny.
There were some kids that kept running in and out, a group of people that talked through the entire movie, someone that came in after the movie started with their flashlight on to get to their seat (and kept turning it on for a while), and also someone brought their baby for some reason to top it off.
This and people being worse at driving are two of the things that bother me most about post pandemic america. I’m sure the pandemic
is somehow at fault but I don’t know how yet. Was it really just not driving and going to the theater for a year or two enough to break the cultural mores?

They also had a pre-ad before wuthering heights telling people to keep there hands to themselves. It was only wuthering heights as I never saw that pre-ad again.
Had someone behind me put their feet up on my chair had his left foot to the left of me and the right foot to my right (both bare feet)
He looked at me in disdain when I asked him to please put them away. Only complied when I threatened to call the number that they communicate at the start of the film for when people misbehave.
This was during Star Wars Episode VII so humans have been awful for a while now.
This is why I just wear flip flops to the movies, dogs already aired out and no one notices if they slip off. Also I go when barely anyone is in the theater so no one in my row to piss off.
Depends on the movie ime, Sci Fi movies(especially anything with "Star" in the title) bring out people who rarely leave their house or interact with other people outside their monthly trip to Walmart.
I will never go to another Star Trek film in theaters because there is always at least one motherfucker who has already seen the movie 5 times and will make sure everyone can heat them quoting lines before the actors on screen say them.
I will take Horror film heckling every day of the week over sitting next to a Trekkie
