I now have semantic satiation and protein doesn't look like a real word anymore.

u/Jomotaku 7h ago

Proteinproteinproteinproteinproteinproteinprotein

4

u/Acrobatic-Ad-9189 4h ago

is this because the food quality in the US is so shit that they make up for it by putting pppprrrooottteiinnn on everything

3

u/Jomotaku 3h ago

I'm German and we have the same phenomenon with proteh'een

30

u/Aware-Maximum6663 6h ago

TIL that has a name. Semantic satiation. Thank you

u/MistraloysiusMithrax 48m ago

Why is it satiation though? It’s not satisfying, it’s frustrating lol

u/Aware-Maximum6663 39m ago

Maybe saturating? Saturation?

I'm not kidding when I was told the other day that's its healthier to have bacon and eggs every single day, rather than a single bowl of OATMEAL because protein good and carbs bad

Like nothing wrong with some protein or being pro teen, but there has to be moderation. Plus bagels rule

284

u/MarsAstro 8h ago

I dunno, there are definitely some powerful men out there that should be way less pro teen.

It's honestly what all the ultra thinness comes from. When I was at the height of my eating disorder, the damage I was doing to my body ultimately mimicked a more pre-pubescent body. Losing curves, hair falling out, no period, less emotionally stable. It didn't even occur to me until I was in treatment how much my disorder was sexualized by people who knew I was sick.

You can see it, as well, as eating disorders extend to teen boys and men. They're encouraged to be hairless, immature, and to take supplements and hormones that cause genital shrinkage, hair loss, higher voices and in teenagers shorter stature. The lack of balanced nutrition makes them emotionally unstable much like in puberty as well.

This stuff is even mentioned in the e-files (I'm trying not to trigger bot responses to the word lol). It's gross and sad, and carried on by people like thiel and musk

7

u/Tough_Friendship9469 7h ago

Whomever could you mean?

12

u/The_cogwheel 5h ago

The people who are so pro teen they have a special island to [the rest of this comment has been removed for the safety of the commentor]

u/That_Shrub 17m ago

I hear David Copperfield is on the list. Disappearing that crowd always seemed suspect

3

u/Sprinklypoo 2h ago

I think it depends on the type of pro teen you are. I am pro teen in the way that I support proper education and would like them to grow up to live productive and fulfilling lives. And then there's our president...

92

u/AriaTheTransgressor 7h ago

My child recently started playing football, I've been making him dinners intended to support this changed lifestyle (balanced but with extra emphasis on Protein, fats, and Carbs) he asked me the other day why I keep making him eat pastas and stuff like that cause apparently some YouTube person told him carbs kill athletes.

I had to sit him down and explain essentially all fundamentals of Biology. I sometimes wonder if I'm failing...

68

u/gibberishmaster69 7h ago

Probably the best thing that could’ve happened! He asked, you taught, he learned.

32

u/Friend_of_the_trees 6h ago

This video about the Nate Diaz vs Conner McGregor fight. Would be a good lesson for your son. McGregor was a protein all day every day kind of guy and got beaten by a vegan who was able to outlast him with all the carbs he was eating.

16

u/particle409 5h ago

some YouTube person

Is Liver King still around? He was telling people to eat raw giraffe testicles or whatever, and his was a deep shade of hypertension.

12

u/The_cogwheel 5h ago

If you absolutely hate being sane, go diving into food and diet YouTube. For every 1 sane person giving practical and healthy advice theres like 12 suggesting if you eat anything other than chicken you raised yourself in a perfectly sterile environment than you're eating literal poison and killing yourself with chemicals.

Liver King is one example of thousands just like him. And some are even worse in their advice.

3

u/AccurateJerboa 3h ago

The name just makes me think he has hepatitis

1

u/autogyrophilia 4h ago

It wasn't the meat, it was the Trembolone.

5

u/biteableniles 4h ago

Extra emphasis on...protein, fats, and carbs?

Isn't that everything?

16

u/pinupcthulhu 7h ago

Never mind that there's a lot of protein in oatmeal too lmao

17

u/Zanven1 6h ago

And fiber. All that protein and no fiber is going to make for unpleasant bowel health.

4

u/pinupcthulhu 4h ago

Right, I just meant that if their big deal is protein, then a high protein grain shouldn't be on their shit list lol

4

u/Sprinklypoo 2h ago

There's so much food misinformation out there, it's really shocking that more of us aren't obese or malnourished...

9

u/fortifiedoptimism 7h ago

But bacon has protein 🤔

14

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 7h ago

It does. I missed a word. Basically they claim the red meat and protein is better daily than a bowl of plain oatmeal

4

u/fortifiedoptimism 7h ago

Gotcha. Makes sense now.
I’m one of those people who has a body that is not a fan of carbs and so I see where they’re coming from but I find it wild that some people think there’s one specific way of eating that is healthiest for everyone.

3

u/Henry5321 6h ago

I wasn’t getting enough carbs and it was causing me anxiety and sleep disruptions as my body increased stress hormones to stabilize my blood sugar during recovery.

My doctor has me eating some more carbs but still less than the typical “recommended”.

I’ve found for myself I don’t need a lot of carbs for energy, but I do need them during growth.

Each person is different.

3

u/owlindenial 3h ago

It depends on how active you are, thinking and exercise wise. You could genuinely need the extra oomph of the bacon and eggs. I would enter a calory defeceit if I only ate oatmeal

3

u/Boom_the_Bold 2h ago

I'm diabetic, so... they're not entirely wrong. 🤷🏼‍♂️

2

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 2h ago

Of course. Nothing is black and white and oatmeal can 100% be bad, especially for a diabetic.

But there's no way eating bacon and eggs everyday is good for you either

10

u/victorbarst 7h ago

Different strokes for different folks i guess. I've tried tons of different diets over the years but the all protein diet was the first one that actually worked for me. Nothing but unseasoned meat, cheese, eggs and dairy products for 4 months and I lost half my gut. Didn't really lose much weight though as j had so much energy I started going to the gym regularly and turned it into muscle

5

u/GrokLobster 5h ago

Did you eat any vegetables?

1

u/victorbarst 5h ago

Nope. No bread either and I cut back on sugar too. Cut soda and tea out completely started drinking nothing but low calorie water additives. Ive slowly phased back non protein foods now because meals start tasting like death after a while but for several months it was an apple, protein bar, or eggs in the morning, meat and cheese or skip for lunch, and meat and cheese for dinner

4

u/avenp 5h ago

This protein trend is basically a colon cancer speed-run.

u/Coveinant 33m ago

That's kind of something that's been lost. You need a balanced diet to not only live but thrive. Like you should not cut anything out of your diet unless your body physically cannot process it (ie lactose intolerance, diabetes or celiacs). I have weird anatomy due to bunch of circumstances but I work hard to eat as balanced a diet as I can and I'm weirdly very healthy.

1

u/Oniknight 6h ago

The thing that concerns me most is how most protein powders are contaminated with worrying amounts of lead.

2

u/autogyrophilia 4h ago

They are not. That's sensationalism.

2

u/Oniknight 4h ago

I literally see lead warnings on all the protein shit at the grocery store.

1

u/autogyrophilia 4h ago

If you are in california, that's not an accident, the californian limits for everything and the warnings are so sensitive as to be essentially meaningless and creating a tendency for the consumer to simply ignore it.

There isn't a very concerning amount of lead in those products.

You know what has more lead per serving ? Things like spinach, brassicas and all kinds of seeds.

168

u/EatAndGreet 8h ago

The amount of protein products everywhere now is crazy. I’m assuming it’s partially because of how many people are on glp-1’s.

63

u/CypressRootsMe 6h ago

I think protein started trending with the paleo/keto/carnivore folks before glp1. Fiber is the new trend, which is better IMO

11

u/AmputeeHandModel 4h ago

Yeah, colon cancer is killing millennials because we don't get enough fiber from our shitty diets. I get tortillas that have extra fiber and Fiber One brownies. I know more natural fiber is better but it's a start.

69

u/NormalEarthLarva 8h ago

This is exactly it. Food is marketed to what’s popular at the time. Weight watchers, atkins, keto, etc.

9

u/ILL_Show_Myself_Out 5h ago

I’ve been using whey protein since I was a teenager. It was a cheat-code to staying slim- it’s so satiating. I genuinely think this trend is good. Also protein pancakes / other supplemented wheat products are GREAT. They give an otherwise carb filled buncha flour some body/substance. Pancakes needed protein we just didn’t know it.

10

u/i_amnotunique 4h ago

Right? Protein + fiber is arguably the healthiest "fad" in the last 30+ years imo. What's next, portion control fad?!? In this economy?!

5

u/Jellicle_KitCat 7h ago

Pre and probiotics, too.

2

u/Loqol 6h ago

My wife drinks Poppi for the probiotics.

I've tried it here and there, but it does nothing for my gut like kefir does.

6

u/Nature_Is_Lit_Yo 5h ago

it’s because the food’s quality gone downhill and the problem created by upper mgmt opened the door for the development of a solution that can be monetized for profit 🙃

1

u/Sprinklypoo 2h ago

There's always waves of misinformation that sweep a society...

1

u/snazztasticmatt 2h ago

It's just a diet trend. As someone doing active strength training, I love it because it makes it so much easier to hit my protein goals. It's also helpful when trying to lose weight because protein generally helps you feel full longer, especially for people who tend to break their calorie goals by snacking

147

u/Stresso_Espresso 8h ago

Totally agree that it’s gotten a bit silly- HOWEVER

I’m really glad they are making all these protien snacks because my sister is like chronically underweight and has 0 appetite and these protein pop tarts and things might be the only way she’s growing at all

36

u/ArthurBea 7h ago

Has she tested for celiac? One silent celiac effect is slowing growth! A kid I know suddenly gained weight and got taller after getting diagnosed and cutting gluten!

18

u/zonerator 6h ago

Iron deficiency can also br an issue for leads to low appetite

4

u/Stresso_Espresso 4h ago

Yep she’s been tested for everything lmao. She’s seen rheumatology, peds etc and her labs are basically fine she’s just like that I guess

5

u/coughcough 7h ago

I'm 6'2 and have celiac. Can't help but wonder if I'd be like 7'2 had they caught it earlier. So much for my NBA dreams.

7

u/autogyrophilia 5h ago edited 4h ago

Similarly, as a pretty serious weight lifter I do enjoy being able to eat a lot more shitty food.

Sometimes it's a bit ridiculous, like a high protein flan, it's egg and milk, you can't make it low protein.

But you don't need the 2g of protein per kilo or whatever nonsense if you aren't a very active trainer, hell, even if you are, you the studies only show that there is no improvement to muscle synthesis after that threshold, not that you cant get 95% of protein synthesis eating half.

1

u/niels_singh 5h ago

I'm in a similar boat here. With food/groceries getting more expensive, it's hard to eat enough on blue collar wages when you're working it all off. Boosting my regular rice and bean diet with protein shakes is how I stay alive

24

u/Tylendal 8h ago

An Indian café chain near me is advertising protein lassis. Aren't they already full of protein?

31

u/AriaTheTransgressor 7h ago

They should be, but that's just intelligent marketing.

Right now protein is the "in" thing, marketing that your product has protein (keep in mind the general American populace essentially shares a single brain cell) will draw more people in to purchase it, even if you've changed nothing about the product at all.

When protein becomes the "out" thing, they'll drop the ad and the product will still remain unchanged.

8

u/murmurat1on 7h ago

Easy win I guess

6

u/EvokeNZ 5h ago

I had some salami the other day that had ‘high in protein’ on the package. It’s 98% pork. It’s like putting ‘vegan’ on water.

2

u/Tylendal 4h ago

I've seen Non-GMO* salt before.

*Non-GMO Project Verified, which for legal reasons carries no actual assurance that the product does not contain GMOs. 🙄

3

u/_BlobbyTheBobby 7h ago

funnily enough, I've seen things marketed as protein with less protein than the normal product...

20

u/AccurateJerboa 6h ago

Meanwhile people get like 1 gram of fiber a day

48

u/XRynerX 8h ago

And many of said protein products are full of crap, in both ways.

5

u/GrokLobster 5h ago

The fact that Eggo is trying to cash in as health food based in its protein quantity should raise flags with everyone.

Have u ready the study u linked? Its barely related to ur statement

2

u/Wolfwoods_Sister 7h ago

I knew a guy who tried Keto (probably bc it was going around his church) to drop some weight, but his doctor told him he now had the out-of-control cholesterol of an 80yo.

1

u/fortifiedoptimism 7h ago

It probably wasn’t the keto itself but the fats and amounts he was eating on keto. That plus losing weight can also raise your LDL.

9

u/_BindersFullOfWomen_ 7h ago

You forgot protein farts

2

u/AccurateJerboa 3h ago

I worked in a small office where more than half the staff decided to do hardcore keto style diets together.

It smelled ghastly

20

u/Only_Government5244 8h ago

Comic brought to you by Big-Antiprotein

15

u/zaftpunk 8h ago

I read protein-teen like schfourteen-teen. Good ol schfifty five.

8

u/aerris7 7h ago

Girlfriend's age? Schfifty five.

8

u/zaftpunk 7h ago

My IQ? Schfifty five

18

u/Reasonable_Cycle_730 7h ago

Seriously this needs to stop.😭

5

u/Chiiro 7h ago

There's the current theory that the reason we are seeing so many of these protein "added" (some products claim they have added protein but have not increased the protein amount) products is because of medications like Ozempic. Apparently when you're on them you need to increase your protein intake quite a bit.

4

u/ParkingTradition4800 7h ago

A brand also made protein condoms here in india

3

u/tetrochromac 7h ago

I saw a protein vodka soda the other day

6

u/fuzzypurpledragon 7h ago

We started with protein, and we're now starting to see a Fiber trend because if you eat that much protein, you don't shit for three days.

You know people aren't getting enough when brands like MiraLax are advertising themselves as fiber supplements instead of laxatives, now...

3

u/-DitaDaBurrita- 7h ago

Ok but WHY do protein snacks and food stuff with “protein” have that chalky empty taste?!

2

u/Kevadu 7h ago

Because they don't want you to enjoy food

3

u/CinemaDork 5h ago

My diabetes dietitian recommends a number of high-protein foods like these to me (T1D) because they can make my glucose management easier. I feel like this is another instance of a trend being helpful for a specific community, like when people went gluten-free for basically no good reason but it helped make more GF products available for people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance

5

u/CatTaxAuditor 8h ago

I have some protein bagels. They're ok.

8

u/Altiverses 7h ago

I'm overjoyed with those products. As a chronically underweight guy and avid gym-goer who still has trouble hitting my protein goals, these are pure lifesavers.

I eat shit all the time. Catching up with calories with a $1.5 croissant is easy. In the past, there were no "protein cheat foods", now there are.

I understand these are not supposed to appeal to the whole wide market, no product is. But apparently they appeal to enough people, so fuck yeah

5

u/Mikel_S 8h ago

My doctor told me I needed to be taking in 150 to 225 grams of protein a day. I nodded and continued my 50-75 grams.

2

u/Lil_Kennedy27 2h ago

A doctor told you that? Those are like bodybuilding numbers

1

u/BBDAngelo 7h ago

I need 144g and they are super easy to get. Like, just eating regularly I get that amount, I don’t get why people want all these protein reinforced foods. Your body will not absorb all this

2

u/fox2trox92 6h ago

Next will be fiber

1

u/Traumagatchi 6h ago

Nah, the fiber fad was a few years ago

3

u/fox2trox92 6h ago

I’m positive it’s gonna come back. It wasn’t nearly as big as the protein boost that’s been going on

2

u/Traumagatchi 6h ago

I think you may be right

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 6h ago

No, that means eating plants.

1

u/fox2trox92 4h ago

Then why are they adding extra fiber to my tortillas?

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 3h ago

IDK, ask them.

Fiber means eating legumes, whole grains, whole fruits, vegetables and leafy greens. Maybe you can sprinkle in some extra seeds and Psyllium husks.

It's fine if it it's added to processed products, but it won't be enough compared to what you need at a minimum.

I mean, it could be popular, but it would take a lot of promotion and there's no really "Big Industry" behind it that has much to gain, like there is behind animal foods, fast foods, junk foods and "health foods."

Most of the "miracle nutrient" marketing is based, as is typical in capitalism, on selling something scarce. Even if we're talking about whole plants, they try to sell you on exotic stuff that's scarce and expensive. Meanwhile... your average cabbage and apple are insanely healthful. When's the last time you saw an ad for cabbage?

2

u/fox2trox92 2h ago

One tortilla has my entire daily value. How is that not enough?

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 2h ago

How many grams specifically?

1

u/fox2trox92 1h ago

Oh sorry. Two tortilla is my daily. Each one has 17g of fiber.

Jesus I didn’t realize people cared this much about some else’s eating habits…

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 1h ago

I care about fiber :)

34 g per day is a good start. The recommendations for the minimums are generally mediocre and should be heavily increased. Aim for 100 g/day, but not tomorrow... it needs to be a slow step, maybe +1 per week.

You seem to have found something rare if it's true.

1

u/fox2trox92 1h ago

https://www.missionfoods.com/products/carb-balance-soft-taco-flour-tortillas/

The carbsmart tortillas are extremely common and can be found in any major grocer. There are a ton of groceries that are fortified with fiber, including breads and other grain-based products.

100g of fiber a day sounds insane and I don’t feel like shitting my pants everyday when the daily intake for a grown woman is ~25g.

I have no idea where you’re getting your information from but it sounds like weird TikTok health-influencer stuff. I’ll continue to do as my doctor recommends.

1

u/dumnezero Art enjoyer 1h ago

Interesting ingredients. I don't have anything against cellulose, but let's say that it could be better.

The 25g you mentioned are the minimum, not the goal. Your doctor probably has low expectations or a poor nutrition education (unfortunately, very common.) Yes, in the US, most (average) are way under the minimum.

2

u/kfijatass 6h ago

I don't mind, honestly. Just wish we swapped to no added sugar outside of sweets and pastries. Would go a long way.

2

u/NewToHTX 6h ago

Protein is everywhere.

2

u/TheCharalampos 6h ago

Protein is good for you otherwise it would be called Antitein

2

u/Sea_Broccoli_167 6h ago

did someone say… PROTEIN?!?

2

u/ViftieStuff 5h ago

I saw protein cup ramen the other day.

One of our supermarkets (Lidl I think) now has Skyr mixed with energy. It's getting out of hand but is also kinda funny.

2

u/Dxpehat 3h ago

Nah, it's already an old trend. The new trend is adding fibers to soda.

5

u/UpCDownCLeftCRightC Never Safe From Wumbo 8h ago

From protein to anti-tein.

2

u/PandaBear905 7h ago

And they all taste like crap

3

u/Dear-Tank2728 7h ago

Idk protein soda sounds stupid but after a minute I realize its kinda genius. Sugar free and has a useful nutrient. As long as it tastes decent it's actually something I wanna try. Just gotta find it

3

u/Zwiebelbread 7h ago

I don't get why people need protein in everything. I easily get to my protein goals and above without the stuff. Well, I do drink protein shakes, but I feel like those don't count because they're kinda normal by now, no?

11

u/come-on-now-please 7h ago

Im gonna go with the rise of bodybuilding and fitness culture.

Apparently theres also another phenomenon where in culteral upheavals/economic stress, traditional gender roles and their associated images get reinforced(big strong muscley man, and slim  but shapely women), guess what you have to do to get those physiques?

The fact that you think drinking a protein shake is normal just shows how normalized its become within thr past couple years.

It used to be the only people drinking shakes for protein were actual serious athletes or body builders, not your mom who maybe does a pilates or yoga class once a week or a random office worker who doesn't even work out.

10

u/Ok_Oil_995 7h ago

No, they're not

But yeah, most people have no trouble getting enough protein

-10

u/Reoplaw 7h ago

I feel like most people include protein shakes in their days, I do it even when I don't go to the gym.

it's a quick, nutritious meal that will keep you full, what more can you want from a meal?

10

u/Ok_Oil_995 6h ago

No, they really don't.

-9

u/Reoplaw 6h ago

I'm pretty sure they do.

half of my class are gym goers and every single one of them drink protein shakes, I don't know if they do it daily but like, it doesn't take a genius to draw a conclusion here.

8

u/Ok_Oil_995 6h ago

I don't know a single person who does. I think you might be around a lot more gym goers than average, so your perception is skewed.

1

u/MaybeAdrian 8h ago

The only reason I had to get those protein deserts was because it was the only way of getting a desert that is half their weight on sugar.

I buy soy yogurts now and call it a day

1

u/YesterdayHiccup 7h ago

I found some protein doritos and protein popcorner. Wasn't terrible, but there was some dry and powdery aftertaste.

1

u/Jomotaku 6h ago

Its funny if it's stuff that's already protein so they just write it on for marketing. Like protein cheese/yogurt. Reminds me of things like air fryer fries or chicken wings when it's just rebranded priced up regular things

1

u/BoatMan01 6h ago

It's gotten silly.

1

u/Vanessaronicatoria 6h ago

Hate to say it, even a regular bagel has higher protein content than a normal slice of bread. The chew comes from extra gluten.

1

u/sargentbumblebee 6h ago

Not enough protein in the regular bagel

1

u/HoneyMustardAndOnion 6h ago

Oh this whole protein craze is just marketing really. In response to GLP-1, the most commonly covered drug on company health plans, businesses are rebranding shit as "GLP-1 friendly" and "high in protein" because you eat a lot less on a GLP-1 and these companies have been pushing that protein keeps you fuller longer to try and get people to continue to buy their products. Sure some items do have more protein but youll just piss most of it out at the end of the day because your body doesnt need that much.

1

u/bing-no 5h ago

Waiting for the fiber renaissance personally.

1

u/astrangeone88 5h ago

I'm just glad for the trend because my elderly parents would be happy to just subsist on carbs and fat and the protein added bagels are silly but they taste decent.

They refuse Ensure and Greek yogurt....

1

u/Machizadek 5h ago

As someone who loves working out, it’s almost impossible to get proper protein intake. Most gym bros are wrong about necessary protein intake. They’ll say you need 1.5 grams of protein for every pound you weigh (sorry non American bros, i don’t what that’d be under kilograms). When it comes to intense workouts, the more protein and carbohydrates the better. However, your body can only digest so much protein at a time. Gym bros on message boards are trying to push that this is a myth, so I said fuck their opinions and went to a dietician.

Essentially, you’ll be lucky to digest 30-40 grams of protein at a time. What matters is consistency. 30-40 grams every 2 hours is what will really make the biggest difference. I’m not as intense these days as when I was a teen. I used to set alarms every 2 hours, even waking up in the middle of the night several times to down some boiled eggs.

All these protein foods are annoying I’m sure, but having some variety makes that kinda workout so much easier. Boiled eggs, sausage, and oatmeal everyday gets old. Sometimes I don’t have time to prepare a meal for my protein intake. Snacks make it easy.

1

u/doctorbanjoboy 5h ago

Ha I bought protein bagels the other day just tro try em. 20g per bagel but it's really calorie dense so you gotta watch out

1

u/toonfinch 4h ago

i appreciate it because i have avoidant restrictive food intake disorder and pain that makes it difficult to cook, and whey protein can improve the flavor of things. i do wish more things had fiber too though. Goodles pasta is pretty yummy, its enriched

2

u/PeteHealy 2h ago

Pasta (including gnocchi) made from chickpeas is very good, in my experience.

1

u/raekle 4h ago

My favorite was "Pro Protein Teen". Well done! :)

1

u/Galvandium 4h ago

I preferred the sweet heat craze, now I can't get it as easily as I used to

1

u/charlieyeswecan 3h ago

They just opened a protein ice cream place in my neighborhood. Maybe I’ll try it, but why?

1

u/Maleficent-Bet8207 3h ago

Proteine eggs

1

u/RoboJobot 3h ago

High protein is the new ‘lo fat’

1

u/Darkm0or 2h ago

High protein usually means higher carbohydrates. Offsetting the added protein ingredients by adding more sugars does nothing for the average consumer. Another marketing gimmick to justify a higher price point on processed foods.

1

u/liefbread 2h ago

My wife is a vegetarian and has gestational diabetes and the protein everything has been fantastic for controlling her blood sugar.

1

u/-nyx- 2h ago

Variation and fresh vegetables is the key to a healthy diet. Simple as.

You want a varied diet, don't eat the same thing all of the time and you should be fine.

1

u/Cat_world_domination 2h ago

Protein bagel doesn't seem that weird to me, protein soda is way weirder.

1

u/FWYDU 2h ago

I'm trying to avoid carbs and refined sugars and certain protein bars and chips and jerky are some of the best snacks for my diet. I found that Aloha bars have high protein and fiber and actually taste good to me. I just make sure to eat plenty of fiber and drink plenty of water.

1

u/Tuxedo_Muffin 1h ago

Protein snacks, protein shakes, protein IV injections, protein sunscreen, protein oil changes, protein pen ink, protein electrical grommets, protein cabinet hinges, protein diamonds, protein hydrologic acid, protein Higgs Boson particles

1

u/PsychicSPider95 1h ago

Protein bagel?

You mean like... a regular bagel with cream cheese and lox?

It's wild to want a latte with protein considering coffee helps you poop while too much protein makes it hard to poop. I hope the next trend is fiber.

Science has gone too far.

The protein craze is weird. A year ago everything said whole grains and how much fiber it had. Now everything says protein. Protein doesn’t really make me feel full and I know I got more than enough prior to the protein craze.

Protein is literally just a fad companies use to make stuff more expensive. They can add a cent of extra production cost to add some protein, so they can charge double for the same product with a “protein” label on it

In the Netherlands, they literally have protein chocolate milk, big advertising push and everything, trying to paint it as a fucking sports drink.

It’s just preying on consumers that just think anything with protein on it is healthy. Most people get enough proteins per day, you don’t need supplements unless you’re a special case. It does NOTHING, but because most consumers dont know that, companies just charge double for that garbage

Yep, it's a marketing gimmick; the (first?) peak of the current keto-carnivore fad. Part of the problem is that there's a lot more science and science news, so people have gotten used to talking about "macros" and "nutrients", and the marketing has kept up. This is not a linear phenomenon.

if a serving has less than 20g of protein, it has no right to label itself as "protein"
