Never take the headphones, always use earplugs, and make sure you pull your ear up & back when you put them in. (There are videos online)
I was in Industrial Safety; more importantly, I've had about 10 MRIs, and I'm on the spectrum, so yeah. 😉

And I think a scary ad could cause an overwhelmed claustrophobic person to have a panic attack so maybe they should spring for premium as a business expense

I've offered to install an adblock specifically for Spotify for three separate hospitals. It's free, but they still won't even let me talk to the IT guys, despite having a CompSci degree myself. I get security risks, but damn, at least let them evaluate it.

I have cerebral palsy, so I have a very strong startle reflex. I've had a ton of MRIs without music, and at least the music helped me not flinch every 30 seconds when it makes a new noise

When I did an MRI, they played some sort of awful new wave meditation track backing. A timeless sea of noise that made the MRI feel like it was taking forever.

I had a surgery years ago where they had a ton of trouble stabilizing me and my mom put Pandora on on classical music and it immediately brought everything in line, but that was ad supported too, so you could see on the heart monitor exactly when there was an ad - fine, fine, fine, haywire briefly, fine, fine..

CAT Scan! Those are less scary than an MRI because they're like 10 minutes moving through a doughnut shape and way quieter, while an MRI is not moving in a giant tube with a huge magnet clanking around for about an hour. If the three you had were all for the same injury, they probably gave you the CAT scans to figure out what was going on, then had to do the MRI to look at soft tissue or tendons.
CAT scans really do give you the feeling that you peed your pants though lol. I've been warned about it at every scan, and it's still weird.

Did this recently, had 3 consecutive MRIs, one had to be redone, so I was in there for an hour total. SO MANY ADS WTF. It was torture, esp when the heart wrenching song Gethsemane by Sleep Token was immediately followed by a long fuckass ad about insurance.

Fun fact. There's "normal" MRIs, then there's "We need to MRI your head".
Last year (fuck it feels like a century ago) I came down with a bad case of Bells Palsy and, while everyone was pretty sure I wasn't going to drop dead within the next hour due to a stroke they wanted to MRI my head juuuust to be sure.
I'd had MRIs in the past. I'm not super claustrophobic, and the MRI tube kinda straddles that line between being okay and full unhinged panic for me. However, I was not expecting The Head Cage TM.
I dunno what the reason is. If it's because they REALLY don't want you moving, or if the shape of the human skull does something weird or what. But when they did that MRI on my head the put me in The Head Cage. Which restrained my head just a little. I could jiggle back and forth a little, but couldn't really move my head. My nose was constantly in contact with the front of the cage.
I am both disappointed and incredibly happy that my blood pressure was not being monitored because I have never had to suppress panic like that for an extended period in my life. Next time my face gets droopy, I think I'll just take my chances with the stroke.
Anyway, that's my trauma dump for the week.

I had a scare last year where I needed to get scanned to see if I had a dormant aneurysm. I thankfully didn’t have one, but i became very familiar with the Head Cage haha
