If this were a skit, that would've been your own birthday party. "Y'all forgot to invite her to her own party?!"
Tis' a silly mistake. Hopefully you weren't too bummed out about it!

u/Febrilinde 13h ago
Sadly enough I lived through this skit. Some of my friends in the friend group had similar birthdays with me so people organised a suprise multiple birthday celebration and forgot to bring me, and called me last minute about my whereabouts, I was already in bed so didn't bother getting out of it just to be one and half hour late to my birthday party.

u/RedditUser000aaa 13h ago
Damn, I am so sorry that happened to you! I'm sure you didn't feel good about that, like it was an afterthought to invite you.
Hopefully people tried to make it up to you, even if you felt bad at the time (which is fine)
I get that parties are hard to plan, but that's why they should be planned well ahead. Who are the people being celebrated, where, when, who brings what.
This comes from a party planner perspective:
I planned one of my biggest parties (celebrating an age milestone) 6 months ahead, to make sure people have time to plan ahead. I planned the food, the drinks, gave reminders about it, because I'm sure people don't know their schedules six months ahead.
Despite all of that, some people still didn't manage to find time.
But I made damn sure to plan out the guest list, make sure everyone has enough to eat and drink. So no one would be left out.
But at least everyone knew that I was planning it and those who didn't want to come over, couldn't feel bad, because I gave them all enough prep time and reminders.
So I can guess that planning such a big multiparty would be much harder, especially if people aren't used to planning things in advance.

Hey, at least they remembered you. Someone with a birthday the day before mine had their celebration on my birthday (and they forgot to invite me). And then asked me when my birthday was the next day -_-

I was roommates with my buddy, his girlfriend didn't like me for some reason, as in she's said less than 10 words to me the entire time I knew her. She wanted to celebrate my buddy's birthday at our apartment, and asked if I could leave the apartment for the party.
Again, the party for my friend, which she knew damn well I was already invited, hosted in my own fuckin home, and she wanted me to not be there.

This was my bachelor party. They wanted it to be a surprise, but didn't bother telling my partner to block off a date in my calendar. On Thursday night they told me we were going out the next night to a show they bought tickets for. I was 4 states away doing something with my partner's family. They already bought the tickets and all went to the show anyway.

Oh you'll 100% be invited.
Now if they remember to tell you, that's kinda up in the air

I like the idea that everyone you know IRL has to be weary of what they do for fear of being canonized in your comics.
Don't even think about cutting in front of me, old woman at the grocery store with a yappy dog

Seems like being in a comic is either a blessing or a curse depending on my impression of you xD

Is this her "HP Lovecraft doesn't have a constitution for mathematics" face?
6
u/RavensSing 8h ago
Nah, it's her "Greece, I love you, but come on, man" face. HP Lovecraft was more of a 'Uh, what the fuck?' than a 'What the fuck, man?'

Reminds me of one time we got the family together for christmas and ended the evening with a picture with grandma. Gather the whole gaggle, find a seat everyone on the couch (and behind, we're a big family), take the picture, then watch grandma stumble into the room while we're trying to figure out who's missing lol

So you think that sometimes your friends intentionally mess with you to get into your comics?

It's like when one of my uncles died, everyone forgot to tell me about it, and then when I eventually DID find out, they blamed me for forgetting. Riiight, the guy who likes his family would just randomly forget that one of them died. -_-

Honestly, missed a chance by having Kathan’s text bubble point to him being just out of frame.
(And then give him his own bonus panel)

You know what? Sucks to get overlooked, but it's kinda wholesome that they all want her to be there. Doesn't seem like a "Oops we excluded you and accidentally mentioned the party," seems like friends legitimately had a brain fart.
(Also do we talk about the main character as "her" because it's a comic character, or should it be "you" because it's about kaikimanga?)

I had a similar experience once when I was in eighth grade or so! My friend texted me and we had this exact conversation:
Friend: “Hey!”
Me: “Hello :D”
Friend: “What did you get [other friend’s name]”
Me: “What”
Friend: “The party”
Me: “What”
Me: “Nothing ig”
Friend: “I thought she invited you”
Me: “Nope :D”
Friend: “Oh sorry I didn’t know! :(“
Me: “It’s fine! Have fun at the party!”
That was a wonderful conversation to have at 10pm when I had already had all of the energy ripped out of me.

I have to know, is Kathan pronounced like Nathan or is it more of an 'on' sound
4
u/kaikimanga MangaKaiki 12h ago
I was told there's a specific way to pronounce it but the easiest way for most of us to say it sounds like Catan

Yeah stuff like that is painfully awkward. Had a good friend I was gonna carpool with forget to pick me up for the party, and when they didn't answer my texts I just called them and they were like "Ooohhhh shit oops sorry sorry sorry". But hey it happens to the best of us sometimes right?
Congrats to Kathan for making it into a comic at least good for him!

When I was active in my local community theater this would happen all the time.
Most of the cast would plan some get together, but no one made sure I knew, or they'd invite me through my sister who was also in the cast.
Or the next day someone would ask.
I think about it a lot, and fuck it sucks.

Literally me every day at work when I am the last person to find out about anything.
At least I don't have to pretend those people are my friends.

u/ArtofWASD 8h ago
Hey. You know what. Forgetting to invite, but actively thinking they were AND calling to make sure they are OK when they dont show up i way better than just not inviting her at all.

This sorta happened to me once. Woke up to my cousin texting me that she was extremely upset that I no-showed to her dinner party the previous night without saying anything. It was planned very publicly in our family group chat, but they yap a lot in there about things I really have no comment on so I often don't read it for days at a time. I genuinely had zero clue it was happening.
Yea, that was a hard one to explain.

u/Brave_Committee_4886 10h ago
This isn’t as bad as “oh we didn’t invite you cause we didn’t think you’d want to come.” Or something similar to that. This seems more like, “I thought you invited her.” “Me, I thought you did.” Which means they did want you there, but whose job it was to invite you got lost in the planning.
2
u/Gabby-Abeille 11h ago
Hey, looks like it was just a little miscommunication. It happens sometimes! The important thing is that they wanted you there, or they wouldn't have called. I get the sense from your comics that you have lovely friends.

Honestly props for still going. Ain’t no way I’m getting dressed and heading to a party I didn’t even know about that’s already started. gonna be over by the time I get there

u/Kuneria 12h ago
I have 100% had to last second tell a friend to pull up to the party because all of us assumed a different friend was going to tell them about it. Like we went full circle. When we're all best friends we just kind of assume the best friend will tell their best friend but we're all best friends with each other!!! I guess we're just banking on telepathic communication at this point

I wasn't invited to my godfather's funeral, and I didn't know about his death until a month after the funeral. Two of my aunts asked why I didn't participate. Awkward.

Mmm. Don't know the nuances of what happened. But to me this just reads like your 'friends' suck and you need new ones.
