I’ve only really played until the 4th level, and I got to say: the third and fourth bosses are awful.

The third boss feels like a bullet hell, only that it’s difficult to aim at the turrets, and the fourth boss is a total mess when you destroy one of the heads.

To easily pass the third (waterfall) boss, use the invincible "B" item drop that appears at the start of the stage.

The item only drops if you have no weapon, so either don't pick anything up or suicide before you get there. Then rush upwards to the boss and you should have enough time to kill it before the invincibity wears off.

I show this in my no death 1cc video starting at approx. 2 minutes and 35 seconds in: https://youtu.be/fdFinZvmBT4?t=155

Whoa a wild Pete Hahn! Question: is point scraping against the Twin Galaxies rules for high score runs? A while ago I was trying to beat your high score and got up to 1.7 mil on an emulator, but was unsure if grinding baddies while the clock ran down was illegal

Yeah, the point scraping is limited by timers in the tunnel stages and on the normal levels there's and invisible timer running in the background, as well.

Once you linger too long, several spikes come from off-screen and home in on you to kill you.

The TG rules aren't super clear but as long as you can't point scrape / leech indefinitely, then it is allowed.

I really appreciate the clarification! I noticed it’s possible to time the flying spikes that come to kill you and jump over them, but I stopped short of figuring out how to do that. 2 mil in contra is quite a feet, btw. Hearing that makes me want to give Contra another go on my next Galloping Ghost trip

If you're using mame, you can learn patterns using cheats. That's how I got the hang of the arcade versions.

Contra was awesome on Nintendo with 30 live cheat(when you had limited continues). On mame it’s just pump a bunch of continues and keep playing it until you beat it.
