Twenty years ago, Cooler Master released the legendary Stacker 830 and I set out to build a PC worthy of it.

After just 125 hours of power-on time, disaster struck and a PSU failure stopped me in my tracks. Time passed, and the build sat unfinished for two decades.

Now it's back with a Ryzen 9950X3D and one of the larger RTX 5080's, but not without its challenges.

Challenges aside, it turns out the Stacker 830 was so far ahead of its time that 20 years of hardware evolution didn't even make it flinch.

I put a lot of time into documenting this build, including the challenges, modifications, temperatures, noise levels, and the lessons learned along the way. That's tempting, because I am a bit of a car nut too

If they are somehow able to make a dual tower version that could perform better than the Noctua, I'd say it's worth making the swap. V12? Yes.

Very realistic because I think this single tower version is just a degree or two behind the Noctua

Can you use your own fans on the V8?

Omg. im getting nostalgia vibes from seeing old school hardware.
Im a huge fan of old cases, back then they were fun.
For a 20 year old case, its still so clean. Normally aluminum will get blemishes.

There are one or two. I think it's oxidation or something. Fortunately, it's spent the last 20 years under cover so that's kept it in reasonable condition. Sadly the inside got scratched up by the drive cage and the side panels are probably the hardest side panels in history to actually get to line up and install right haha.

Out of the entire case, it's relatively mark free except a little scratch on the front... Of all the places T_T

It got me wondering what a polished aluminium Stacker would look like.

I have a Stacker 830 Nvidia Edition. Haven't done anything with it yet because all my current parts are in a Cosmos 1000.

That's something I noticed about older cases when I was going through some photos, it seems dual 80mm exhaust used to be a thing, then it moved to single 120mm?

I’m over here with a Stacker 831. This one is in disrepair because the owner kept it in a smoking room for nearly this entire time.

I would love to have a better condition one.

That thing was heavy AF. Mounted some wheels under it so i could move it for cleaning the room and such.

I have a stacker 832. Do you perhaps have the ability to fully 3d scan the cosmetic panel around the power button/front usb panel? Mine is broken unfortunately (

I don't have any specific tool for that I'm afraid. Maybe there is an android app I can use on my phone but I don't know how accurate or useful that will be. I expect you'd need some proper sensors (lidar etc) rather than just a camera.

It's a long shot, but maybe ask Cooler Master if they have a CAD file for that part.

If it's a basic part, would high resolution photos and measurements work? Then maybe you can make something in some 3D software for printing.

It's ok, and i doubt cooler master has 20 year old cad files. Mine is broken, but is still recognizable, so i COULD remodel it myself, but i use tinkercad, so the process would be abysmally difficult for me. maybe it would be easier if i had digital calipers, but i don't

I also have one of theese, with the caster wheels on the bottom, I really wanted a cosmos1000 though.

I work at a store that recycles electronics and somebody brought in a Stacker 830 Nvidia edition and Cosmos 1000. My boss let me take them both home. I put all my current PC parts into the Cosmos and it's awesome but goddamn its heavy as hell.

I just picked one up off marketplace! Absolutely blown away by the quality of the case. Still sourcing parts, but I can’t wait to design some custom fan mounts for it and make it mine.
