He burrowed into my hand and clothes a lot after I took him out and his face seems a bit weird and he likely shed over the weekend (I was away) his nostrils are very different to eachother (also holding him like this was the only way to get a good video)

Nag (Nugget) was a 3 year 2 month and 9 day old male cornsnake and was a tessera strawberry snow morph. He was the sweetest boy alive and would let anyone handle him. That isn't to say he was always this way. When nugget was a baby he was a master escape artist and was assumed gone for good multiple times. But every time he would come back with a story to tell. His first ever escape was when I was living at home. He was just a tiny little baby and escaped through a gap in his door. One I didn't even see before that was meant for electric cables. I was woken up in the dead of night to my cat hissing and meowing like crazy. When I turned my flashlight on I saw my giant kitten being backed into a corner by an itty bitty lil worm with a big attitude! I quickly snatched him up and put him back into his enclosure only to see him try to go out the hole again! That's how I found out about it. Well I patched it up with some air dry clay and shopped for a more permanent solution in the morning. The next grand escape was when I moved out and into an apartment with my best friend. I took him with me of course and he was in a Jerry rigged enclosure for a couple weeks while his new one shipped to us. The day before the enclosure was set to arrive I searched around in his tank only to find he wasn't there! I turned the apartment upside down but unfortunately there just wasn't much in it yet. We were first time renters so all we had was a table, pull out couch, and a sofa in the living room where he was kept. We had appliances but couldn't figure out how to move them because they were built into the apartment wall. Not even 2 days later we get a call from our one and only neighbors across the hall. Nugget had snuck into their apartment and gone after their cat! I guess basil wasn't enough for her! He had gotten scratched on the tail but was otherwise uninjured. He had bitten the roommate's girlfriend when she tried to pick up what she thought was a weird pink worm. She freaked out and called the landlord before the boyfriend had a chance to see what was going on. Thankfully they got him back to us and the landlord just made us pay the pet deposit. His final escape attempt happened last year. Nugget was getting to be a big boy but had his official enclosure now. The one issue with this tank is that it had these glass doors that when clean you couldn't see at all and it was hard to tell if they were perfectly closed or not. So one day when cleaning I forgot to close the door but didn't notice until that night. I turned my house apart looking for him but I'd moved back into my childhood bedroom and it was much much messier than the apartment. I couldn't find him anywhere and went to bed sobbing at how I messed up and lost my favorite snake. That night at 3 am I felt my cat licking my face and swatted her away. She always did that when I cried but I wasn't in the mood at the time. But for some reason instead of fur I felt scales! I woke up In an instant and looked down at my bright pink snake just slithering around in my bed. I'd forgotten that the bed was connected to the table he resided on most of the time. I snatched him up quick as anything and flipped the light on to see if he was okay. Other than some dust on his face the little guy was fine. He was immediately put into his enclosure and I installed a black lock on the door that night.

Nugget never tried escaping after that.

A few months ago I placed nuggets mouse in the enclosure and waited for his big reaction. He loved mice and white ones specifically. Maybe because they were easier to see or he just liked them better that way. Either way I sat by and saw him slowly approach only to scoot away slowly and hide somewhere else in the tank. I tried moving the mouse over to him again since it was growing cold and I know he won't eat a cold mouse. But he was even more upset and zoomed away like it bit him. But that's impossible, the mouse has been dead for at that point weeks in my freezer. Maybe it had gone bad? So the next feeding day I bought some new mice from the local pet shop and tried again. But this time it was the same result. I tried leaving it in there but it just went bad. This went on for multiple feeding days and I couldn't figure it out. It has been 2 months and he still didn't want to eat. I reached out to a few forums for snake help and they all said that since he was male and it was spring he was probably just looking for a female. But that didn't make any sense. He had met a female once but was scared of her and they only briefly sniffed each other during an enrichment day outside. I finally caved and tried a live mouse my cat had caught. But it was the same result. He was terrified. I was so confused and I asked the forum again if I was missing anything but they said it'll be okay and he will be fine. Snakes go long stretches without food all the time in the wild. I stupidly listened and let it go on a bit longer. Every week trying something new to see if I could get him to eat. Even assist feeding him with the help of a herpetologist I knew. But he just threw it up later that day. Finally. One day. He ate! I put another live mouse in the tank I had been fattening up for a week with specialized diets and calcium and nutrients and he took it instantly! He gobbled it down and looked for more. I didn't want to stress out his organs too much but decided to do it again next week and went to get another mouse to start again. And he ate again! Then I had to go on a trip. I'd only be gone 4 weeks and told his caretaker exactly what to do and she did just that. But he wouldn't eat. Well he did on the 8th of last month but just regurged later that night. They say he ate again the 22nd but looking at him the 24th, it wasn't the case. I finally had enough and decided to take him to the vet where he got a clean bill of health and I got a clean bill of $350. They told me to come back when he gave me a stool sample but I had noticed something the vet hadn't seemed to really pick up on. The room was really cold. Like 50°. Which as anyone knows for reptiles is not a good deal. I had to keep putting him in my shirt but he was getting lethargic and wasn't really moving. Even going so far as to kinda go limp and not be able to hold his head up. I told the vet he didn't look so good but he didn't seem bothered . I think they were more amused at the fact they had a cute snake in the office than anything. Praising him for being so well behaved when I knew he was just way too cold. But the cold must have gotten to me too. I stopped thinking clearly and walked outside more confused than anything and dreading driving the 1 and a half hour drive home. Then it hit me. It was 90 degrees today and while I entered the vets office when it was cool. The appointment had taken hours and it was the hottest it would be all day at that moment. I rushed to my car and struggled with the lock and flipped on my janky ac. But it was too late. The heat change had already gotten to him and Nugget was seizing before we got home. I tried to put him in his tank and see if he would snap out of it but he was gone in moments. I'm not sure what I'll do now. I've had Nugget so long it's hard to think of what comes next. I'd planned to have him for the next 20 years. Every purchase seen as an investment into his health and safety. And the one time I tried to help him I ended up killing him with my stupidity. Of course it was going to be cold in the vets office. When isn't it? And of course it would be boiling outside. It's late August. He had gone through so much in his short 3 years that I'd started forgetting that he was so fragile. He had fought off cats 100 times his size and won. He had explored so much of the outside world. He had been the reason so many people got over their fear of snakes. My family included. He is what started my love of the hobby and was such a huge part of who I was as a person. Sure I've got other snakes but none of them are Nugget. None of them will come close to replacing him or filling the void he left. But I guess that's not what they are there for.

I love you Nugget and I hope you are swimming in a buffet of mice up there. You've earned it after everything you've gone through. I'll see you on the other side. 💕

I got Billie Jean mid July, and I have recently been trying to handle her, but she immediately skitters away. All the info I can find online is people gently picking up their corn snakes, but mine isn’t letting me near her at all.

how would you guys recommend getting her used to being handled? (enclosure pics for referenc). She eats very well and is very active.

I live in the midwest USA. There is talk that the el niño that has caused extreme heat could also cause crazy ice storms or nothing in my area. I want to prepare something to keep a minimum amount of heat for my snakes if we lose power for an extended amount of time.

I currently have 5 cornsnakes 4months-1yr. If we lose power I was thinking of a tub type set up with a heat tape on a thermostat hooked up to a battery generator/power bank.

Does anyone have an emergency set up they use?

My snake are iny basement. If we lose power the basement gets really cold (it is a finished basement)

Anyone use heat tape and tubs? If so what brand do you recommend.

He was was very calm and only hid for about 10 minutes before coming out. Hes exploring now but I won’t be bothering him much for the next 5 or so days until he’s settled in.

Not too long ago i added quite some real plants into my girls terrarium and ever since ive seen a couple fruitflies. Not a lot, maybe like 3-5? But obviously id want 0. How can i safely get rid of them? Or do i have to get rid of the plants all together.

So this is my first post here (super new to reddit so please lmk if I mess something up and I'll edit), but my adult corn snake Falkor escaped. I don't even know how, the door is latching, and I haven't touched the door he forced open in over a week (and he crawls all over it constantly). But I woke up this morning to find the door swung open and moss from his tank all over the floor :( my friend came over and we tore apart the house, he's not little, about 3 feet and thicker than my thumb by a decent amount. My house is currently covered in flour, tissue paper, and heat mats with hides on top. I have some feeder mice to try thawing and placing in his tank later into the night. I am checking all the hides and the flour poured on my floor every 30 minutes, additionally I moved his tank to the floor and left it open hoping he'd return to his favorite sleeping spot (under his water bowl). Plus Im keeping my house completely dark and quiet as to listen to see if he rustles any of the tissue paper. There is no escape to the outside, or even into the walls, my home is newly built and I can't even fit a coin into any of the seams on the doors. Im just devastated because I had him out just yesterday and even gave a lovely update to the rescue I got him from (I've had other snakes since 2023 so I'm not new to snakes in general). I have family coming to help me search but if any of you have any advice on what else I can do please let me know.

The best I can seem to do without having to screw into the tank is by stacking branches and I have a bendable foam kinda branch in it which I propped up for some height in the middle. My snake is still fairly small and light so he doesn’t put too much strain on it when he is up on them but I’ve seen peoples snakes injuring themselves with things falling on them and I don’t want that to happen to me. Or at least try my best to not have it happen. I live in Ireland and I don’t know of anywhere I can get any spray foam to make a rocky background and I’m also not very art inclined. I also will have nowhere to put him while everything dries so I don’t really know what to do other that putting in some screws with ropes on them but I want to keep a kinda natural look. Thanks.

Hi! Im a first time owner of snakes. I have a cornsnake who is about 2 years old. I has just giving him food a few days ago when he didnt want to eat. I was worried cuz I had lessend the time between feeding as he was looking quite thin. I have only given him food 2 times after I have made the window smaller for feeding time, and the 2 time he did want to eat. I have just tried to give him again today, but he just struck out after it, like he was trying to defend himself. I was thinking he might be shedding but he just dont look like he should shed soon. Idk mabye its just that, I think I will just wait a week time to see if want food then. Im just about worried as he is looking thin.

What products you use to clean inside the enclosure and things that will go in there? I dont want to use something that could make my snake sick.

(jokes aside, she does have a nicely decorated, big terrarium, this is just part of decoration/hiding and usually covered in those flowers all along)

i need some advice regarding my 3yr old Voyevoda Strangelove (cornsnake). she is currently in the final stage of her shed cycle (her eyes just cleared up today, so she should shed in the next 1–4 days). i haven't fed her during this process and she has been hiding. also, im unaware if she has been drinking water during this last shed cycle.

today i noticed a very prominent sagging (looks like flaccid skin but idk) skin/swelling right under her mouth/throat area (gular area).
i've been consulting this with a friend (he's a bit more experienced than me) and told me that it looks like she's rubbing/pushing against the floor/walls for some reason (he looked at the same pictures i've posted here)

----I'll give y'all some details about her environment conditions----.

i recently switched her substrate to 100% coconut husk. in the near future, i plan to mix it with turba (sphagnum moss).
since I changed her substrate and Voye started her shed cycle (which happened almost simultaneously), she has barely moved to the right side of the tank (the cool/ambient side). she's staying mostly on the warm side. Earlier today, i handled her a bit roughly to check on her, which stressed her out and caused her to take a few very deep/heavy breaths. now it looks like her breathing has been stabilized.

my heat source is an infrared halogen lamp. the warm side currently fluctuates between 18°C - 25°C (64°F - 77°F), with a humidity level of 30% - 50%. however, i strongly suspect this thermohygrometer is broken, so i bought a new one that should arrive later today to verify the actual parameters.

i am wondering if this pouch under her mouth could just be ecdisis fluid buildup from the shedding process, a sign of dehydration, or if i should be worried about an early RI. given my limited access to specialized vets, i want to be extremely careful. should I wait until she fully sheds to see if it goes away?
I really hope this ''thing'' isn't relevant enough. Thanks!!!

PS: i live in Argentina. the availability of safe reptile products and knowledgeable exotic veterinarians here is extremely limited and hard to access.

PS2: i do NOT hear any clicks, wheezing, or popping sounds when she breathes in a relaxed state. i don't see any bubbles or mucus around her mouth or nostrils either.

My corn snake is 4 feet long, and she loves to climb so I got her a 4x2x4 PVC enclosure from Zen habitats. I was looking at lighting and I’m just not 100% sure since the terrarium is so tall. I’d be getting a heating pad for the bottom of the tank. I was looking at Arcadia d3 forest for the UVB, and then an Arcadia halogen flood light, but I’m not sure what wattage.
Also if there are suggestions/tips for these other things that aren’t too expensive: a good thermometer for the basking light, decor (though I have a few things), any live plants + how to take care of them, etc.
I’d really appreciate some help!

My snow motley is 3 months old just had his first feed since moving in took it no problem other than giving him a couple of days to digest do I have anything to look out for

Hi everybody, I have had my first corn snake for almost a year now. I’ve been really insistent with quarantine bc I live in a place where there aren’t lots of exotic pet vets, so her enclosure is just her water bowl, some branches, 2 hides and a humid hide, on top of 6’ of aspen bedding.

Now that I’m ready to move her to a bigger enclosure, I’ve decided I’ll build her a custom 260cmx120cm,180cm tall or ~9ftx4ftx6ft tall. The thing is, I’m scared she may fall from branches that are to high, or just won’t use all the space.

My question to yall is, do you think 180cm is too tall for a 1 year old corn snake?

So sorry that my camera is lowkey terrible @_@ one of them is broken. My snake elote shed on saturday morning and it’s his second shed with me. I don’t know what that cloudly line is, but it looks too straight to be a cut and his shed came out really nicely? It split in two in the tank, but otherwise it came out very nicely. 5th photo shows him vibrant on the upper half of him

Some things worth mentioning:
•he did vomit his two pinky mice on saturday(fed thursday night) as i didn’t know he was going to shed

•we did have an incident where i had to pull him out of a small hole that would have gotten him lost INSIDE my house (this was august 14) and there was no blood ir visible scratch but he did explosively poop on me. (Genuinely i would have done the same thing, not a fun 5 seconds for either of us)

Can someone look at this picture and tell me if you see Pancake? He’s sooooooo good at hiding we can’t see him at all we need expert help.
