Can anyone tell me when
this was made. It was my grandfather’s so probably 30’s? And what is it worth?

Not too sure. Looks no newer than 70s that u with a circle may be a date code. Should be easy enough to google theres tons upon tons of those old tools out there with a loyal following to match

Google AI said that “u with a circle” is 44-48 built by plomb/pennens. Very cool to have a potential “war era” socket set. There’s probably not too many of those I’d imagine all the excess steel went to the effort.

being an old man I can tell you that Sears sold those up until the mid 60's. I started my ownership of tools about 1955 after I graduated from HS and that came with the set. I still have it but don't use it as much and it will be turned over to my grand kids along with the rest of the stuff
