Crane setup

Hi redditors, i saw this video and i took a screen of it, but mostly im really curious of how this is build up can someone tell me, or have a video of it?

U see the Matt's under the tires? Jack up put mats under. Lower outriggers. stack Matt's for outrigger. Rinse and repeat til you can level off.

Or the bit more sketchy version:

Lower outriggers. Lift one outrigger (crane is only standing on three outrigger now) and place wood under it. Lower that outrigger again. Lift the next outrigger, put would under and lower it. Do that until you have wood under all 4. Then lift all 4.

Repeat that until you've climbed to the moon.

This I how you do it, can’t really swing mats under the tires.

They are also about 2ft to high in the back left corner . If it's something this extreme I personally would have the lowest corner just barely an inch off the ground

Had a safety dweeb at kweit write me up for no chocks under the wheels of my picker when they were 2 feet off the ground

I feel you, i had a kiewit safty guy try to write me up for eating my lunch in my work truck without a hard hat and gloves on. I am all about safty but kewit isnt for me.

Ah. If you look at the right rear outrigger it looks like they didnt jack it up at all. They've got an outrigger plate on top of the crane mat, probably shown in what I hope is a PE drawing so they'd have to be on that. My guess is they couldnt get it any lower with how high the rest of them are jacked up.

Hole up... did they not drop the suspension and lock it off? Those tires look way to far away from the fenders, and the outrigger pad looks lower than the tire. I bet that's the problem right there

They definitely used the suspension to help jack that crane up. At this point it doesn't really matter if they dropped the suspension all the way before they locked it lol its not doing them any favors either way.

Honestly it just looks like the outrigger is behind the tire. It's on a single layer of cribbing to make the ground level, and at minimum extension.

TL;DR on this slope that's as close to the ground as they can get the tire

When I had to do this, my back tires were squat on the ground.

Those mats will have been laid like a ramp before crane got there, drive crane up, beams out outriggers down, jack, then stack more timbers under tires if needed, lower, then add more numbers under outriggers, carry on until you can level out

Any concern or calculations made to ensure the friction of the mats on the slope can hold the crane so it doesn't slip out?

Bottom mats look wedged. Don’t have to be exact angle the outriggers have balls for a reason. Weight and gravity do the rest

Myself, I would have a thin rubber mat between the wedges and the pavement.

Frictions all you need for that, only time I’ve heard of that failing is on gravel
