Wondering if anyone knows the story with these kittens that have suddenly started sporadically appearing in my backyard on St. Johns between Nostrand and Rogers? Might someone be looking for them? Does someone take care of them, and if so would they like help accessing free spay/neuter services for them? Feel free to comment here or DM me if preferred!

Back story: On August 20 this curious and sweet black kitten showed up at my window, coming from the yard of a neighboring building. They sat curiously while we watched each other, and approached cautiously when I came outside and "psp psped", but ran away to the yard on the opposite side from where it came when I pushed my luck by extending my hand for pets. Just a few minutes ago the white kitten appeared from the same yard on one side of ours, and followed the same path as the black kitten had into the opposite yard when I came outside.

They seem to not be "feral" necessarily, especially the black one, since they were cautiously interested in a human, though I'm far from an expert here. They also look healthy for strays, but they are not wearing collars. These are the first cats I've seen in the yard in the year that I've lived in this apartment, and given they appear to be about the same age, appeared around the same time, and followed the same path across the yards I think they may be littermates. If someone is caring for these sweet babies I would love to get in touch with them about how I can help get these and any other outside cats they might be caring for to a free/low cost spay/neuter clinic so we can help them stay safe and healthy and help curb the kitten crisis that's currently overwhelming the shelter and rescue community ❤️‍🩹

Two Brooklyn bakers with their own devoted followings are joining forces to open a bakery in Crown Heights.

Carla Finley of Apt. 2 Bread and Megan Wang of Graindead Bread are behind Boots Bread, a new takeaway bakery planned for Nostrand Avenue, where they’re in final lease negotiations for a space.

“Bread to us is really near and dear,” Wang told the Gazette. “It’s how we think about nourishing people, and it’s what we want to bake.”

I saw people inside today. I spoke to one of the owners and he told me that they are going to do a full renovation of the space and they'll be open again (hopefully) this year.

Update: brought to emergency vet as a “Good Samaritan cat”. TIL you can surrender cats in need of medical help as long as you sign a form saying it’s not your own cat. Hoping she will be ok. Thanks all for your input and help.

Ham is an orange boy who was rescued from the Kingston Ave lot between Lincoln Place and St John’s. He’s looking for a forever home and is currently fostered in Ridgewood.
