Bitcoin was designed so nobody can stop you from receiving money. Regulated exchanges are discovering the terrifying flip side: nobody can stop someone from sending it to you either.

12000$ locked on kraken, then charged 100$ to get my own money back

I'm sharing my worst experience with kraken so far, and I'm looking for a new exchange.

I opened my kraken account around 1-2 weeks ago, completed the kyc, completed the AML form, deposited money from a bank account (under my own name), converted part of it to ETH and then made a few trades.

A few days later I deposited more money (again from the same bank account), bought the assets I wanted and then started withdrawing to my cold wallet.

The first withdrawal went through without issue, the second one (it was to the same ethereum address) was suddenly blocked without any reason. I then received an email saying they would contact me "as soon as possible", then, obviously, nothing.

For 7 days, despite opening a ticket and contacting kraken through social media (where my post on krakensupport was even removed) I received no useful or substantive information about either the reason for the restriction or how long the review could take. The only thing support said and repeated was "a specialist will contact you as soon as possible", yet nobody did. Meanwhile the app was showing an estimated specialist response time of around 9 minutes.

This morning kraken finally contacted me (after 8 days), not to resolve the problem but to tell me that my account is being closed without any meaningful reason. I was given 10 days to withdraw the remaining funds, except crypto withdrawals were no longer available, the only option offered was withdrawing fiat back to my bank account. That means I was forced to sell the crypto I had purchased, but the best part comes now, kraken converter charges 1% to convert from crypto to fiat, so I basically lost 100$ on top of the trading costs and losses associated with closing the position.

If you're using kraken mainly to buy crypto and move it into self-custody, be aware that this can happen even after a previous withdrawal to the same wallet has already been completed successfully.

p.s. There was nothing unusual about the source of funds.

- KYC had been completed

- The AML/source-of-funds form and various questions had been completed

- All fiat deposits came by bank transfer (SEPA) from my own bank, under my own name, the same used to create and complete kyc on kraken

- Source of funds verifiable

- The ethereum adddress was my own wallet where kraken had already successfully processed a withdrawal (they saved that address too and they made me verify the wallet to ensure it was mine)

- The existing funds on that wallet were traceable to platforms such as bybit and revolut ramp, with ordinary swaps performed over time. I never used mixers nor services intended to obscure transaction history

NEWS Bitcoin Just Entered the American Mortgage System Without Being Sold.

Bitcoin just entered the U.S. mortgage system.

And the wild part?

The borrower didn’t have to sell the Bitcoin.

BTC became collateral.

The house got financed.

The Bitcoin exposure stayed intact.

This is bigger than “buying a house with Bitcoin.”

It’s Bitcoin evolving from an asset you own into monetary property you can borrow against.

That changes the game.

DISCUSSION The Fed Can Fight Inflation — or Save the Treasury. Bitcoin Wins If It Can’t Do Both.

The Fed wants to fight inflation. The Treasury needs cheaper money.

America’s debt pile is nearing $40 trillion.

Interest costs are exploding.

At some point, something has to give.

And if Washington is forced to choose between protecting the dollar and protecting the debt machine

Bitcoin may be the biggest winner.

That’s the real meaning of fiscal dominance.

And it could become Bitcoin’s most powerful bull case yet.

EXCHANGE Built a cryptocurrency that races against real time instead of hashes, then spent a week trying to prove myself wrong about it

LapseCoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency using a Verifiable Delay Function instead of proof-of-work: block production is a race to finish a sequential computation tied to real elapsed time, not a race for a lucky hash. The reason that's interesting: the measured hardware-advantage gap is much smaller than PoW's (roughly 3-10x from Chia's own 2019 hardware competition on the same construction, versus the 10,000x+ ASICs opened up over commodity hardware), so it doesn't push toward the same energy-spiral PoW did. No premine, fair launch, FALCON-512 signatures for the quantum-resistance angle.

Spent the last week trying to actually break my own design instead of just shipping it. Found and fixed a real bug that was silently crashing part of the test suite, pulled real chain data off my own live node to calibrate assumptions instead of guessing, and went after a threat I originally thought was a real gap: whether one operator running many builder addresses could gain an unfair edge over the network. Turned out, once actually simulated instead of assumed, it barely holds up as a problem at all: running many addresses at the same hardware tier wins exactly proportionally, and splitting one machine's throughput across addresses is worse than running it as one. Neither needed a fix.

More interested in someone finding a real problem than in users right now. If something in there looks wrong, say so.

Node is lightweight, open-source and u can get it running in a minute.

TECHNICALS Wyckoff's three laws still explain most of what actually moves this market, worth understanding before anything else

Supply and demand, cause and effect, effort versus result.

Written over a hundred years ago using ticker tape back then, but candles now and just as relevant, same underlying logic every single time.

A move that takes real effort but produces little actual result, low follow through relative to the size of the push, is one of the more reliable tells that something's about to change, and its right there on the chart for anyone whos actually looked.

Most people skip straight to strategy and never learn to read what a candle and its volume are actually saying together. That gap is usually the real reason strategies that look great in theory fall apart in practice, not the strategy itself.

Support-Open Do you decide when to buy and sell yourself or do you automate it/have a bot do it?

Hello, I'm new and I'm wondering if success in the crypto market is achieved through calculated risks and waiting for the right moment or just using automation to buy and sell on your place or maybe a mixture of both, if yes then how do you approach it?

🚨 The first quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction just hit the mainnet. Are we finally safe from Shor's algorithm?

Not exactly.

StarkWare’s breakthrough is a cryptographic masterpiece, but it’s an 11,000-vByte, GPU-crushing "lifeboat"—not a cure for the network. 🧵👇

TECHNICALS The $130 Million Cold Storage Illusion: What Hardware Wallet Breaches Teach Us About True Sovereign Bitcoin Custody.

Thumbnail
inbitcoinwetrust.substack.com
2 Upvotes

You think your Bitcoin is safe just because your hardware wallet is offline.

$130 million was recently drained from cold storage to prove that assumption wrong.

The brutal truth: a $150 piece of plastic doesn't make you invulnerable. If you secure your wealth with a single 24-word seed phrase, you haven't eliminated your single point of failure — you just moved it.

Attackers aren’t hacking the blockchain anymore. They are exploiting blind signing, compromised supply chains, and physical vulnerabilities.

The era of naive self-custody is over. It's time to build a multi-sig fortress.

Are you still relying on a single device, or have you upgraded your OpSec?

TECHNICALS Nostalgic for a real startup

I have more free time now and I’d like to contribute to projects, especially ones that still feel like a startup.

I’ve been a software developer for almost 10 years. Most of that time was in finance and crypto, since 2017: NFTs, mixers, OTC desks, tokenization, and work across different chains. My strengths are blockchain, low-level optimization, and applied cryptography in fintech. I also have a solid COBOL background.

Current stack: Rust, Go, and OCaml. I get by fine with other languages.

Lately I’ve been shipping on-demand modules for projects I never saw as a whole and had no real stake in. It works, but I miss the startup days. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but that’s the environment I actually like working in.

If you need someone to get their hands dirty (backend, infra, crypto, legacy systems, or whatever the hard problem is right now), DM me.

Note: I’m not looking for freelance gigs or a job. I want the startup vibe again, with a full board, a small team, and a real problem. Compensation isn’t the main thing. What matters is actually contributing.

DISCUSSION What do you dislike about crypto paper trading?

For anyone who has used crypto paper-trading platforms, I'm curious about your experience.

What do you find frustrating or unrealistic compared with actually trading on an exchange?

Especially interested in hearing from experienced traders:

  • What features are missing?
  • What feels unrealistic?
  • What would you change?
  • Is there anything existing platforms make unnecessarily difficult?

I'm trying to understand what makes a paper-trading experience genuinely useful, so I'd appreciate honest opinions.
