Discussion the cheater issue will never be solved.
Yes, valve has been slack but i don’t think understand how insane the cs2 cheat cat and mouse game is. CS is one of the only games where people are able to make a literal living out of developing hacks. Cheating is so popular in the cs community that no matter what valve does, it will always be around. If you ask a hacker in any game what got them into cheating, i can almost guarantee they started from counter strike. there is such a big culture around it and it will never go away. heck HVH (hacker vs hacker) was literally birthed through counter strike and literally remains one of the most popular subcategories of the game. HVH is just a competition of who can make the best cheats, probably a horrible thing for valve to not deal with lol. I genuinely beleive it’s not the anticheat that’s the cause for all the cheaters, it’s rather just the popularity of cheating in the videogame. ofc a more advanced anticheat would help, even just implementing something as simple as an ip and hardware ban system, which would force cheaters to spoof and use a vpn making them less motivated to cheat. but ultimately they will still always be around.

best part is, aside from the obvious cheating problem, ranks don’t mean shit either
Whenever I get those few clean games when playing casually on Comp instead of Premiere I face 4-stacks of people with red Premiere badge and faceit lvl 10. this is on gold nova comp overpass for example
They then - suprise suprise - stomp the game and feel superior because apparently they can’t cut it on their designated rank and have to do sealclubbing in low ranks to blow off steam I guess? So when you FINALLY get a clean Lobby in any fucking mode you are Welcome by Toxic fucking regards smurfing. Can’t wait for This Game to eat shit and never recover

They are not even trying. It's a complete joke. No one is getting banned. Every game is filled to the brim with cheaters. You can join deadmatch server at prime time and it's 80% case farm bots and they loop sounds through voice now which makes it even worse.
It's a full blown disaster where any decently run company would have an all hands meeting how to salvage the situation.
Obviously it will never be completely fixed. But there is a difference between occasionally having a fly in your house and letting multiple bodies decompose inside until the whole place is filled with pests and the rot takes down the entire building.

The worst part is knowing the cheaters won’t get banned

they do that on purpose. cs has been implementing ban waves recently because it makes it hard for people to find what was detectable in their cheat.

I guess it’s a pipe dream that competitive games will ever really be competitive.

It's sad what cs has come to. Playing cs2 used to be one of the few things I used to love about my life now I just watch eSports

im pretty sure the entire point of training ML models as cheat detection is because its the only way to tackle the problem at scale. valve is against kernel-level access so we'll ignore that. how else is a few hundred employee company supposed to stay ahead of the insane pace at which cheats are developed? the answer certainly isn't to keep manually iterating on an anticheat, and you can't just spend a bunch of money hiring a bunch of random devs to try to make an anticheat.

The cherry on top is Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Seige is the #1 game and company banning cheaters. Which is hilarious that ubisoft is winning at something. They publically said f cheaters and are sending real updates. Then Riot Games Valorant is next with vanguard. From the looks of it the least of valves worries is the cheating, as the dev team is small so updates have been slow and not much at all. Valve probably doesnt see much in CS2 Anymore besides Gambling, sorry case openings.
