CS50 Python 'import <filename> fails', but 'from <filename> import <functionname>' does not work

1 Upvotes

I'm trying the test plates scenario.

from plates import is_valid <-- this one works
import plates <-- this one fails

I'm not using both at the same time, I'll comment one or the other out.

Both the plates file and the test_plates file are in the same directory.

I am calling main at the bottom of my plates file as follows:

if __name__ == "__main__":
    main()

Any suggestions on why this is occurring would be appreciated.

CS50 Python Is taking the CS50 Harvard class helpful for DA?

6 Upvotes

I’m currently looking for certifications or anything that could help advance my skills and knowledge and possibly help me become a better candidate for more projects across platforms. Has anyone taken this course or any other courses they suggest??

lectures When will the 2027 lectures start?

I know they usually post the unedited live versions on YouTube first during the fall and then post the edited version in January. When do they usually start posting the live lectures?

CS50x I FINISHED TIDEMAN

29 Upvotes

I did CS50 up to week 5 but then dropped about 2 months ago. Last week I decided to restart the course so I rewatched every Section and redid some of the exercises. When I first got through Week 3 I tried Tideman but after a few hours without any progress I gave up. Yesterday I decided to try it again before redoing Week 4 and with a total time of around 4 to 5 hours I finally finished it. Damn I feel SO GOOD

CS50x Week5 Data structures, nodes

2 Upvotes

Sorry but i just watched the whole thing 3 times and get lost.

Can someone help me by making things simple or give me a link to an explanation video that is simpler and easy to understand.

I tried my best but i get lost.

I only understood the first lines of creating a linked list :

deftype struct node

{ datatype "name";

struct node *next;

} node;

The rest of the lines i just dont understand what they are doing and i dont want to copy paste them just like that even if all of that is goijg to be done under the hood in week 6 by pyhton.

Please help!

hello! just wanted to share my cs50p final project i made last year :DD

it's a TUI for bulk file renaming built for myself.

it just got around 50 stars on github and 9k downloads on pypi.

hoping this inspires ppl here to build TUIs and small tools others might find useful (a project that may outlive the course)

CS50x Is having CS50 final projects in public GitHub repositories, during and after development, acceptable?

This is not only for CS50x but the other courses as well. I’ve seen conflicting answers for this question. Most say that is it but I’ve also seen this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cs50/posts/3002695973210761/

I created a game that takes students on a journey to solve problems. I’m focusing on making problem-solving more fun and engaging for students.

It’s called CompileRoad.com.

Would love to hear your feedback!

CS50 Python Accidentally skipped Week 0 form

4 Upvotes

I didn't realise week 0 or the form existed (despite currently being on week 5).

Is it an issue that I filled the form in and completed the problem set now rather than before?

(sorry if this is a silly question)

CS50 Python CS50P Finally Complete !!

Post image
89 Upvotes

After 1 year (Problems Set + Final Project) i have got the certificate of completion.

My project :

Retentia is a Python CLI application based on spaced repetition, somewhat in the spirit of Anki. The goal is simple: to help you better retain what you learn by automatically scheduling reviews at the right time—all within the terminal.

With Retentia, you can:

- create question/answer flashcards;
- review flashcards when they are due;
- rate the difficulty of a flashcard after each review;
- automatically calculate the next review using FSRS;
- search for, edit, or delete flashcards;
- view statistics on your flashcards and review sessions;
- use the app either via an interactive menu or directly through terminal commands.

If you’d like to contribute, feel free to do so.
