Announcement Important dates and resources for CUNY students

Hey everyone, as the fall semester is right around the corner I figured that I should post these links for new and current students.

The academic calendar has been posted for Fall through Spring 25-26. CUNY follows the same academic calendar meaning your days off should all be the same. You will have random days where Tuesdays follow a Monday schedule, Fridays will follow a Monday schedule, etc. Try your best to plan ahead.

https://www.cuny.edu/academics/academic-calendars/

CUNY also has resource centers to help you succeed. CUNY offers food pantries, housing assistance, emergency funds, mental health resources and other resources. Please use these resources if you need them. CUNY can help but you as students need to be proactive in seeking these resources.

https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/student-affairs/programs-services/cuny-resource-centers/

If you require accommodations, ask for them via your school's Office of Student Disability Services. Reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, providing the student with assistive technology or other auxiliary aides, extra time for tests or papers, access to an elevator where available, a note taker during lectures, or permission to bring a personal aide to assist the student during class.

Fall 2026 Class Swap — LaGuardia CC

Hey everyone! I’m looking to swap one of my Fall 2026 classes for a Saturday section.

Currently enrolled:

SCP231 General Physics — LEC 648, Section 57261

Tue & Thu, 5:45–7:55 PM — Session 1

SCC201 General Chemistry — LEC 812, Section 3774

Mon–Fri, 5:45–9:45 PM — Session 2

I’m hoping to switch either to:

SCP231 LEC 647 — Saturday

or

SCC201 LEC 641 — Saturday

If you’re enrolled in either Saturday section and are interested in swapping, please DM me!

I’ve already tried contacting the professors but haven’t had any luck. If I can switch, I’ll be able to add another class this semester, so it would really help me out šŸ™

You can also email me: reallyhappy202332@gmail.com

Thanks! šŸ™Œ

CCNY Need advice!!! Academic Probation

Hi, I’m really in need of advice desperately and I’m coming here. I’m actually on my second semester at City College of New York, but the thing is spring semester I went through a lot of personal challenges in my life. So unfortunately, I got placed on academic probation. So now I decided I do want to go back. I I believe September 3 is the last day to add classes I haven’t been advised for my classes yet or my schedule. What exactly would you do if you were me. I take 100% responsibility I’ve put myself in this situation. So please do not try to shame me or lecture me like I just need actual advice. I know how this is not good but I don’t know how I can and should I fix this?

Hunter vs. CCNY for Pre-Med — Transfer Student for 2027, Which Would You Choose?

• Upvotes

Hi guys! I have a really big confusion that I’ve been thinking about for almost half a semester, and I would really appreciate some honest advice from current or former CUNY students.

I’m currently a LaGuardia Community College student with a 4.0 GPA, and I’m planning to transfer for 2027. My ultimate goal is medical school, and honestly, I’m aiming for top-tier/Ivy League medical schools.

I’m mainly deciding between Hunter College and City College (CCNY).

If I go to CCNY, I’m planning to major in Biomedical Engineering. If I go to Hunter, I would probably pursue Biology/Neuroscience-related studies. Academically, I’m comfortable with both. I’m strong in mathematics and biology, good at memorization, and I enjoy critical thinking, so I don’t think the difficulty of either major would be a major problem for me.

The reason I’m interested in BME at CCNY is that my long-term medical interests are very specific: orthopedic surgery or interventional radiology. I’m interested in implant design, medical devices, imaging, and research, so BME seems like it could connect well with those interests.

However, one thing that concerns me about CCNY is that the pre-health committee letter has been discontinued. From what I understand, students now have to obtain individual recommendation letters themselves. Is this actually a significant disadvantage for someone trying to get into top medical schools, or is it basically not a big deal if you build strong relationships with professors, research mentors, and physicians?

Hunter seems to have a very strong pre-med culture, and I’ve heard that many Hunter students go on to schools such as Columbia, Harvard, Cornell, and NYU Grossman. I’ve also heard that Hunter has very dedicated pre-med students and strong advising/resources.

On the other hand, I’ve heard that Hunter classes can fill very quickly and that the coursework can be extremely rigorous. I’m also concerned about course registration as a transfer student. I won’t be entering through Macaulay Honors College, and because of my circumstances I wasn’t able to attend an honors college earlier. If I transfer with around 26 credits and a 4.0 GPA, are there any honors programs, priority registration opportunities, or other options available to transfer students at Hunter?(I do not think so)

I also really love research. From what I’ve seen, CCNY seems to have a lot of research opportunities because of its science and engineering programs, but I’m not sure how that compares with Hunter in practice.

So, for someone in my situation, which would you choose: Hunter or CCNY?

I would especially appreciate advice from current/former students who have actually gone through the pre-med process at either school. If possible, please explain why you would choose one over the other—especially regarding:

Medical school admissions

Pre-med advising

Research opportunities

Clinical/shadowing opportunities

Recommendation letters

Course registration

GPA protection

Opportunities for leadership

Success of graduates getting into highly ranked medical schools

I’m not looking for someone to simply say ā€œHunter is betterā€ or ā€œCCNY is better.ā€ I’d really appreciate some detailed, logical advice based on actual experience.

Thank you!

Question Dropping a class?

I am attending bmcc as a freshman

I have a class that I forgot I wanted to drop till I saw it on my schedule for today

It doesn't have anything to do with my major

I want to drop it

But I gotta know

Is doing so free? Google says is free. How will it affect my financial aid? I have tap and fafsa I'm not trying to change it. In trying to drop it.

Reason: I email the prof twice and didn't get a response like I did with my other profs. They responded fairly quick to my questions except this one prof. He feels unreliable. Plus I realized I could use the extra free time to study. Maybe work. I also need time for therapy and physical therapy (I have scoliosis)

Do I even rrly need a reason?

Tldr: can I drop a non course necessary class for free and how will it affect me?

Question Transfer Transcript Confusion

• Upvotes

So I'm looking to transfer to other cuny colleges from the one I'm currently at in the future, I know I need to submit a transfer application but I'm confused on the transcript part.

Theres no section in the application to send or request my official transcript to be sent to the other colleges so how do I make sure it gets sent to them?

Do I email it to them manually or what is the process?

I called my colleges registrar earlier and they were very dismissive and just told me something about parchment. I think they wanted me to email my transcript to the other colleges via that website but I honestly could not understand them well.

Overall, I had a not so good experience with the departments at my college so I just don't want to bother trying to get in touch with them as much.

If someone could help me out in the comments and/or dm I would greatly appreciate it

CSI CSI wifi?

i’m epermitting a general chemistry course at CSI this semester as a current hunter student and i’m having some trouble connecting to the wifi — could anyone please share how to connect if i’m not a CSI student? i’m using the guest wifi for now but it’s not ideal especially with not even being able to connect to data on some parts of campus.

also — thinking of transferring over to CSI from hunter for the spring semester as i’m only trying to take prereqs to apply for PA school (i already have a bachelor’s), any current or graduated students recommend? or should i stick to hunter? the strict pre-health sequencing at hunter is the main thing pushing me to transfer since i want to complete my prereqs before september 2027, and i’m not too confident i’ll be able to do so at hunter.

any help/advice is greatly appreciated! happy fall semester, good luck to everyone :)

I was wondering if anyone has yet to get their Book Advance due to a hold ā€œDo Not Refundā€ on their account? I attend Baruch, first semester I’ve gotten this hold weirdly.

I was charged on 8/24; still hasn’t hit the refund column bc of it, just wondering if anyone is in the same position? Currently waiting on a response from Bursars office.. Not sure what to do.

my course didn’t count for my degree and i need to vent

i just went to my degree-works and i just found out a class i took last semester no longer is counted towards my degree. i cried over this class. i dedicated 20+ hours a week study for it because it was that difficult to pass. i endured being belittle by my professor and being call me stupid. i got an A in the course but that is because i had no life for the duration of it. i cut my works hours and the fact that non of it counts feels like a stab in the back.

thank you for reading and i encourage you all to check your degree works.

Edit : guys my advisor sucks and i only have four my classes till i graduate this semester. i also work full time now and they don’t have meeting availability for the times i do. thank you for your advice and letting me vent :)

Hi! Has anyone done BMCC CUNY's Medical Assistant program, and what was your experience like? I spoke with a very nice and helpful man named Cory who answered all my questions, but I would love to hear from someone who has personally done the program. Thank you!

Question Looking for advice.

Hello! I’m finally getting serious about returning to school. I was a biology major that didn’t finish his undergraduate because Covid and life, and I’ve got credits from SUNY purchase and SCCC. I’d like to finish my biology degree with the hope of working in some sort of environmental science program. (Habitat restoration, land surveys, resource management, wetland conservation stuff). It seems like Brooklyn College has the best program for what I’d be doing, Hunters biology program seems more like premed focused. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you :)
