Change it to "exile five artifacts you control" and you can print it.

"Nontoken"

Making even 5 treasures is no small feat and you either worked for it with cheap spells or your mana is so good you kind lf dont care anyways

61

u/SteakForGoodDogs 18h ago

Also 5 treasures would just straight up pay for a [[Timeless Lotus]] anyway.

u/Whydoughhh 16h ago

Yeah 5 treasures is Magda

Food and blood are easy to make in abundance

Why not "As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice 5 artifacts."

69

u/xahhfink6 16h ago

Cause then you find it with Urzas saga

2

u/Treacherous_Peach 9h ago

Aka lose the game to a counterspell

6

u/BreakerOfModpacks 16h ago

Can't you just have it as an additional cost?

[[Urza’s Saga]]

-15

u/1ftm2fts3tgr4lg 14h ago

It'd still be entering and would initiate the sacrifice requirement though, right?

16

u/ScrungoZeClown 14h ago

If its an additional cost (to cast the spell), then it wouldnt apply since urza doesnt cast the spell, ot just places the artifact on the battlefield

2

u/hyper_neutrino 14h ago

Not if it's an additional cost (to cast). Could make it an ETB trigger but then you can Stifle that which brings us back to having it be a replacement effect to avoid that.

u/vampiricslorp 15h ago

[[Urza's saga]] then gets it for free

I’m sure I’m missing a rule or obvious loophole, but wouldn’t “ETB sacrifice five artifacts” work - it sacrifices itself if you have <5 other artifacts.

I guess you could hack it with “things you control enter untapped” and “you can’t sacrifice things” effects. But is that so broken?

u/vampiricslorp 15h ago

It would work but would be a lot easier to break, [[stifle]] gets around it for example. This way it doesn't put anything on the stack, harder to avoid.

u/slaymaker1907 10h ago

I think you can still Stifle this as it reads as a triggered ability.

4

u/vampiricslorp 10h ago

It's a replacement effect (as a rule if something like this uses the word "would" it's a replacement effect)

u/Spiritual-Spend76 1h ago

I believe you can tap its mana ability instantly and without counterplay while it’s ETB is being resolved on the stack. Makes jt the best lotus metal ever seen.

Blue land, The Moxen, Stifle?

37

u/hyper_neutrino 18h ago

You can't Stifle replacement effects

6

u/WargasKitar 17h ago

Oh, good to know, thank you!

u/weiss5193 10h ago

You could save a line of text by just stipulating that it enters tapped as part of the initial replacement effect ("If you do, put The Moxen onto the battlefield tapped").

Don't listen to anyone saying that this is too powerful though. This is harder to cheat in than a Timeless Lotus and that thing isn't even close to overpowered.

This card and timeless lotus are completely different cards. Timeless lotus is just a value card. The moment would be a card that you use while comboing.

u/SMBroos 5h ago

Probably would be immediate include on my cloud Ex soldier deck.

5 artifacts is a lot. I think this should enter untapped.

11

u/mullerjones 17h ago

With the amount of clues, treasures, food and other nonsense you can make, 5 artifacts isn’t that absurd, specially when this costs 0.

4

u/retardong 16h ago

I mean this is much weaker than [[Time Sieve]] when it enters untapped and that is not a played card. Its pretty much unplayable when it enters tapped.

2

u/theevilyouknow 17h ago

Wouldn't you just be better off playing Urza at that point though?

-1

u/BigBandit01 15h ago

5 treasures and this is indistinguishable from a [[Timeless Lotus]]

1

u/VelphiDrow 6h ago

Except for being tutorabke off urza's saga

0

u/BigBandit01 4h ago

True, so this is still better if you have 5 to sacrifice

1

u/retardong 15h ago

Timeless Lotus is a terrible card.

0

u/BigBandit01 15h ago

And? It’s a card that exists nonetheless. The Moxen can subvert that 5 mana value cost by not using treasures. It can be anything. The Moxen is already stronger than Timeless Lotus, it doesn’t need to enter untapped.

0

u/retardong 15h ago

Sacrificing 5 artifacts is a much higher cost than tapping 5 mana. The time you get 5 artifacts the mana boost wont have a huge effect on the game. At least when it is un tapped you can actually use it in some fast artifact strategy to drop something big before it eats Abrade.

0

u/VelphiDrow 6h ago

No it really isnt. Sacing 5 treasures is trivial

-1

u/BigBandit01 15h ago edited 15h ago

It’s literally not. Five treasures is five mana, and in any deck that already cares about having lots of expendable artifacts, you want them to go away. If you can’t sacrifice five token artifacts in the current meta then you’re genuinely better off running Timeless Lotus.

If you’re talking about for hyper competitive modern or standard, then you will literally never see a 0 mana artifact that taps for 5 come into play untapped without some kind of setup.

Edit: nice edit, if you’re genuinely that worried about abrade, just run Amulet of Vigor. If you get two of them, oops one of them can just get eaten. Cry about it.

The wording looks very clunky...
Something like this may be better:
"As The Moxen enters you may sacrifice five artifacts. If you don't, sacrifice The Moxen."
Using the word "as" creates a static ability generating a replacement effect: don't worry, this effect won't use the stack and you couldn't respond to it.

16

u/RazorOfArtorias 18h ago

It's the wording of [[Mox Diamond]] and [[Lake of the Dead]]. Based on the feedback.

-12

u/Gigadrax 18h ago

Those are both pretty old, the more modern wording is "when ~ enters sacrifice it unless [some form of cost]"

14

u/RazorOfArtorias 17h ago

It's worded this way to avoid tricks with the enters trigger.

-2

u/kytheon Design like it's 1999 17h ago

Sure but they also enter tapped anyway.

6

u/hyper_neutrino 14h ago

Turn 1 Island Moxen Stifle would still be way too strong regardless of it entering tapped.

2

u/Sad-Pattern-1269 17h ago

"If" means it's a replacement trigger, which is stricter than "when X enters"

-1

u/SharpDrink2724 3h ago

Only playable in WUBRG decks. As if they need any more help lol.

-2

u/Lartnestpasdemain 10h ago

"If moxen would enter the Battlefield, you can concede the game. If you don't you lose the game."

This way it should be hard to bypass
