Came here to say this. Agreed

112

u/Hebrew_Hammer24 1d ago

Same literally went from just day-to-day normal things that normal hunters go after like run of the mill monsters to getting a little intense cause they now are fighting actual demons…to the ending of literally fighting God.

Like not just any “God” because they also fought other Gods as well. No, I mean the literal creator God. Not to mention taking out most of the literal biblical creatures that are written to be part of revelation, ie. Death incarnate, the other 3 horsemen, God‘s sister which is the primordial darkness and the antithesis of Gods light itself, The archangels, Satan, the biblical Leviathans, taking on the mother of all monsters, including all the primogenitor of each monster species, a.k.a. the alphas, and so on. Like past season five it goes to 0 to 100 pretty quickly. Then out of nowhere past season 9 it turns that dial up to 1000.

At a certain point near the end past season 9 or 10; they’re also trying to raise the literal fully grown but still childlike antichrist and turn him from his predetermined path of being said antichrist to the pseudo second coming of Christ and the literal replacement and successor to God.

32

u/Vryk0lakas 1d ago

I can’t decide if I should rewatch this or not. I watched like 10 years ago and ended somewhere around a special revolver.

31

u/Lockmasock CERTIFIED DANK 23h ago

Oh god you’re barely even started on the journey

8

u/kismaiyes 22h ago

Just stop it at the end of season 5 and a small part of the ending to be just a hallucination.

2

u/Hebrew_Hammer24 10h ago

Fucken hated the ending. Should’ve stopped it at the second to last episode. The actual last episode ruined it. So stupid. Just for anyone who wants to watch it. It’s honestly a 8-9/10 show. It does have its ups and downs and filler episodes in each season. Some plot holes and forgotten plot elements. But overall it’s one hell of a binge watching ride. Just for the sake of yourselves only watch to the second to last episode of season 15. Do not watch the actual last episode. It is really a let down and a stupid way to go. Ruins the atmosphere. Won’t talk about it anymore cause of spoilers.

(I know it’s been years but it’s the type of show anyone can get into at any time and still get spoiled).

And yet it ends with them getting in a fist fight with god

88

u/GayPudding 1d ago

If you like shows about punching god in the face watch Preacher.

16

u/Sparkando 1d ago

The ending of preacher was something else, the first seasons were awesome and then it went a pathway I did not expect

13

u/GayPudding 1d ago

I never expected the show to actually tie everything together in the end, I did not think that was possible.

5

u/Sparkando 1d ago

It felt a little rushed but the show is very enjoyable otherwise, might give it a rewatch someday

3

u/GayPudding 1d ago

Amazon did cut their timeline down unexpectedly, so they had to rush. That's why I was so surprised.

That series needs a FMA Brotherhood type reboot -- it going on for 20 seasons after derailing the apocalypse in season 6 had their jumped sharks jumping sharks.

4

u/AfricanAmericanMage 1d ago

My girlfriend's son has started watching it recently. I've never seen it and he was on season 6 and I was just asking him questions about what was going on and he said they were stopping the apocalypse and all I could think was that I knew this show had, like, 10 more seasons after that and was wondering how in the world they could keep upping the stakes after stopping the literal end of the world.

3

u/DukeLukeivi DankityDunk 1d ago

The season outro is a prophet of God doing an epilogue about how hard endings are, and all the loose ends and things...

They took an editorial sign off there, and then just kept going as long as they got renewed.

A Supernatural Brotherhood reboot would be goated, I swear.

Obvious answer would be dragonball

342

u/DaEnderAssassin Enter Meme Here 1d ago

Yep. Especially given its second arc ended in a fighting tournament and eventually Super ended up fighting literal gods.

65

u/SnarkFucker 1d ago

When a core concept of a series is power levels, it needs to go to insane places to keep raising the stakes.

5

u/OneSidedPolygon 16h ago

power levels are a midpoint thing. Incidentally it's also when the shark skatepark of tever more powerful villains kicks in. Befoe King Piccolo the escalating factor was skill.

The funny part is that they never abandon the car aspect. They stop a nuclear submarine, using cars. They go to space, using cars. They skydive, using cars

The writers are willing to change everything about the franchise, except for the fact that it's the car movie

The 100 fits this perfectly. The last couple seasons are completely outrageous

87

Indeed, quite remarkable how every season got crazier than the one before it.

I should make work of reading the books at some point.

56

The book has nothing to do with the series, they just use the same basic premise and character names

Remember Zabuza and Haku? On rewatch, That fight feels like it’s from a whole different show after seeing everything later on. Also the way we wildly boosted everyone later makes Zabuza look like a grunt in retrospect lol. Dude’s a full grown adult in his prime and is like half a Kisame. Also the way weaving signs could take like a full minute of different shapes before casting basic jutsu even for high level shinobi early on makes everyone later feel like some kind of demigod prodigy that can grab two fingers and spawn a house, three intelligent dogs, and a small moon on the battlefield.

13

u/coolios14 1d ago

Yeah there's gotta be a fine line when it comes to ninjas being subtle and sneaky somewhere between using spiritual energy to cover your tracks, to fighting using giant eye power or wooden gundam mechs

4

u/CleverInnuendo 1d ago

3

u/LiteraCanna 1d ago

Just binged this a couple weekends ago. First night I fell asleep and when I woke up, I thought it had changed to a different anime altogether.

3

u/TimerPoint 1d ago

I recommend reading the Manhwa/Webcomic. It gets stupidly over the top in a entertaining way. The problem with the anime was that they tried so hard squeezing in 100 chapters that they cut a lot of stuff.

Gurren Lagann

3

u/franoetico 1d ago

THIS is the only valid answer. Nothing scales like this show.

25

u/mrdreka 1d ago

But that show starts by showing people getting ready to fight using a gigantic mecha in space, so that doesn’t fit the meme

59

u/SmokingTanuki 1d ago edited 20h ago

C'mon, Gurren-Lagann is something like 10m tall in the beginning and the show ends with mechas throwing galaxies as throwing stars. Propotionally the scaling is even bigger than the OP's post.

→ More replies (1)

18

u/AfricanAmericanMage 1d ago

Yea that show went off the rails immediately. Right from the very beginning it was honest about what it was and what it was trying to do.

Side note: For anyone who hasn't watched Gurren Lagann please do. As someone who really does not enjoy mecha anime, in general, it is one of my favorite animes of all time, full stop.

Naruto. From ninjas to aliens

12

u/Forgetheriver 1d ago

Hold up what

14

u/cpMetis 1d ago

The power ramp up at the tail end of the Naruto and Shippuden is absurd. Then they reveal it's all because alien (the whole story has lots of references to traditional Japanese stories, and they decided to end with the woman from the moon and for some reason decided this meant it all started with an alien).

It's mostly ignorable in Naruto since it only matters for one character and you can kinda just pretend she's like a foreigner or something and nothing really changes.

But then... Boruto.

It's like the entire plot of Boruto. Like there are dozens of these aliens and they're all OP and their drama is now our drama.

13

You have to look at the whole series, but Doctor Who went from fun little sci-fi flavored mysteries in its original run to everything from 2005 onwards upping the ante on saving the Earth, Universe, Multiverse, Time Itself, The Doctor turning out to be the most important being ever... it's ludicrous and exhausting now

Arcane, from stealing shit to fighting a god-like figure

91

u/Fallen_Liberator 1d ago

Well it is League of Legends. Wilder stuff has happened in that universe

15

u/d0pe-asaurus 1d ago

Unlike Gurenn Fucking Lagann and (shudders) Darling in the Franxx which also fought a space god in Season 2, completely out of nowhere.

At least Arcane can fall back on the pre established lore of runeterra lol

I had a guy tell me I didn’t appreciate darling in the franxx because I didn’t understand its symbolism. it took everything I had not to have an aneurysm

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Ry_Sy 1d ago

Which is why it should've stayed as a more lowkey story. There's already so many world ending threats in League of Legends, they didn't need to add another. Piltover/Zaun is exactly the region that should be more grounded and personal.

Also, it's their first animated show and I'm pretty sure they plan on making more. Starting off with a world ending threat makes it hard to build up to something bigger.

2

u/Ghostbreak4 1d ago

Agree, then again, it went wild just because they didn't focus on one narrative, and if they did, it wouldn't be what Arcane is today

22
