Doctor said -600 grams. Time for a diet!!

Working on trying to dechonk one of my cats. I already have a PetLibro automatic feeder, but can only do 2 servings because it dispenses way too much. I want to be able to do 4 very small servings throughout the day.

Has anyone found a way to make it do less? It’s already on the smallest portion but it’s still too much

Hey there! I have two lovely boy cats and one is very healthy while the other is very much a chonk. They have an auto feeder that dispenses 1/2 cup of dry food into two bowls and I feed them a full can of wet food in two feedings. They will run excitedly when I prepare the food, but often will waltz away and come back to eat. The small cat eats very minimal at a time but will come back to eat more at another time.

It is very hard to feed them separately wheny small cat won't eat his food in one sitting. I usually have to leave food out to ensure small cat gets enough food. Advice appreciated!

I have considered the microchip feeders but unfortunately cannot afford their large price tag right now. If there are any other ideas I would love to hear them!

Trying to dechonk my senior cat she usually eats 3 times a day (got her some senior purina food) but I’m sure it’s not a good amount. I’ve tried an automatic feeder in the past and it didn’t work, is there a scoop somewhere for a proper portion servings too? Thanks

He had his yearly check up and everything is fine except hes overweight.

My selfish entitled baby boy would eat all his food, then push the other cats away to eat their food. He got overweight. So now im feeding the other 2 in a separate room, and the selfish baby boy is pooping on the floor when he NEVER did that before.

Hes on the diet. Its happening. But he is NOT happy about it.

How can i stop this???

I feed him the recommended portion but the dogs bring him their food. (I'm not joking I think they're "scared" of him 🤣)

Tried giving her like 4 kinds of wet food. She would nibble at bit and then walk away.

Spent the most time with Turkey baby food. I added water and she lapped up most of the water but left the solid matter.

She even turned away from.the Friskies she was eagerly consuming before I left for work around 2.

Got home around 1030 to 11. She touched none of the dry or the treats either.

Shes going into that leave me alone mode.

Should i be worried.

Her weight dropped from 11.1 to 10.75.

I feel so helpless.

She just had a weigh-in at the dermatologist (she's had some allergy issues, which made fine-tuning her diet extra fun) and was certified dechonk. Photos are from adoption day, July of last year, and July of this year, when she was kind enough to strike the exact same pose for a comparison photo.

My guy has been on a diet for about a year and a half, he lost some weight at first, then stopped so I lowered his portions more. The past few months have been hectic so I wasn't paying attention to weighing him, but he's looking quite chubby again, eating less than he ever has.

Is this worth a vet visit, or just the result of middle age/ dieting slowing his metabolism?

Before he got put on diet he weighed 7.6 kg and a couple weeks later he weighed 7.7 kg and he gets 42 grams of dry food a day and 85 grams off wet food daily (half a can in the morning and the rest in the evening). The food was recommended by our vet

Ripley started his dechonk 10 months ago. He dropped 1 1/2 pounds in 6 months (with a lot of up and down), then bounced up a half pound and is now back to his lowest point at 15.25 pounds. Vet is okay with him at 15-15.5, as he is naturally a very big boi. I’m keeping him around 175 calories a day on Royal Canin Satiety Support wet food and treats. I just don’t understand why his weight bounces around so much. He gets no hard food, except for the diet treats, because he is a kibble junkie. All meals have to be supervised, because he will inhale his food and try to shove his sister away from hers before she’s done. Clearly he thinks he is skin and bones right now.

My girl weighs 12 lbs and turned 12 this summer. I can’t tell if she’s actually overweight or just built like a fluffy throw pillow. Overall she’s a very happy cat and is so cuddly, just loves food lol. She moves around easily and has been about this size her whole life, but I want her to stay healthy and live as long as possible while still being happy. Would a dechonking journey be worth discussing with her vet?

one of my cats is overweight and we have tried everything to help her lose it but she constantly just eats from our others cats bowl. does anyone have any tips on how to put a cat on a diet or stop her from stealing from the other cat?
i was thinking of keeping their bowls in separate rooms but im afraid she might just keep going back and forth

Hey y’all! This is my cat August- he’s around 3 or 4 and is 16 lbs.. I got him from a humane society, but I’m pretty sure he’s a Russian blue? Anyways- I’m wondering if he needs to go on a diet. I think he does, but it’s kinda difficult because I have a 3 to 5 kitty household.. (1 strictly in an attic apt, 3 on my floor, and 1 downstairs that sometimes comes to the second floor).
Meal time can be challenging because I have my two older cats, October and August, share one bowl of food at 9am, 7pm, and a half a bowl at around 12pmish. I switched to them eating from a single bowl bc August would always finish his bowl and go to push her away from hers and eat it too. She doesn’t eat nearly as much, but I feel like since switching to a single bowl he leaves some for her & she also takes turns with him when they’re both eating. - I also have a new kitten and we haven’t quite got feeding down for all of em because my October tries to eat his kitten food sometimes.
Do y’all have any suggestions that could maybe help me out? I really want microchip feeders, but can’t afford them atm, and can’t really supervise mealtime because of my work schedule. I also try to play with them all, but August gets pretty tired out quickly/isn’t nearly as interested in playing. I do have a vet apt upcoming and was also wondering if there’s any tests I should specifically ask for just in case he has something health related as to why he is a bit chonky!

My 2 yr old kitty is getting fat! She has hip dysplasia so i want to make sure she’s a healthier weight! But she has such a sensitive tummy and gets backed up really easy. I’ve been feeding her purina sensitive skin and stomach and wet blue buffalo food and those have seemed to work well for her. But i’m not sure if i should try a diet food? Or would measuring her food more precisely help? because i could accidentally be over feeding her, she’s not super lazy.

I apologize if this is redundant- (Ive read the pinned post many times!) but Im really having trouble coming up with a number. Every calculator gives slightly different numbers based on the same data. My big boy squid weighed in at 17.4lbs and 7/8 bcs at the vet and was recommended 15lb as a starting weight goal, but I was given very little information on how to get him there (I was basically told read the side of the food bag.) He currently eats ~300cal per day between wet & dry (setting up a timed feeder as we speak for more accurate portioning!) I was planning to reduce him to 275, but some sites recommend as low as 230. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I just want to do right by my boy!!

The first picture is from October, when Yoda was I think around 15 lbs. I took his weight a few weeks ago (around when the second picture was taken) and he measured out to 11.5 lbs!

The steps I took were 1) Getting him an auto feeder, 2) gradually over months reducing the portion sizes, now at 50g daily. and 3) leash training him, and taking him for daily walks around the hallways of our apartment complex.

I'm so proud of him (and me!).

Progress after about a month.

Took my Beverly to the vet and I guess she’s too chonk at 16 pounds. Time to start her weight loss journey! Goal is 12 pounds. She is gonna be mad at me for changing up her food🤣
