Teaser for "Denton, Texas," a film I plan on making next year!

Synopsis: on the day leading up to party, the lives of dozens of twenty-somethings living in Denton, Texas, are explored.

Inspirations:

- "Nowhere" from 1997

- "The Rules of Attraction," from 2003

- Mitski's 2023 album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We.

- The friends and experiences I had living in Denton, as well as the ups and downs, successes, failures, and mistakes I made in my 20s 🙃

Still a long way to go with making it, but for some strange, crazy reason, I believe it will happen!

EDIT: This is less of a teaser and more of a proof-of-concept teaser - idk why I had such a hard time discerning between the two 🙈

Aggressive Motorist Harasses Cyclist

This subreddit doesn’t let you post videos, but I have the footage of her verbally harassing me here. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8cFFYP6/

Today I wasn't feel well, so I biked over to the minute clinic. Cleared for covid and the flu, I got a flu shot, got some food and went home. But less than 5 mins into my 7 minute commute, a woman with her kid(s) in the car decided she just was not having it.

I saw her quickly approaching in my mirror, it appeared she was speeding and wasn't even paying attention, and barely even saw me at the last minute.

Realizing she almost hit me must have set her off, as she not only laid on her horn at me, but drove past me almost side swiping me, cussing me out. She then pulled into the apartment complex, came to a stop, rolled down her window and verbally berated me, insulting me and saying basically I should be on the side walk.

When she saw I was recording she quickly fled, but I caught up to her and she proceeded to stick her tongue out at me, flip me off, then point, as she once again fled.

I am a disabled person, a domestic violence survivor with chronic illnesses, PTSD, and sensory processing disorder. Biking is hard enough without the added danger of angry motorists harassing me; but stuff like this happens 1 out of 3 trips I take on my bike. It's why I started recording every trip. I am indigent and this is my only form of transportation.

In Denton, it is legal for cyclists to share the road (save few places like the square), & studies show that it is in fact likely safer for cyclists to do so since motorists will treat them more as a potential hazard than if they are onsthe sidewalk.

I ride an e-bike, it speeds up fast and is very big and bulky. I feel more safe on the road than the side walk, where many areas are cracked, warped, the trees hang low and will smack ya face, & pedestrians are walking. There are many areas in Denton that do not even have side walks.

I use my turn signals. I even have an electric light signal that beeps. I wear my gear, and I only use the left lane when I am preparing to turn, as was the case here.

She had no reason to be so angry. Especially with such a memorable license plate, out of date inspection, and with presumably a minor in the car (who also rolled their window down to berate me.) She should perhaps focus instead on fixing the audible issues her own transportation has and setting a better example for her kid(s).

Pokemon Mum 🪷

DHS homecoming is 10/11.

I am looking for someone to make a custom mum that is based on/inspired by the Pokemon Toxtricity. I have some ideas, but I am not a creative person.

I think there is potential for this to be pretty fun and unique for the right artist and I think Denton is the place for that person 😄

Replacing 80 ft of privacy fence near UNT. Cedar or vinyl for Denton heat?

Side yard fence off Locust is rotting at the posts and we need about 80 ft replaced. Trying to figure out the best fence material for denton homes with the heat and clay soil. Is cedar still what most people use, or are neighbors switching to vinyl so they stop staining every year?

Use to be that when the lights were green the opposite traffic lights were red so essentially it was like a protected left arrow.

Caregivers Needed!

Post image
156 Upvotes

I am still searching for one or two reliable caregivers. I had to rely on a friend to place some pizza on my table for dinner last night because my caregiver did not show up. Caregivers need to be reliable because it is no fun to go hungry. I doubt anyone would ever let me go without food, but it would less stressful if I had caregivers working together to care for my needs. My job pays $15 per hour. This is a low pay rate, but on average, a DoorDash driver reports to making $20 per hour on a given night. This pay rate with DoorDash or Uber Eats does not include high gas prices, tips, wear & tear on the vehicle, and the 1099 tax deduction rate. It would be a greater advantage to be a caregiver for me because an applicant would gain applicable experience for other employment opportunities in the healthcare profession. If you looking for a part-time job as a caregiver, please follow the instructions on the flyer below!

2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid – B167 Service at 34K Miles. Dealer or Local Shop in Denton?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I have a 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid with about 34,000 miles, and I just got the B167 maintenance code.

I’m trying to figure out the best place around Denton/DFW area to get the required maintenance done. I mainly want somewhere that is reliable, honest, reasonably priced, and familiar with newer Honda hybrids.

I’d prefer to avoid dealership pricing if a good independent shop can properly handle everything, but if you guys think this particular service is better done at a Honda dealer, I’m open to that too.

For anyone with a newer CR-V/CR-V Hybrid:

* Where do you take yours around Denton?
* Any trustworthy independent Honda/Japanese auto shops you recommend?
* Roughly how much did you pay for B167 or similar maintenance?
* Is there anything in the B167 service that you would specifically recommend having the dealer do?
* Any Denton-area Honda dealers worth going to for service, or ones you would avoid?

Just trying to take good care of the car without paying for unnecessary dealer add-ons/services.

2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid | ~34K miles

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Help Making Friends

Hi all! Moved to texas about a year ago and have had a hard time making any meaningful connections. What sort of stuff is there to do around Denton that doesn't revolve around drinking for a 23 year old? I feel like most things going on is for mom groups or college kids at the bars, I just feel out of place

Denton has 5 neighborhoods among the county’s faster-selling areas right now

We reviewed the latest Denton County neighborhood data, and the City of Denton has 5 neighborhoods in the county’s Top 25 for faster-selling activity:

  • Meadow Park — #8, 96 DOM
  • Landmark — #10, 115 DOM
  • Kings Way — #18, 145 DOM
  • Vintage Village — #22, 158 DOM
  • Eagle Creek — #25, 171 DOM

What’s interesting is that Landmark also ranks #4 in Denton County for highest inventory, with 50 homes for sale.

So buyers may have more choices there even while the neighborhood is still ranking relatively high for sales pace.

Anyone in Denton seeing this kind of difference from one neighborhood to another?

Any nuerodivergent people here who love their primary care physician? I'm shopping around.

I'm looking for a primary care physician, but who ideally has experience with ND patients and is more likely to see the weird connections. Like, how autistic people are more likely to have gastro issues, or how late-diagnosed ADHDers are more likely to have anxiety and how anxiety affects the whole body.

Does anyone here know a doctor like that?
