This subreddit doesn’t let you post videos, but I have the footage of her verbally harassing me here. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8cFFYP6/
Today I wasn't feel well, so I biked over to the minute clinic. Cleared for covid and the flu, I got a flu shot, got some food and went home. But less than 5 mins into my 7 minute commute, a woman with her kid(s) in the car decided she just was not having it.
I saw her quickly approaching in my mirror, it appeared she was speeding and wasn't even paying attention, and barely even saw me at the last minute.
Realizing she almost hit me must have set her off, as she not only laid on her horn at me, but drove past me almost side swiping me, cussing me out. She then pulled into the apartment complex, came to a stop, rolled down her window and verbally berated me, insulting me and saying basically I should be on the side walk.
When she saw I was recording she quickly fled, but I caught up to her and she proceeded to stick her tongue out at me, flip me off, then point, as she once again fled.
I am a disabled person, a domestic violence survivor with chronic illnesses, PTSD, and sensory processing disorder. Biking is hard enough without the added danger of angry motorists harassing me; but stuff like this happens 1 out of 3 trips I take on my bike. It's why I started recording every trip. I am indigent and this is my only form of transportation.
In Denton, it is legal for cyclists to share the road (save few places like the square), & studies show that it is in fact likely safer for cyclists to do so since motorists will treat them more as a potential hazard than if they are onsthe sidewalk.
I ride an e-bike, it speeds up fast and is very big and bulky. I feel more safe on the road than the side walk, where many areas are cracked, warped, the trees hang low and will smack ya face, & pedestrians are walking. There are many areas in Denton that do not even have side walks.
I use my turn signals. I even have an electric light signal that beeps. I wear my gear, and I only use the left lane when I am preparing to turn, as was the case here.
She had no reason to be so angry. Especially with such a memorable license plate, out of date inspection, and with presumably a minor in the car (who also rolled their window down to berate me.) She should perhaps focus instead on fixing the audible issues her own transportation has and setting a better example for her kid(s).
