Other Scam

If u/thescientific messages you. they are a peice of shit and scammed me out of so much money this weekend

i cannot report their page because the blocked me so please help in getting them off this platform.

Context: I was trying to buy Lil Wayne tickets. save your hate. i’ve listened to him for over 18 years and he’s my favorite rapper.

@thescientific sent me screenshots of the tickets. had me try to pay via Zelle and Chime and Apple Cash. somehow sent me texts saying these didn’t go through so i kept sending them.

i KNOW this was stupid of me. i’ve been beating myself up for 24 hours.

either way i am out $700 and they never sent the tickets.

such an asshole and slimy move.

OP tried to buy Lil wayne tickets, got scammed. It is on their post history.

I admit I'm so used to everyone hiding their post history, I didn't even look.

Well then, yet another example of why everyone is constantly harping on PayPal G&S only.

this is reddit. we get no context we just judge

In true Reddit fashion we also need to be contrarian and assume OP is the one at fault here

Vagueposting is ruining our local subs.

file a police report. the person commit fraud.

For real this needs to be higher, if you have the amounts for their various cash apps they can investigate very easily. Especially zelle since it's tied to their actual bank account.

The scammer will just make a new account if the current one is burned. You're just embarrassing yourself by telling everyone your story. And sending money multiple times is one of the stupidest things I've heard when it comes to fake ticket scams.

I would implore you to begin by taking screenshots of all potentially incriminating evidence (before this individual takes it down, which will make your case seem less legitimate), then file a police report. Unfortunately you have been a victim of a form of scam that is a punishable in CO. Many victims do not report due to feeling ashamed/embarrassed, hence the reason scamming is so effective… the perps depend on you not reporting. Just remember that even the most intelligent people have likely been scammed at one point or another.

I’m sorry that this happened to you. Be well 🙏

I have zero clue if anything will be done, but I'd report this directly to Reddit, and possibly the fuzz too.

Where these tickets to an event, cause forgery is a crime.

If you paid with a credit or debit card, you can probably get the charges reversed.

3

u/LevelBet2727 17h ago

i tried and no one is helping me 😭

14

u/BetaThetaZeta 17h ago

No, you can and should submit a dispute. No promises you'll get your money back. But not being able to submit a dispute is a violation of financial regulations.

u/ModernNancyDrew 14h ago

Call the fraud department of your credit/debit card company. They have to help you; their entire company would be stiffly fined if they refuse.

Sadly a credit card company won’t have anything to do with Zelle. It’s really annoying. I got scammed out of Savanah Bananas tickets and even though Zelle is literally a button on my Chase app, they don’t back the service at all. And Zelle won’t back themselves either because they give a pop up that says you should only do this if you know the person.

I didn’t know this until I got scammed but apparently it’s a common way to do it, via Zelle.

1

u/ModernNancyDrew 9h ago

I just assumed it was a credit/debit card. That’s what assume does!

1

u/Bananas_are_theworst 8h ago

Yeah on my Chase app anyway I can select pay with Zelle and then it pops up and says don’t use if you don’t know the person, and then you confirm. I sadly thought because it was literally through my bank, that it was safe. No dice. Really frustrating.

Really sorry this happened OP.

u/LevelBet2727 14h ago

one nice person. thank you

5

u/LevelBet2727 14h ago

it was on 8.29. already happened and was sold out.

7

u/t-83 11h ago

There's some shitty comments and I know you already feel bad enough as it is, so maybe this will make you feel better: I totally fell for an even worse scam in my much younger days trying to get tickets to a show for my boyfriend at the time. This was Craigslist days, and the guy told me to go get a Visa gift card at the store and give him the numbers, then he would email the tickets. I DIT IT. Guess what. No tickets! Man I felt like a dumbass. I'm sorry people are so shitty, OP.

u/Competitive_View1748 15h ago

Bro its not sold out just buy it on the website lol

3

u/PanicInTheSkreet 12h ago

Paypal G&S only from now on

2

u/tmc135 7h ago

Yeah if you post on here looking for tickets the first people that message you will always be scammers

1

u/Pound-Capable 7h ago

Sorry this happened to you, in the future only use PayPal goods and services. If they are not willing to do it, it’s probably a scam.

u/TUC4_4 7h ago

🤣🤣 you should pay for your mistake. Sometimes lessons cost money… looks like you’re cost you $700.

1

u/notgonnabemydad 6h ago

Not that this makes things better, but my best friend's FIL just got scammed out of $20,000 because he was convinced the bank needed his help in catching a fraud gang, so he was in with them on the "sting" and put $20K in CASH in a manila envelope in an Uber to help them catch the bad guys. It was absolutely BONKERS that he fell for that!! He's not stupid and doesn't have dementia. Just an inflated ego easily convinced that a bank would need his help catching scammers. So...at least you weren't THAT bone-headed?

Cash or Trade and TickPick are the only places I'll buy resale concert tickets because of the buyer protections they offer.

1

u/jrwilhelm1 13h ago

Well, that was a dumb and expensive mistake.

3

u/LevelBet2727 13h ago

3

u/LevelBet2727 12h ago
