I've been building apps for three years and was pretty good before current prototype. I struggled with my latest project over the last week while trying to fix some legacy code after my co-founder (worst thing here - he's on vacation with no internet and will be back only in 3 weeks, client won't wait).

Main problem is that Im not really familiar with React and its a lot of that stuff here. I spent last 5 days trying find some help but no one can give me any advice. Need to finish mobile app MVP soon (our team signed documents so I can't just tell client "sorry man, give me more time"). I missed so much time tryin to find normal solution to fix that damn code, so now I need a hand which can resolve some spaghetti code problems and refactor project.

No sé si hay más gente que se sienta así, pero a mí me tocó justo el final de la época sin IA mientras estaba formándome y tengo la sensación de que en ese momento aprendía mucho más porque tenía que pelearme más con el código, investigar, equivocarme y sacar las cosas por mi cuenta.

El problema es que mi salida al mundo laboral ha coincidido justo con el boom de la IA y siento que me falta ese expertise de haber picado mucho código en un entorno profesional real, con cosas en producción, usuarios reales, servicios complejos, bugs de verdad, codebases grandes, etc.

Y esto me genera bastantes dudas y síndrome del impostor porque además tampoco encuentro demasiados recursos para aprender justo esa parte. Hay muchos cursos, tutoriales y proyectos, pero al final casi todo se queda bastante lejos de lo que es trabajar con sistemas reales en producción.

Con la IA además tengo una sensación un poco contradictoria, porque obviamente me ayuda muchísimo y en el trabajo se espera que la use porque te hace ir mucho más rápido, pero al mismo tiempo noto que hay cosas que antes sabía o resolvía por mi cuenta y que ahora siento que estoy olvidando, o que directamente no estoy llegando a desarrollar ciertas habilidades porque la IA me resuelve parte del camino.

Y claro, tampoco puedo decir simplemente "dejo de usar IA y hago todo a mano para aprender", porque en el mundo laboral tienes que sacar trabajo y ya se espera bastante esa velocidad.

No sé si me explico, pero siento que he caído justo en una etapa un poco rara: he entrado al mundo profesional cuando ya se espera que trabajes con IA, pero sin haber tenido antes esos años de experiencia profesional picando código sin ella.

¿Hay más gente que se sienta así? Y sobre todo, los que lleváis más años trabajando, ¿qué haríais para ganar esa experiencia que siento que me falta? ¿Hay alguna forma de practicar código realmente complejo, producción, sistemas con usuarios reales, open source o algo parecido sin depender tanto de la IA? Y los que la usáis todos los días, ¿cómo hacéis para aprovecharla sin sentir que dejáis de aprender?

Don't get me wrong we're thankful for the partnership. We still got our mobile app at ~6mos at roughly 30% our local rate so it's as good as deal as any but it's taking us more time than necessary to make new feature additions because we have to decipher their code first. It's like being in an archeology dig.

Now I'm wondering if this is normal or if we messed the handoff. We might work with them in a new project so I'm partly daunting the post-launch already.

Question for freelancers/agencies who take on custom web app builds: how do you price hourly, day/rate, or fixed project fee? What are realistic current rates (junior/mid/senior split, backend vs frontend)? How does the process change when design is already done and out of scope?

Also curious how you factor in uncertainty when estimating especially for the line items you'd flag as "needs research first."

I'm a 20 year old CS student who's been building things seriously for a while now full-stack mobile, backend systems, AI integrations, low-level stuff, scraping pipelines, the whole range from a probabilistic chess game to a compiler to a custom database engine. I've worked with a few founders already and I'm looking for the next thing.

I'm not hunting for a job. I'm looking for something I can actually be invested in.. where I'm talking to the founder regularly, understanding the problem we're solving, and building toward something real.

What I can contribute:

* Flutter / mobile (full stack, not just UI)

* Backend APIs and infra

I’ve built an MVP to make property inventories easier:

1. Record a video of the property.
2. AI identifies the rooms, items and potential damage.
3. Review and correct the results.
4. Generate a report for the landlord and tenant to sign.
5. Compare future inspections to identify changes or damage.

The idea is to make check-ins, check-outs and periodic inspections quicker and better documented.
