The shiny new discs you got last week didn't make your golf game any better, huh?

Welcome to the Form Check Weekly Thread, a weekly thread that will be stickied every Monday morning for a few days. All form check requests will be referred to here.

There have been some fantastic Form Check guides but this one by MVP_Steve is far and away the best - https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/760ckm/form_check_psa_how_to_leave_a_form_check_request/

Discussion [Fun Fact!] Every recorded stance violation from 2026 Worlds

Since we're all rules guys/gals now, I got curious about how often stance violations were actually recorded during Pro Worlds.

I pulled the throw-level data from PDGA Live for every MPO and FPO round at Worlds and searched specifically for penalties recorded as stance violations.

300 players registered.

1,321 rounds played.

23,778 holes played.

Stance violations

Cole Redalen — MPO, Round 4, Hole 14

Maria Oliva — FPO, Round 3, Hole 14

Rainers Balodis — MPO, Finals, Hole 17

Total: 3.

This isn't an opinion on whether any of the calls were correct — just sharing fun disc golf statistical information based on what is recorded in the PDGA Live data.

Discussion Biggest take away: Pdga marshals need to do their job and be held accountable

Whether or not Goose should or shouldn’t have made the call, all the things shown after the fact of people arguing only have proven brodie smiths opinion of pdga marshals are on a vacation. If fans are pointing out all the for faults between both rainers and silas, falling putts and rainers moving branches to pitch out it is ridiculous the marshals don’t give warnings or make calls. Unless it is a time violation on gannon to set an example or the foot fault on Kristin a few years ago they don’t do anything. Even these instances feel wrong because of the intensity of the situations and lack of them being called at all. That either need to making calls in these higher card scenarios. I understand there isn’t enough for every card and nobody except goose apparently wants to make these calls on other players. At least for the top 5 cards a marshal needs to because of the weight these calls hold. They should also be held accountable like refs and officials in other sports when we can clearly see how terrible they perform their jobs. As pdga members who pay these people’s salaries it feels just as helpless as watching our government spend our money with no accountability.

Discussion Give the kid some love

Don't matter which side of the lie you are on about hole 17, this kid played his heart out for 5 days in a foreign country and almost won a world championship. His socials are not big, and doesn't have mass following, but we can help boost him up. He has an insta and and even smaller YouTube channel and I am sure he would appreciate some love.

PDGA Statement: Final Round of MPO at 2026 Pro Worlds

By: PDGA Staff

Monday, August 31, 2026 - 14:33

The Professional Disc Golf Association issues the following statement regarding the events on hole 17 of the final round of the 2026 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships.

Disc golf is a self-officiated sport. Players are expected to call violations when they occur, 801.02.E, and penalty throws generally require a player's call to be seconded by another member of the group or a Tournament Official, 801.02.H.2.

During the final round, Rainers Balodis #158640 threw an approach shot to hole 17's basket. At that time, Aaron Gossage #35449 called a stance violation. Specifically, Mr. Gossage observed that, at the time the disc was released, the placement of Mr. Balodis's left foot violated 802.07.A.

PDGA Director of Competition Phill Diloné #70955, who was serving as the PDGA Marshal for the card, immediately seconded Mr. Gossage's call by saying "that is the correct call." The other players in the group stated that they were not looking.

As required by 808.C, the group confirmed the hole scores at the tee of hole 18, including a penalty throw issued to Mr. Balodis under 802.07.C. and the Marshal asked if all scores were correct. The group affirmed the scores and teed off. The Tournament Director, Nate Heinold #49340, was present, but did not participate in the call. Mr. Balodis had the ability to appeal to Mr. Heinold under 801.03.A, but did not do so.

The competition continued and concluded that same day. By rule, the call stands and, under 801.03.C and 808.G, is no longer appealable or reviewable.

The PDGA congratulates our two 2026 World Champions and all our other competitors at Pro Worlds.

Why is there no discussion on this? Eveliina smashes the entire field by 20-50 strokes? I’ve never seen a beatdown like this in any sport, ever. It’s hard to put into words just how dominant she is. Makes what Kristin did look like child’s play.

The two hot geese commentary is pretty painful as well. Just inside jokes about birds wearing imaginary hats for an entire round. Both of them constantly not paying attention and forgetting how many strokes players have on each hole. Mind numbingly bad commentary.

Disc Advice Building a bag as a beginner

42m - I've only been playing for a month. I have loved every single match, even when I've done terribly. On our regularly played, pretty technical local course, I am throwing pretty consistently ~+18, Have played smaller, easier courses and have thrown as low as +7

I am trying to resist the urge to just BUY ALL THE PLASTIC, because, well, I have two kids and a wife that all play too (+a married daughter and her husband), and trying to outfit just myself+ the ones I am responsible for becomes really expensive, really fast - So I want to target my purchases to what I will actually use as I grow.

I have no gauge for how hard I throw, but if I am just bombing it out there, wide open (no cursed trees...) I have paced my drivers and midrange out to 300-350' pretty consistently.

I have:
Driver Lat64: Saint
Mid Lat64: Fuse
Mid Discraft: Buzzz SS
Mid: Doomsday: Chemtrail
Putter: Lat64: Keystone

I have access to multiple Dynamic, Prodigy, Trash Panda, and one Innova disc, and I throw all of them pretty well - They're almost all starter kit types with similar numbers. It seems I certainly favor understable with a max speed around 11 right now... Working on getting my speed up.

But how would you recommend building out my bag, besides chasing pretty plastic? How do I go about even understanding what I need? I'm out throwing every opportunity I have, and trying to understand each disc... Any "You 100% should have this disc" discs? Why?

I love this sport... give me well reasoned justifications for buying more plastic :-P

Discussion Sling Disc Golf Bag (Spotted at World's)

I went to Worlds and saw a couple of people with a sling disc golf bag that was something in between the Lat 64 and Infinite sling bags. It looked like it held 10-12 discs and had a pocket for a large water bottle. I could not make out the brand and did not ask thinking it would be easy to find (I can't find it 😔).

Does this bag ring a bell to anyone?

Self-Promotion Season 1 of Flightle starts today! New scoring system!

A couple months ago I posted about Flightle, a free daily Wordle-style game where you guess the disc from its flight. You see the actual flight path rendered by a physics model, and you get feedback on the four flight numbers with every throw (guess).

Today it grew up. Season 1 is live, and the big change is that every hole has a par now. Some discs are easy to isolate from their numbers, others sit in a crowd of near-identical molds, and flat scoring treated those the same. Now each disc is a par 3, 4, or 5 based on how hard it actually is to pin down. Your score is throws minus par like a real round, and the throw limit is double par, so a nasty par 5 gives you up to ten guesses.

This update also includes the Range, a new unranked mode with unlimited holes across the full catalog of 1,400+ discs, and long tees, a hard mode that hides the flight numbers and plays a stroke longer for the risk.

The game is free, no ads, no signup, and there is a monthly disc giveaway just for sharing your results grid over on r/Flightle. Season 1 board starts everyone at even par, and at the end of the season the best score to par takes the crown.

Play at https://dgfv.io/flightle . Would love to hear what the sub thinks of the par assignments, the community that plays daily has already changed the game a lot (more guesses, bigger custom disc caps, and a bunch of flight number corrections all came from player feedback).

This angle probably should not be lost in the general outrage. It becomes particularly sketchy when money & gambling is involved.

To be clear, I am not alleging that he made a decision in the moment based on what he stood to gain/lose on a bet.

What i am alleging is that there is AT LEAST a serious bias when it comes to making calls and self officiating and that bias resulted in a stroke penalty that altered the outcome of a World Championship.

He is publicly sponsored by a betting site and there should be an official investigation into his ties with sports betting.

This doesn't begin or end with Goose but obviously in this case he provides a crystal clear example of how bias in sports officiating becomes hugely problematic. Disc golf is not a massive sport but there is plenty of money and therefore plenty of incentive for underhanded dealing.

Whether or not this had any explicit connection to the call he made, it should raise serious questions about the competitive integrity of the sport & the need to solidify rules/rulings and the enforcement of such.

Discussion For those of you feeling really bad about Rainers Balodis...

Me too. However, its worth noting that in the five holes directly before hole 17, he committed three very clear infractions that each gave him real advantages he should not have had.

Hole #12 (13:38 on the Jomez video): Foot fault on the jump putt - he releases the disc after his plant foot leaves the ground behind his marker.

Hole #15 (timestamp 32:40): He pulls live branches out of his way in front of his lie while he is making his upshot.

Hole #16 (timestamp 39:40): Same foot fault as hole 12.

Not trying to pick on Rainers - he's an incredible player and it was an incredible run! And lots of other players also foot faulting out there, so this doesn't fix the consistency issue.. But the fact that he either purposefully or carelessly broke the rules in a way that gave him an advantage multiple times in the several holes directly leading up to "the incident" helps me feel a little better about the ultimate outcome. Maybe it will help you too.

Pro Coverage, Highlights and News Arriving at Jomez practice round a few minutes late?

Upvotes

My wife and I have tickets to the Jomez practice round at Idlewild tomorrow. We both work nights and will be cutting it close to getting there at 9. What happens if you arrive after 9? Unfortunately we can't get off early due to co-worker vacations. If nothing goes wrong should be there at 10 minutes til, but there are a lot of bad drivers out there.

Mail Call Auburn - Ithaca - Cortland, New York

Anyone in the South Cayuga, Tompkins, or Cortland county area that plays and/or is looking to play? I'm relatively new to the area and would love to find someone or some people to play with. I live in the middle of Auburn, Ithaca, and Cortland, so any of those areas will do. 39 year old male, if that makes a difference. Hope to fling some discs soon!
