Dishwasher sheepishly asked for some fries. This is what I made for him.

Did you ever get free food if you worked at a university dishwasher?

Hey, I'm a dishwasher and prep cook. So is there anyone who could tell me what this does?

I have looked at the part with two wheels at the top near the blade, but no one else except maybe my boss knows what this is and I can't tell how it functions. I would ask my boss if I didn't keep forgetting whenever I'm at work, so is there anyone here who could answer my question?

Edit: My question has been answered. But thanks a bunch to everyone who answered my question. 😁✌️

2 years in the hole, health issues imminent, do I get out?

Been dishing for two years and I’m the best the company has got so they’ve made exceptions for me to stay year round instead of seasonal. Getting fed up with management there after I got hit with overuse injuries and tendonitis in my shoulder and wrist, so i found a new gig but it seems like the same if not more strain. Starting to get chronic pain in my feet as well. I’m only 26 and somehow I don’t really smoke or drink much. I’m only 5’3 and the new gig has two dishwashers (one normal and one glassware) that I have to bend down to load up, and aside from kitchen prep and service dishes, I’m supposed to handle all the glasses from bar service. First shift there was nuts. I couldn’t even reach most places I had to put away clean dishes. With all my health problems seeming to get worse I somehow can’t decide if I should get into the new job or just quit before I even get a foothold, or get saddled with new chronic pains from bending and lifting all night…

Just a guy who didn’t realize he would start washing dishes for a living…

I really want to sabotage the terrible machine in our store so they’ll replace it with a high temp one

I’m being pretty serious here. It’s leaving grime on all our shit and not removing anything from it. Our 1 year old dish racks look 4 years old bc of this. The inside is completely covered in grime and lime bc this thing fucking sucks so bad. Delinking does nothing, it doesn’t get hot enough to get the (mostly oil) grime capable. There’s the old joke that “you’re the dishwasher, this is the sanitizer” but it’s extremely true for this. Our sink water doesn’t get hot enough to remove this shit either. There’s cameras so I can’t take a sledgehammer to it or anything extremely obvious but I can do most anything.

Is there a dishwasher equivalent to sugar in the gas tank? Big Boss can afford it times 20 and should have bought us a better one in the first place

Has anyone of you guys seen this issue before? In 8 years I haven’t had this happen- is there a pump that is supposed to be in there that is failing? Any advice or troubleshooting ideas is greatly appreciated

AGAIN

So I have been called to work again in may days off....this time I said no.

I get that shit happens but once you let them a finger they take a whole arm.

Like seriously... it was a one time thing. I'm not a 24h convenience store.

New guy starts his first shift, drives off halfway through

The new guy came into dish, about halfway through the day, says, "Oh shit, I gotta get my car before it gets towed." Twenty minutes go by, a chef is asked as to his whereabouts, chef says "wait, he's really not around?" Nope. Chef gives him a call, and the guy picks up and says, "Oh, yeah, I quit." Poof. Dude literally drove off into the sunset. Absolute legend.

how can I be more useful?

I'm relatively new to this job. I work as a busser. during my training, I asked the manager what to do with the leftover food on the plates stacked in the bus tubs. he just shrugged and told me (well, basically) to do whatever I wanted (or rather, not to do anything)

now that I've gotten faster at clearing tables and restocking (among other things), I've been wondering what else I can do to help the dishwasher

I always try to stack the plates neatly and scrape the leftover food into the trash (usually the bus tubs are out front and the trash cans are inside the kitchen), but last night a server stopped me and said, "don't do that. you're slowing down your own work, and that's the dishwasher's job."

is there a way I can be more efficient about this? I'm the only busser on this shift, so things do get a bit hectic at times. but I figure that the more I help out with this, the sooner we'll have clean plates and cutlery available if we get hit with a massive rush too

How many 3 compartment sink dishies are there here?

Just wondering, lol. Include seat numbers as well if you feel comfortable.

I use a 3 sink setup with a sanitizer machine. 75 ish seats.

forarm eczema 🫩

I know some other people have posted with a similar problem of eczema/rashes/irritation but i'm curious how to get around it. We don't use sanitizer or any heavy chemicals, one sink for rinsing, one with soapy water, just normal dish soap, and then the dishwashing machine. what started as a little patch of eczema on my forearm now reaches from my elbow to my hand. I've been using hydrocortisone which calms it when i'm not working but as i have to go back to work it comes back worse. I can't lose this job and gloves just make the irritation worse.

guys, wth can i do to pass the time or be engaged in something to make time pass. i go fast enough that there’s no dishes to wash and i get bored having to wait sometimes an hour. i can’t go on my phone too much cause there’s no wifi in the kitchen, and whenever my manager is there if im caught on my phone or anybody it’s straight to cleaning walls 😭

Personally it’s these little beans cups/ramekins. Beans are always caked on, theres zero possible way to spray them without getting yourself soaked no matter how you orient the cup

That, or 2-4 qt cambros caked with waffle batter. I gotta soak those bitches for half an hour to even have a chance lmao

Got sick of customer facing roles, picked up a union job washing dishes at the big city stadium. Graveyard 12 hour shifts but I will gladly deal with insomnia instead of another customer complaint
