I think this is the first time that they're discounting renewals (apart from regular continuity renewal discounts)

I wish Django offered something that I could buy as a corporate user, that doesn't require justifying as a donation. Some kind of support licence, for example, that gave a minimal, but real service. There are lot fewer questions to pay for a need, than to donate monies.

And that's essentially the problem with the way it's funded I suppose. The project raises money through donations. I've worked for places that don't get it. But that "support license" is paid for by donations.

Certain projects that are outside the scope of the usual volunteer OSS pattern get paid for from the donation money. But it also pays for the Fellows who keep those security patches coming and annual feature releases.

The company I work for base their platform on Django and rest framework. So they make donations through GitHub and the other ways the dsf open up payment.
