Does anyone remember mega computer stores from the 90s? This was South Korea’s legendary "Sejin Computer Land" back in the DOS/early Windows era.

In the 90s, before online shopping took over, this was literally heaven for every PC & DOS gamer in South Korea.

Entire multi-story buildings dedicated purely to computers:

  • Endless aisles of PC big box games, shareware CDs, floppy disks, and sound cards (Sound Blaster, Gravis, etc.).
  • Floor-to-ceiling demo rigs running the latest DOS and Windows 95 software.
  • Famous for their wild marketing: "Lifetime Free Repairs / Free Education / Price Breakthrough" (as seen on the giant banners).
  • Their customer service was legendary—you could bring in a fried motherboard or a messed-up config.sys / autoexec.bat setup, and they’d fix it for free.

It eventually disappeared after the Asian Financial Crisis (IMF), but walking into one of these stores on a weekend with a fresh PC gaming magazine in hand is a core nostalgic memory.

Did you guys have a similar iconic mega-store in your country back in the day (like CompUSA, Fry's, or Akihabara spots)?

Micro Center and CompUSA for me. CompUSA near me had great rows of PCs that let you choose demos to play. I remember a demo of Blood the best, getting a creepy vibe in the bright store. Wondering what the funny penguin I kept seeing on some book covers was about. And of course checking the bargain bin on the way out.

Panthip Plaza in Bangkok. Not a megastore, but a 5 story shopping mall with primarily small computer and software stores. There were many shops that sold pirated software too but plenty of legitimate software stores. These days it is mostly cell phones. Fortune Town is the best I have found to go to now.

Not exactly megastores but around Durban we had Incredible Connection, with a pretty big store just outside of town we used to visit.
