So my stand spring has worn out

DR cut out on a dirt trail and wouldn't turn back on, I had lost the zip tie holding in the stand switch in for this one ride. I wandered back up the track, found an empty beer can, crushed it and found the mouth clamped around the sensor and the base filled the gap perfectly.

It got me to my date and back home, so no complaints from me.

Now for a new stand spring and maybe a bent metal strip to hold the sensor in.

Brother all that kick stand sensor does is disrupt the circuit when the kick stand is down and complete the circuit when the kick stand is up...its a basic switch. Its significantly easier and 100℅ more reliable to bypass that switch permanently.

There's a few videos on YouTube as well as write ups on forums like ADVrider and DRrides in how to do it. Its usually one of the first things ppl do to eliminate the possibility of the very same problem you experienced.

As long as OP understands why that switch is there in the first place and accepts the responsibility for not riding off with the stand down, yeah, remove it and splice the wires.

I know how dumb I can be, so I will come back and fix it properly another weekend.

There is a stretched spring and a worn out mount. I'll either need a welder or butane to take out the slack, and fresh parts to get it to sit right. A centre stand looks cool, but I have other big parts I want first.

If I was to delete the sensor, I'd be removing the diode and relay as well to cut down on things that can break. I'm not a fan of vestigial parts.

Everyone is saying bypass the stand switch, but I've found it a somewhat useful thing to have since inadvertently breaking my clutch switch.

I guess I will pile on with the rest. There’s a relay that can fail as well. If you’re going to defeat the sensor, then it would be best to delete it all the way so you don’t have the extra failure point.

Don't forget the NSU diode too! Without the relay there's not much use for it either.

Dude just bypass the stand switch, it's nothing but annoying.
