I found what appears to be a first-print hardcover with the dust jacket at a local bookstore for $125. It’s in pretty nice condition. For those who collect the original hardcovers, does $125 seem reasonable, or would you pass?
I’m tempted to go back for it today.

I have read the original trilogy and some other books like War of Lost Souls 1 and 2 and The Lost Chronicles 1 and 2. Here is a list of all the books I own.

I considered starting in chronological order, reading them, and buying the books I am missing as I get to them. Has anyone here done this successfully? And did they enjoy it?

I've started reading the Legends trilogy for the first time (I know, bad nerd), and I gotta say, I'm struggling. I'm eight chapters into Time of the Twins, and it feels like a bit of a slog thus far. Like nothing meaningful has really happened, y'know?

And maybe it's because I was never a fan of Raistlin, but I feel like I ate up Chronicles and Lost Chronicles, while here I'm sort of meh thus far. Crysania is kinda annoying, Caramon being a drunkard is grating, and it feels like they keep talking about how amazing and awesome and powerful Raistlin is. Like, on the verge of just jerking him off the whole time.

Do they pick up? Am I being unfair here? I'm just struggling, but I keep hearing how good these books are, and how important they are to the story of Krynn.

My family bought me a Dragonlance calendar (Christmas ‘84) which blew my imagination up. I went out and bought DOAT-it was the fastest I’d ever consumed a novel. Looking back, I’ve realized how much the artworks of Elmore, Easley, Parkinson and Caldwell played a part in that.
Just wanted to hear other’s stories about what it meant to everyone else.

This game cover would be the ending I didn’t know I wanted back when I first read Legends .
But now I believe this ending would have been perfect.

I spent a lot of my teen years reading the DragonLance novels. I own at least one AD&D DragonLance campaign setting (I know I have the 3.5 campaign setting). I played D&D throughout my teen years, but have not played in perhaps 30 years. I do own the D&D 5e core books.

I wonder, if "Shadow of the Dragon Queen" is worth picking up for the read of the rules alone? I likely will never get to play again. Or is it mostly just an adventure with a little bit dedicated to DragonLance-specific rules?

I have read the first two books and im halfway in the third and i would like to share some thoughts on the books.

I knew they would not be literature jewels as i have read many rpg novels from TSR but i wanted to learn more about the lore. The whole trilogy thing led authors adding unnecessary and boring details to their books making them long and the experience in reading the book quite tedious to say the least.

The same stands for the elven nations trilogy and i have to pass by many paragraphs of idle descriptions and useless dialogues in order to go on reading. What astounded me and felt totally wrong from what i have read in the chronicles is the "nation" of qualinesti which is described as a mongrel union of elves (kagonesti and silvanesti) half elves humans and even dwarves! A notion which 8s not shown in the original books as tanis half elven is not accepted in qualinesti society and humans and dwarves are not tolerated. Im not sure if i can find the answers in the last 150 pages of the third book but the authors i believe had in their minds england and usa as the ideals of the two elven kingdoms with silvanesti rigid and more brutal and qualinesti as free for all! Anyway the books added few things in the gaps i had in ancient pro cataclysm elven history but instead gave me needless details.

I would not recommend these books except dragonlance die hard fans...

I’m recently reading the books and they have me hooked. Krynn sucked me in and never let me go.

Now I’m going to destroy it. in a way.

I know even after the Dragon Overlords were killed, the damage they did to the environments of their holdings fundamentally changed it. I need that world.

I’m looking for specific resources that can help establish what it looks like after Mina and the War of Souls, if they exist. Is this in SotDQ? Age of Moetals from 3.5? Politics, gov’t, whose boundaries are whose etc.

A general guide is fine, I’m going to make it up where the map ends.

All Dragonlance fans know that gold, silver and bronze dragons can take humanoid form. But, what about the rest? I do not recall any Brass or Copper dragon shapeshifting in the novels.

More important, can evil (chromatic) dragons take human form? So far I recall two (warning! spoilers below):

The red dragon Ariela, in the 1991 Gold Box game "Death Knights of Krynn" and Cyan Bloodbane -although in his case thanks to a magical item, so it seems it was not a natural ability -.

But none of the above clarify whether they are an exception/some freedom from the author in one of the cases, or it is canonical.

I could not find any official material in Dragonlance campaign settings, either.

If I find out my smoking hot, multi-lingual, magic using, extremely capable girlfriend also has the ability to switch between elven and dragon forms, the last thing I'd be feeling is grief.

I'd be over the moon, one of the moons, over all the moons about this news.

Got a problem that needs running away from? How about you hop on the back of your Dragon girlfriend and the two of you can literally fly away from your problems.

Have you run into an enemy you can't defeat? Just let your Dragon girlfriend blast them with her ice breath.

Seriously there is no downside here and Gilthanas turns into the biggest whiny jerk about the news.

The only thing I can think he's got anything to whine about is the fact that they can't have kids naturally together. Fair point. But it's Krynn, there's a war going on, there are plenty of orphaned kids looking for homes.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what Gilthanas was on about?

I have two copies of the Legends trilogy and Dragons of the Dwarven Depths. I'll be happy to give them away to anyone willing to pay postage or come near San Francisco, California to pick them up.

I just finished reading The Legend of Huma for the first time since it was released in 1988. Fun part is it had been so long since I read it, it felt like a brand new book to me, which was awesome.

While getting completely reinvested in the lore, I discovered Devil’s Due Publishing released a six-issue Legend of Huma comic miniseries in 2004–05, with Richard A. Knaak himself revisiting the story in full-color comic form.

So, naturally, I’m now hunting down a copy of the TPB on eBay lol.

I’m not entirely sure what the point of this post is other than sharing this discovery with anyone else who somehow missed it.

Also I'm curios for those who have read the comic: Did it live up to the version of Huma’s story you had pictured in your head from reading the novel?

Also also, Huma and Kaz RULE! (and Magius is ok I guess). That is all.

Has anyone ever read the series to the best of their ability is true chronological order and what was that experience like?

Hello! I'm running a campaign in dragonlance that's an extension of the shadow of the dragon queen adventure module(though we finished that long ago). My players are currently spending downtime in the city of Kalaman during the winter months while waiting for spring, and while rolling for random events they rolled for a ship to arrive at the harbor from a distant land.

What are some of the exotic or distant groups this ship could be carrying, or at least what are some of your personal favorites? I'm currently at a lost for what to do, and would like someone to point me in an interesting direction. Thank you

I'm tired of reading this trope on Reddit about Legends being the superior read. Chronicles is the OG, had the compelling set up and storyline etc. If they'd folded Raistlin's destiny into a single novel and made that "Dragons of Summer Flame" being book 4 of Chronicles, it would arguably be maybe the best fantasy series ever.

did anyone else accidentally mis-age the characters in chronicles? i first read and fell in love with the books in high school, and for some reason I pictured the company as 30s+ . I guess 20s seem OLD to teenage readers lol.

re-reading now in my 30s and I now read the characters as their true ages. it’s like a whole new story now.

Has anyone experienced any other changes between first and second/third/etc rereads?
