only had one drink todayšŸ‘

did have to crack open another one at 3:30am and take some sips because that is so much less than i usually have and my body was screaming, but yeah.

i mean it wasn't really by choice, i was given dilaudid at the hospital so i had to wait quite a while for it to not be super dangerous, but still, i did it. and i'm probably going to have to do it more often the next few days because i have a prescription for painkillers too. and i really need those painkillers because i fractured my sternum and it's so fucking painful. and i'd rather not be able to drink as frequently than be in this much pain.

ok yeah thank you for listening to my ramble

It doesn't matter, I didn't drink

It doesn't matter that I said something stupid at work, I wasn't drunk for it.

It doesn't matter that I tripped over my words and stuttered, I wasn't drunk for it.

It doesn't matter that I utterly embarrassed myself in front of people I care for, I wasn't drunk for it.

It doesn't matter that I'm making this post drunk, sobbing at the man I've become, I didn't have a goddamn sip the entire fucking day. And I'll fucking do it again tomorrow.

I should really get a journal for this shit but fuck, hope someone at least resonates.

Anyone else have no friends because they were an isolated drunk?

When I started heavy drinking in my early twenties I felt like I had so many friends. I think because then drinking felt more normal if it was a social event. I would have people over every night because it gave me an excuse to drink and I was in an abusive relationship and it gave me an escape.

When I left the abuse 5 years ago and moved out I found how much I loved drinking by myself. It was a slow burn but slowly but surely I began isolating myself from everyone. I’ve made friends since then but have slowly iced them out too. I probably have 50+ unopened texts from people trying to reconnect with me and I just don’t reply. I’m 28 now and 2 weeks sober and it’s really hitting me that I lost all my friends.

I’m going on vacation in a couple weeks and need someone to cat sit for me and realized I don’t have anyone to ask lol The only people I communicate with outside of work is my boyfriend and family and occasionally my one friend left.

I’m still early sobriety and really struggling and it’s such a catch 22 because I know i want to make more friends or reconnect with some old ones and the anxiety makes me want to drink but I know if I drink I will just isolate again UGH!!!! I say again but let’s be real I still just want to be alone

Getting over ruined relationships

I ruined the relationship with the most wonderful person in my life last year. We were going to get married. My alcoholism is what ultimately drove her to end things last July 2025. I spiralled hard after she left me and ultimately went to 42 inpatient rehab in October. I still carry a tremendous amount of shame and regret. I understand why she left me. I understand that I was no good for her but It's still been incredibly hard.

Since getting out of rehab I have had 5 relapses. Between relapses, things will be going well for me. I'm productive, active, social in healthy circles and eating well. I've run two half marathons. I've lost quite a bit of weight. Preceeding every relapse the trigger seems to have been related to her. Once when we had an emotional conversation about her not wanting to reconcile (we'd been in contact again at the time), once on our anniversary, two separate time when beginning to date other women (I think this one was nuanced but it made me reflect on the fact that it was over with someone I still loved) and once this past week when she contacted me to tell me she needs to go no contact and to please accept this boundary.

I've done a lot of work in dealing with my other triggers and outside of these relapses I can honestly say I've barely had the will to drink. I just can't shake this one. My current strategy is to of course respect her boundaries, get a councelor specializing in grief and addiction and stop dating for the time being.

I'm wondering if anyone else out there has been through something similar and has any ideas.

Another hospital visit, bravo Vince...

Long story ahead... used gemini to translate because i haven't slept and felt well in previous 5 days... i hope ya'll read it and give me some advices

I know I fucked up...—I drank 13–15 beers (4.7%) daily for 14 days straight and was in terrible shape.

Today is day 4 sober. I went to the hospital over sternum pain, fearing pancreatitis. After 7 hours, a complete blood count, ultrasound, and chest X-ray, everything came back fine. My amylase, lipase, and CRP are perfect. though my GGT, (110)

Is slightly elevated. Since this was my 4th visit in two months (previously reporting fever and diarrhea), they suggested seeing an infectious disease specialist "if I wanted," mostly as a formality. Because i lied to them everytime so i can just get a xray's and ultrasounds and bloodwork for free (in my country healtcare is free)

This isn't my first rodeo, but I'm still getting sudden hot flashes/sweats and mild morning tremors. I held off on vitamins and electrolytes thinking it was pancreatitis, but thankfully it turned out to be just GERD.

Just want to make it one weekend

Man! Back to a call out and laying on the couch. I’m a weekend warrior. Never have the desire to grab a drink after work. But Friday comes along and I just can’t help it. Had about 5 beers Friday. That wasn’t too bad. Camped Saturday and probably had 9 IPAs and 4-5 shots total. I honestly can’t remember but it absolutely ruined me. Of course I had some Sunday to combat the hangover. About 4 total, throwing up most of them. I did eat some. Slept some, but now on the couch with giant anxiety and almost feeling worse than yesterday. I know exactly how I got here and how to not be here. I do this on weekends too much. Now I sit thinking about how bad I want to feel better and how much I want to sober for the next weekend.

Any other weekend warriors wanting to cut it out? Just looking to relate. Maybe a bit of advice to get back to myself today. No drinking today. Might go on a run soon to shake myself up.

Is it true on and off drinkers can feel it worse than binge drinkers?

New here, 1 week into the journey

Hey everyone, I've been 1 week sober, and also 1 week nic free and a month away from weed. Wasn't physically dependent yet but i tended to binge drink a lot on the weekends, mixing all three and ending up sleeping at 6 or 7am, and it was negatively impacting a lot of my goals so I decided to step away.

So how's everyone doing today on yall's own journey?

How to sober up ASAP?

So basically I need your help because tomorrow school starts and I am violently hungover. I drank a lot of vodka and smoked (which I don’t do often) and because of that I trew up. I haven’t drunk anything except water and poweraid in the past 13 hours and I have vomited 3 times yet. I am starting to feel better but tomorrow I will have PE class and I don’t want to throw up during the class. Furthermore I have to sit in 30*C for an hour because of the school year starting ceremony.

Day 142 sober

Today is day 142! The days feel easier sometimes but sometimes they’re rough. I must say I haven’t felt this healthy in years. The health OCD that made me quit has also caused me to obsess over diet and exercise and I finally feel somewhat decent when I see a photo or look at myself in the mirror! One of the photos above is me last year at my worst with the drinking and the other was taken this morning on a hike with a good friend. One of the things that has helped me get this far is the drive to take care of my body and be as healthy as possible. I don’t know if that works for everyone but it definitely caused something to click for me. I just felt like shit all the time and didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. I hope everyone is doing well on their journeys and I wish you all nothing but success! You got this! Stay strong friends :)

Retatrutide

I’m a very heavy drinker. Once I get a taste and the feel it’s off to the races. My normal Saturday is plenty of drinks out with friends (6+) and then home to usually a full bottle or most of a bottle of red wine (my biggest vice) for a movie. Last night I took my first shot of retatrutide because I really want to lose some weight and I’ve also heard it quiets alcohol noise the same as food. Holy crap. First time I’ve been out with friends and called it a day because the thought of another drink just didn’t sound good (that never, EVER happens). Then came home and opened my usual bottle, finished 1.5 glasses and the thought of another sounds awful. Normally I’d still be on the couch plowing thru the whole bottle. Now I’m in bed with some water. I can absolutely see why they are testing these drugs for alcoholics.

6 years alcohol free today

Called it quits when i was 29 after a decade+ of heavy consumption. PAWS + kindling became way too much to manage. Wish i had a crazy comeback story for you, but life still has it's challenges. My physical health definitely feels better off without it though so i'll take that win. Y'all have a good weekend!

Can someone please help for real

26F. I need someone to help me like give real life advice. How do you stop yourself from walking down the street to the store you’ve always gone to?? How do you stop yourself from stopping at the store across the street from your job? NOT MEDICATION. I cant fucking afford it and I am so sick of every post I make everyone saying ā€œnaltrexone!!!! TSM!!!!ā€ No I fucking cant i dont have that option bro. I cant go to rehab. I am a poor person that isn’t recognized as poor in the USA and I am not entitled to healthcare so please dont comment saying I need medicine. I know I do. I need various medications for many different things. I cant get it.

So anyway I cant stop myself from buying vodka no matter what happens. I play the tape forward, I know I cant sleep, I know I gained 25 pounds, I know my skin is breaking out and I have moonface. I know I wake up feeling like death and regret. I know I wont workout or eat clean at all after drinking. Yet I still cannot stop doing it. Its just there. Yeah I’m depressed but who isnt. I’ve gone thru shit but who hasnt. I feel like that shouldn’t matter, I should be able to stop legitimately killing myself and making myself sick. AND UGLY!!!! How ugly and fat I’ve gotten is sickening. I cant fit it any of my clothes or look at myself in the mirror. None of that stops me from doing it all over again.

I’m very sad. I just want to be sober, drink teas, read books, play games, etc. But instead I’m a fat loser drunk just drinking morning to night. Before work and everything. I even steal liquor from my job on camera as a bartender bc I have no self control.

If you read all this I really appreciate you for that. Lord help me

Was tapering well but almost back to day zero after a week!

I had shakes sweats and dizziness and vision problems. As well as a higher BP like lower level type 2 hypertension and extreme nausea. I can’t get a medical detox easily, or haven’t seen the doc yet but I tapered down about 30% of usage and now I’m back to square one, it’s my first time tapering! This shit sucks. Me and my gf are trying to taper off of us each having 85% of a fith every night for months. Struggling it’s taking over my life and ruining opportunities but I also can’t get medical help easily due to costs and the potential of if my mom found out I’m drinking I’d be kicked out of the house (I’m still quite young btw)

Tapering…. Again

Long time listener, first time caller. Late 20s F here going through a bad breakup for the last 4 weeks. With a year long period of sobriety before this.

Over the first 2.5 weeks, I ramped my alcohol consumption up from 0 drinks to 17 per day. Which brings us to 6 days ago. I had already decided it was time to cut back. Now I want to quit. So over the last 6 days, I have tapered down to 7 drinks a day. No withdrawal symptoms currently and I’m even sleeping well. But I want to just quit.

And everywhere I’ve called has told me that outpatient treatment isn’t an option for me. I would just CT at this point, but I’m terrified of seizures. Inpatient isn’t an option for me because of life responsibilities.

Don’t know what to do.

Edit to add: I’ve had minor WDs before, but never at the seizure level.

Need advice, at my wits end.

In my alcohol spiral the last 3-4 years, who knows now, I’m in the boat a lot of you are in or have been in. I’ve lurked here for years and rarely post, when I do it gets subsequently deleted.

I was that nighttime/evening drinker for years. Then I blew up my marriage and got in a new relationship that I should’ve known wasn’t good for me. I love him and there’s no abuse or anything, just two alcoholics acting like they can maintain some form of a healthy relationship. Jokes man.

A close friend who had a more serious problem than me and went through rehab, introduced the term of a ā€œhigh bottomā€ recently cause I’m such a gd functional alcoholic. If it’s not a familiar term to you, you can reach rock bottom but not be in jail, have a DUI under your belt, get blackout drunk everytime etc, feel I’ve been at a high bottom for months.

I work in accounting and I’m your classic functioning corporate alcoholic. There are even jokes made to me occasionally that make me feel like ā€˜everybody knows but we like you, you’re good at your job, just keep it chill’. The main one that shamed me fckn hard was one of my more straightforward supervisors asking me ā€œwhat are you drinking?ā€ When I cracked a can on zoom at 9am on a Saturday. Totally turned into jokes about which seltzer waters are our favorites but there’s no way they don’t know to some extent. I was def cracking a white claw.

I wake up with shakes and need a drink. I don’t fck with liquor so my morning has turned into, get through this drink without throwing up and keep it going to feel normal. I’ve been searching for IOP or home detox programs because I have a kid and want to maintain appearances at my job.

I’m just so lost, exhausted, and scared. Thank you if you read all of this.

Have I pigeon-holed myself or is this just alcoholic thinking?

I’m on a burner account because I think I’m doing something wrong which is textbook I know

I have been sober for a few years ā€œkindaā€. I for sure had/have a drinking problem. I don’t drink publicly anymore. I never made an ass out of myself in public, it was only in private, ever. It resulted in me basically battling for two years to convince friends I actually needed to stop and I did for the most part. I actually enjoy not drinking at events now. It’s a lot of pressure lifted. I’m not even tempted now in public, it’s just who I am. That’s the hardest part right, trying to convince the public you are no longer a drinker.

I am still drinking, over the past year or so. Only every other weekend or so. I’ll buy a six pack privately and drink half or close to whole and fall asleep on a friday on the couch. Wake up and do yard work and save the rest for next weekend. I recently left the WFH job I had in the peak of my serious alcoholism and now work very actively. I can’t imagine being hungover at work. It would be awful.

I know it’s not right and I guess I’m looking for some justification here. Has anyone ever drastically changed their life (WFH to in person) and realized they can control? I’ve been in AA I understand the theory there. I just have no problem nowadays only saving the secret drinking (I hate this) for only Fridays. And I get to thinking am I not drinking in public anymore just because I was caught in the WFH pandemic wave and now we are free? I know what AA would say, cunning etc. I guess I’m just seeing if there is anyway I could be ā€œnormalā€ after transitioning to a more meaningful job

Tapering on Naltrexone

For the past 1.5 years, I have drank every day. After realizing how many units I was actually drinking, which at the time was like 15-18, I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to get sober. Over the past few months of actually counting my drinks, I was able to shave off drinks to where 12-15 was my new ā€œnormalā€. It was still a lot obviously, but I then sought out Naltrexone and was able to start that. Since then, I am at 8 drinks a night and have been for about a week. For reference, I was previously drinking throughout the day to keep any symptoms away but can now wait until about 6 pm after weeks of trying to extend the window, so I am technically at 0% BAC for most of the day.

I hate the Naltrexone because it is making me so tired and nauseated but without it I can’t seem to make progress downward. I am thinking about just hunkering down and doing a quick taper off so I can stop taking Naltrexone. I have people around me for accountability and support with this but I am worried this is not a safe option. I am terrified of withdrawal but am not in a position to do any inpatient detox.

Anyone else quit without any help?

Daily drinker for 15 years that got out of control in the last few years. In the past year a couple bender WDs were nearly hospital level, but avoided it twice because I crafted my own home detox. Around 4 months ago I decided to finally quit drinking (for the 200th time) after alcohol ruined a vacation I was looking forward to for a long time.

Anyways, no AA, meetings, support, or anything. It's been 4 months and I don't plan on going back. I get strong cravings that pop up maybe a few times a week at this point but they don't last long. The biggest hurdle at this point is the boredom. Also, while I did drink liquor and wine, I really love beer, and now I'm "addicted" to NA beers. It sounds harmless but they are expensive, and I will drink about 8 a day to "fill the void" in the evenings. The Athletic pumpkins and Octoberfest are really good.

Did anyone else here "just quit" (without support, meetings, therapy), or is it not really recommended without having a safety net? I'm not sure how I am doing it this time.
