E-Bike Recommendations
I’m in the market for a commuter e-bike. My preferred budget is $1,500, but after some research it seems like a solid one will cost more. Any recs from people that have purchased and used one for a while within my budget range? Or some that are under $2k?
- I live in South Florida, so the heat can be brutal. Would like one that doesn’t always require pedaling. One with decent top speed is def preferred.
- While there may be instances where I have to bike further, my furthest daily commute (office, church, grocery store, etc) is less than 10 miles round trip.
- please let me know if you need any additional info to provide some solid recommendations.
- I do plan on visiting some local shops to see what options are available near me, but would like to go into it with some ideas of what to get.

Try Lectric bikes. They are great and made in Arizona. We have 2 and love them. Ours are class 2 cruisers so they top out at 15mph. We ride for leisure and typically they are lees than 10 miles. Lectric makes faster bikes, but we didn’t care about going above 10mph. Ours were $1500 each and we got them last year.

Lectric may be headquartered in AZ, but they are most assuredly not making bicycles there. I have a first gen XPedition, and know folks with a couple of different XP and XPress generations. All of us have good things to say, as the bikes are good value for money, and the support has been solid.

Thank you. I was actually looking at the XPress2 from Lectric. $1,399. But then you read the reviews, which range from "greatest bike ever, no issues!" all the way to "worst bike of all time. I had to change the battery a billion times and it gave me an STD." So that's why I will be visiting local stores, but thank you for the recommendation.

Yeah I wouldn’t get a Lectric bike. They are one size fits most and they don’t have any local serviceability if something goes wrong. Brands I’d look at are Velotric, Aventon, Priority, Ride1up, Urtopia, and. X-Lab

Thanks, was considering the Velotric Tempo Ebike as well. I'm 5'8", so seems like most bikes will be fine. Will look into those other manufacturers as well. Appreciate it

I recommend Velotric if you have an LBS nearby with them see if you can get a test ride.

That's what I have been thinking of getting too. Class 3, pretty lightweight. Can add racks. Decent range.

If the tempo style ebike is what you are aiming for I’d get with the Utopia Carbon Classic, Ride1Up Roadster V3 Suspension, or the X-lab SP5+.

I really like that X-Lab bike. That mid drive motor is really dialed in and it works well with a throttle. Not many mid-drives work well with a throttle.

Hey, one of the WKND founders here, we make ebikes out of Atlanta. Your use case (short daily rides, heat, wanting throttle so pedaling is optional) is a pretty easy one to solve for, even with the budget stretch. Our bikes run $1,996, so a little over your ceiling, but that gets you a handlebar throttle you can use the whole ride, Class 2 with a 20 mph top speed, and up to 45 miles of range, which comfortably covers your 10 mile round trips with plenty of margin for Florida heat days when you don't want to pedal at all. If $1,996 works as a stretch goal, wkndbikes.com has the details. If you want to stay closer to $1,500, look for the same basics (throttle, not just pedal assist, and a torque sensor rather than cadence sensor for smoother power delivery) since that combo is what will actually make hot, short commutes feel easy.

For Florida you probably want high water resistance since you can get frequent afternoon thunderstorms out of nowhere. The Velotric Discover 2 is on sale for $1499.
