Discussion This feels wrong..

It just feels wrong when you only get 132 crown gems from a duplicate radiant apex mount. Every item SHOULD award at least 1/3 of the total gems needed to buy the item. 132 is only 1% of the gems needed to buy the cheapest radiant and 0.5% of the gems needed to buy the most expensive radiant apex.

132 for a duplicate radiant apex??? that's disgusting

What's disgusting is how much gems this guy has. He's the problem. Spending countless of dollars on a video game.

u/JefferyLebowski_ 45m ago

Well if he has money like that, im jealous and I can't hate. But if he has a gambling addiction and is putting that shit on credit then it feels bad. Im guessing it's the lots of spare money.

Brother has over 12 thousand on the second pic..

Brother is target audience

u/SeesWithBrain 7h ago

OP responded to me with a pic of his crown gems at like 25k and then deleted it lol. He’s buying up all the crates

25

u/Neither_Style48 6h ago

Yeah, players like these are literally the reason why the crown store is the way it is. Everything is so expensive because these crazies will spend thousands of dollars without hesitation. Honestly makes me angry to see one in the wild having the audacity to complain.

It's easy if your a subscriber and just don't spend the free monthly crowns. They can start to add up after a while.

Never spend them on crates, crates are garbage, and use gems and seals for cosmetics.

Crowns only useful for notable houses imo.

Crown gems not crowns

There's a current pursuit thing where you get I think 20 total crates from completing 18 challenges and most of them are ridiculously easy, just time consuming. I got it done in 3 days of casual play.

Edit: Someone replied saying "20 crates is not a lot" but deleted it before I could reply.... Uh... yeah 20 FREE crown crates for a few hours of gameplay definitely IS a lot.

The “please don’t hate us, here’s 12 crown crates for free” pursuit

u/Hazel_RAAA Ebonheart Pact 9h ago

I think it's actually a very clever marketing technique, since two of the four crates are in the store. Didn't get what you want? Well, you know what to do 🤑

7

u/HerculesMagusanus 5h ago

It gets better - it's not just two of the four. They're rotating in the other two crates before the Golden Pursuits ends. Yay for FOMO!

u/shinzakuro 2h ago

Im so glad Im completely over my FOMO with ESO when they switch to "seasons". I dont even look season rewards lol.

That pisses me off even more…

Probably the only useful thing I got out of my Pursuit crates so far was Crown Tri-Restoration Potions...to add to the 800 I already have.

3

u/Grasshoppermouse42 5h ago

Yeah, I already got fifteen of the crates just through playing the game normally, not even going out of my way to do the crate specific activities.

I mean, the comment you replied to was definitely setting the bar for what is "a lot" at "enough to earn at least three radiant apex mounts" or "enough to earn over 12k gems."

u/Ill_Theme5913 10h ago

Better question, when did carnival crates come back?

2

u/Outrageous-Cycle7626 Daggerfall Covenant 9h ago

Is it actually? Too lazy to log in lol

u/Grzechoooo 9h ago

You get various crates from the Golden Pursuit and from the Battle Pass

u/Neither_Style48 6h ago

Look at his disgusting amount of gems and you'll see the answer.

When crates were first added way back in...2015?...(damn) a lot of them did reward more gems iirc.

Like the potion rewards used to be pretty decent on returns from what my guild at the time was saying.

Then those ofc got nerfed.

ah, the good ole days

u/aiden_33 Tank/Healer/Solo 2h ago

December 2016, the first crate was the Storm Atronach. Before it went live, the crates didn't have any pity system or RNG endpoint - it was pure RNG. We basically had to fight ZOS to get them to add the gem system. Lots of people boycotted crates back then just for that.

23

u/CaliAlpha 9h ago edited 9h ago

I do understand the whole RNG aspect of crates and it really doesn’t bother me much except for this reason right here.

Radiant Apex rewards should be curated and NEVER duplicate, unless the reward amount for the duplicate is 1200 or 1600 or 2500 gems, obviously depending on which mount you got.

133 is just like a joke in many ways considering the pain in the ass it is to pull an apex radiant card in the first place. So as a regular crate buyer, I fully understand this OP.

21

u/Living-Mango-9588 9h ago

Yes it is wrong. AND EVERYONE SHOULD LITERALLY STOP BUYING THIS SHIT. it's gambling.

32

u/Healthy_Armadillo885 10h ago

Welcome to gambling 🎰 😒

21

u/alvehyanna 10h ago

The house always wins.

1

u/_Taleof2Cities 5h ago

Except 'Don't Pass' in Craps ... where you actually get to play with the house.

10

u/oakleyman23 10h ago

DAMN... Save some RNG for the rest of us!!

u/shinzakuro 2h ago

This dude force break their RNG with 10000 crates.

9

u/Drackar39 7h ago

Yeah every single thing about the crown crate system is exploitative and wrong.

8

u/rainbownthedark 8h ago

Yeah, that’s why the only boxes I open are ones we get free like we’re getting in Golden Pursuits right now. The thing is, ZOS will just keep doing that shit unless people stop paying for it, so if you want it to change, don’t buy the boxes.

13

u/Neither_Style48 6h ago

Brother you have THOUSANDS of gems!

You are the problem! How much money have you spent on freaking crown crates? You just admitted to getting a duplicate radiant apex! Do you know how many crates a player has to open for that to happen?

You complaining after spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a video game. You need to fix yourself. You have a problem.

-3

u/---Hummingbird--- 6h ago

$20k, plus about double that from crown sellers/gifting. I don’t see how it’s a problem to financially support the work the developers put into something I’ve greatly enjoyed. I believe it offsets the costs for a very large portion of players who can pick up the game for $6 on a sale and enjoy thousands of hours.

Not necessarily complaining; just pointing out that it feels a little wrong when everything else is 33% of the gems for duplicates

3

u/KinneKted PS-NA | Fuegoleon Lumaste 3h ago

I'm with you, it's very scammy. Like it's so incredibly rare for someone to roll a second of the same radiant they should give more gems.

u/tinacopper Aldmeri Dominion 1h ago

Just some food for thought: you can support the developer's work by so many ways, like the most obvious one - directly buying their creations from the crown store, like houses, mounts, outfit styles etc.

What you are supporting is legal gambling and based on the huge amount of money you mentioned spending it is clear you are addicted. Go get help before it gets any worse. The developers do not give a s*** that you are buying 1000 crates, they did not create those potions and scrolls 1000 times so that you may get them, they made them once many years ago and did not revisit. So this argument is not valid, it only looks like a problem from here.

7

u/Individual-Arrival86 5h ago

Regardless of how people feel about buying them or whaling.

It is inarguably heinous that a radiant apex would only convert to 132 gems lol. That’s insane.

9

u/Everyoneheresamoron 9h ago

I did not recieve any mounts (and only 1 thing worth 33% of the gems required to get it) from my free crates, but I feel for those spending hundreds if not thousands on crates trying to get the gems for the radiant Apex.

The return on them has almost always been a horrible deal.

5

u/turtleneckless001 9h ago

No need for sympathy, they know the rules. I do feel sorry for the ones going in expecting something a bit better but if you don't learn fast then I'm sure there's a perfectly good adage

1

u/---Hummingbird--- 9h ago

Typically, you’ll get the cheapest radiant apex mount in about 125 crown crates

3

u/Everyoneheresamoron 9h ago

So to buy 125 crates, You can get that with 8 x 15 crates (8*5000) + 4 crates (1500) + 1 crate (400) or 41900 crowns. The 21000 pack costs $150, then you'll need 20900 which you might as well just pay for another 21000 pack. If its on sale that radiant costs half so $150, if not then around $300.

1

u/Everyoneheresamoron 9h ago

You know how many radiant apex mounts I got before they added styles and furniture to the crates? I have 6. I maybe spent $100 on them total. Its a shame I deleted that account because it was on a console and I was tired of paying $70 a year just to play.

6

u/kd3rty 9h ago

thievery

3

u/silvermatrix03 5h ago

You used to be able to get 400 gems if you had a duplicate radiant apex. I think they changed that when they restricted gifting crown crates and DLCS freely because of all the scamming. Now you have to email zos so they can verify your account as a crown seller.

3

u/Formal_Philosopher89 5h ago

Wtf I NEVER get apex mounts.. and you're getting duplicates?!?! ...I think... I'm going to be sick.

2

u/Accomplished-Shock-8 2h ago

Tbf, this could have taken 1000s of crates 😅

2

u/alay_NB Imperial 6h ago

Raging at the Casino, eh?

2

u/Not-That_Girl 10h ago

Only! I didnt know it even went that high! But yes, its too little

2

u/---Hummingbird--- 10h ago

132 is the amount you get from a duplicate apex mount that cost 400 gems. Radiant apex mounts can cost 2,500 gems. You get 33 gems from items that cost 100 gems and so on

2

u/EmpressEmmie 7h ago

I just want to get rid of the poisons and other things out of these crates. You can’t sell them to a vendor. Can’t return all the skins, tattoos and pets that clutter my inventory. I stopped buying crates b/c the junk was piling up and deleting it individually was tedious.

4

u/---Hummingbird--- 7h ago

You can extract them for gems. The gems add up

1

u/cawkX 3h ago

There’s no pity/dupes system? Damn.

u/GnuChanOS-yt Khajiit 1h ago

yeap same i just open 10 and i get shit then i just left lootbox quest

u/Relative_Night_6950 1h ago

J acheté pas de caisses trop chères a mon gout j étais contente de récupérer un peu de truc dans 10 ans peu être une belle monture 😂

1

u/syzygialchaos Khajiit 7h ago

Honestly, these rewards should be curated to things you don’t already have. I only got 1-2 non-potion things from the crates I didn’t already have from all 20? Crates

0

u/russellvt 10h ago

The reasoning likely goes around the idea that you have five cards there ... not just one. So each card only gets maybe 1/5th of the total value

1

u/---Hummingbird--- 9h ago

Typically you get 1/3 of the gems. Apex rewards cost 400 gems to buy, and so you get 132. Legendary rewards are 100 gems to buy and so they award 33 gems. The ones that cost 40 give like 5
