This community makes it seem like the rest of the world is adapting very well to the EVs and the US is struggling.

Why is that?

Honda has launched a fully electric motorcycle this year, which they say is a urban commuter vehicle given its claimed range of 140 kilometers.

Naturally, as a someone who really loves electric vehicles and has no range anxiety, I took the bike for a tour consisting of two days, multiple mountain passes in Switzerland and wanted to know: does it work? As far as I could tell, apparently no one else had done it yet and posted it on the internet. The WN7 deserves to shine now.

It did work and brilliantly so. First off, I was surprised how long the battery lasts. The first day, which had a shorter distance than the second, out of eight hours driving (Zürich to Klausenpass to Einsiedln and back to Zürich) only one hour in total was charging time.

On the second day, we rode from Zürich, to Flüelapass to Samnaun and back. By distance and time it was much longer. Still, on the ride to Samnaun only three stops were necessary (about 35 minutes in total).

I was using standard mode for the road and sport for the mountain passes. Also I was not trying to save energy in any way, but rode it rather hard.

CCS2 charging worked everytime like a charm and until 50% battery with a power of 22 kW, until 70% with about 17 kW but after that it ranges from 6 to 4 kW.

The bike is as well made as you'd expect a Honda to be. The punch of it depends on the mode, which in impression only affects the throttle response. So in Econ, the power or top speed are not limited, only the throttle response is slower. In Sport mode there is not a boost of any kind as far as I could tell, only the response was crazy quick. I do not know if the modes change more about the bikes power, I could only tell throttle response.

Would I buy one? Yes.

Is the range an issue? No, most of the time I needed a bio break before a charging stop.

The only awful thing about it is the extremely hard seat, which is why I used my touring seat cushion.

It is also very funny to ride up to a charger, because of the surprised looks by everyone else.

Edit: I looked up my distance between charging stops and how much I charged.

I started at home from my wallbox at 100%

Ride: 100% -> 21%: 82 kilometers Charge: 21% -> 78%: 3,891 kWh Ride: 78%-> 38%: 61 km Charge: 38%-> 80%: 4,2480 kWh Ride: 80% -> 21%: 62 km Charge: 21% -> 61%: 3,891 kWh Ride: 61% -> ?%: 44 km (I missed to record the state of charge) Charge: ? -> 100%: 7,515 kWh at home

It was a mix of highway, country roads and mountain passes and 220 kilometers in total the first day.

The second day I did not record anymore, as I focused on enjoying the ride and having felt confident that the range would work comfortably

We have a new 2027 EV5 Wind, in Canada. Love it. 4,500 km in the past month. We make quite a few long day trips (we farm, and use the EV to transport our products to the farmers market and also have kids sports and camp day trips from time to time). We realize that using level 3 chargers and charging at home at level 2 to 100 percent (and allowing the charge to dip below 20 percent before the trip ends) can over time negatively impact the longevity of the battery. But which is worse? Which is better? Obviously charging at home is cheaper than regularly using level 3 commercial chargers. Love to hear what folks with real knowledge of these batteries has to say about this topic.

Maybe this isn't breaking news. But I used to own a legacy Model Y (AWD) and it seemed good, I was coming from an old Suzuki so it felt pretty great to me.

It later got totalled by someone and about 1 year later I bought a Model Y Juniper (RWD). I did immediately feel the difference and liked it better for its ride quality and sound proofing.

For about 2 years I haven't ridden in any pre-facelift models until yesterday...

And dear lord. Those things are awful. All squeaky and rattly. Crashes onto bumps. I really had to have them side by side (meaning no gaps of many months) to notice how big the difference is. Night and day.

Just a tip if anyone is looking at used models, this is a huge factor. Try out pre and post facelift.

Very few of the EVs out there are "cool." They are mostly generic appliance-like vehicles.

Edit: ok maybe I should have said "affordable" EV even though almost all the EVs are unaffordable, even the "affordable" ones.

Maybe the only "cool" EV to me is the Ioniq 5. That's about the only one though! Eh..Maybe the Polestar 2 is cool. It has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to it I guess. I drove one and it felt really nice.

Why are there very few "cool" EVs? Why aren't the manufacturers making anything interesting or cool that stands out while instead making generic appliances that aren't fun or interesting to drive?

New Honda Prelude? COOL!

Mazda3 AWD Turbo? COOL!

Toyota Corolla GR? COOL!

Mazda MX5? COOL!

Nissan Z? COOL!

Ford Bronco? COOL! (Though from what I read, a horrible vehicle, do not buy it.)

I’m interested in a Cayenne S EV and have been looking for a recent USA review where they give a good opinion on the standard suspension vs active ride in the real world testing.

I’ve seen some high level older videos on it but I’d like to see a recent USA or other English review in real world driving.

I’m passively car shopping and this is on my radar as my number 1 choice and not sure if I should get active ride or not.

I’m holding out as long as I can for a Panamera EV though. But if I’m forced to get something before then I’d probably go Cayenne S.

It appears to be maybe the most sorted and well rounded premium EV available in USA now.

I get the concerns... but I can't help feeling that the American consumer is the real loser here.

I’ve wanted one since they first came out out. I finally had the ability to get one. I drive for a living and today was the most fun I’ve had on the job. I-pedal is so much fun. Woohoo no more gas!!

This is definitely needed.
