Question

Hello all! My name’s Adam. I’m 43 and have been unhappy in my current profession. Have always had a hobby love of drones so I decided to explore that path. I was accepted to embry and getting ready to sign up for the uncrewed systems associates degree. My question is has anyone else that is currently in the program or graduated from the program, have any advise for me? Is there anything you would have done differently or I guess when you graduated how long before you had a job and are you happy with the path you took? What job do you currently have and is this an overall good idea with the limited knowledge you have of my situation?

ASCI 121 freshman here — need some study advice for the exams

Hi everyone, I'm a freshman in ASCI 121 and I have a few questions — could use some advice from upperclassmen. I really want to score high on the exams.

Is it enough to just understand and memorize whatever's on the slides in the professor's module, or do I need to go dig into each item on the class plan individually (like PHAK Chap 1, AIM 1-2, FAR 61.23) and study those separately too? There's so much to cover that I'm starting to get confused. Honestly, more than half of PHAK Chapter 1 doesn't seem all that useful either.

Also, before the first exam, do you think just studying everything on the professor's exam review sheet is enough to get a good score?

Lastly, any tips on which book(s) to actually study from? I already know what the required books are, but there's so much material scattered across different sources — is there a good way to study it all at once (like an app or something)?

Thanks in advance!

What can you do with an aeronautics degree?

Currently pursuing an aeronautics degree online until I leave the Army; which I will then transfer my degree to aeronautical science - flight at daytona. In the event I cannot pursue piloting, what can I do with an aeronautics degree as a career? Couldn't find anything substantial online

Is it normal to not have a strong aviation background if one at all??

I’m a freshman ATC student at Embry-Riddle with the goal of becoming an air traffic controller. I’m currently taking Intro to Air Traffic Management, but I feel like almost everyone else in the class already has a strong aviation background. We’re doing a baseline quiz right now and honestly, I feel like I don’t know the answer to a single question. 😭 I didn’t come into ERAU with much aviation knowledge, so I’m wondering if this is normal or if I’m seriously behind.

Dropping flight courses

I have decided to discontinue my training at Riddle. I plan to switch my major to Aeronautics and finish my training at a Part 61 school. I know this would disqualify me from getting my R-ATP, but I plan to work as a CFI for a while, so it really makes no difference to me. Does anyone know how I can give up my flight block while I work on switching majors?

ERAU WW campus

Hey everyone! I just got accepted to Embry-Riddle Worldwide for a Bachelor’s in Aeronautics and have a few questions for current/former students:

-How did you find scholarships? I’m 100% self-funded unfortunately.

-Are there any clubs or organizations I can join?

-Any general tips or advice?

Thanks!

Doctorate in Aviation Program (WW)

I am trying to get thoughts and opinions on this program from those who have sought it out or are actually in/completed the program.

I’ve gotten my bachelors and masters through ERAU in Aeronautics (with some UAS stuff) and am/will be flying military and, afterwards, commercial. I do hope to do some teaching on the latter end of either as I’ve found that instructing has been a joy in my previous military experience. I understand that there is a stark difference between flight instruction and institutional teaching, but the knack for being a part or full time professor (such as at ERAU) near the end of life sounds like a good deal.

All of that said, what has the experience been like and have there been practical teaching and research opportunities that have opened up as a result? or would it be more worthwhile to get at a more education-focused masters? Genuinely curious. TIA!

Incoming Freshmen

I'm an international student who have recently been admitted for BS in Aeronautical Science at Prescott. I have so many questions regarding campus life, scheduling, required documents, general advice, etc. Having previously visited the campus before, my first impression was that the area was pretty empty, so what are sm things out there for students to do other than sit in their dorms and study till the end of the universe?

Aeronautical program ERAU

So my daughter has started ERAU Daytona as a sophomore but is in the Aeronautical program. She plans to finish her PPL by summer of 2027. She wanted to switch to Aeronautical science but the counselor said she can’t since she is starting as a sophomore she wouldn’t have time. She wants to obtain her FAA License through Embry since it requires less hours . Are there any suggestions or advice?

What Happens If Flight Training Goes Past Your Academics?

International AS student here and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

This Fall will be my RCL semester. I’m starting Commercial this Fall and would really like to complete both Commercial and Multi at Riddle. My concern is that I’ll most likely finish my academic classes before I finish my flight courses because I had a lot of transfer credits.

Has any international AS student here been in this situation? Were you able to remain enrolled and maintain F-1 status while finishing your flight courses after completing the rest of your academic requirements? If so, how did ERAU/ISSS handle it?

I’ve already reached out to International Student Services for an official answer, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally gone through this.

Finding meal plan enrolled

Hello how do I find which meal plan I'm currently enrolled in? I remember being able to select something when I did the housing application but couldn't find any details about it when I revisited it.

ERAU veteran

Hello,

I’m separating from the military after six years of active duty and will be attending Embry-Riddle’s Oakland campus to pursue my B.S. I’ll be using my GI Bill and plan to receive MHA to help me get on my feet financially while I transition and look for a full-time job.

My question is, how strict is the once-a-week in-person attendance requirement to be considered a full-time, in-person student? My concern is that once I find a full-time job, my work schedule may make it difficult to attend in person every week. Would missing some of those in-person sessions affect my full-time/in-person status or MHA eligibility?

Course materials question

I’m an incoming freshman at ERAU Prescott, and I’ve been receiving emails about buying course materials. I went to the ERAU Bookstore website, and it’s telling me I have to purchase(rent) a math textbook for $140. I’d rather not waste money on a textbook I can find online for maybe way cheaper or free, so I’m wondering if i can get away with not buying it or is it something I have to get?

Chanute

I am assigned to live in Chanute (Daytona Beach) this year and don’t have a car. I’ve heard the shuttle is unreliable, and I’ve heard that e-bikes and e-scooters aren’t permitted. Does anyone have any advice on commuting to campus from Chanute?

ETA - I’ve heard the shuttle doesn’t run during finals week or study days, or after 8pm. Three days a week I won’t be leaving campus until 9.
