Tbh I’ve always been convinced he only wants Greenland to invade Canada. He has mentioned over and over that he wants it for military purposes. Thing is though, they are already allowed to station troops etc in Greenland due to NATO. But if he goes for Canada he will no longer be able to. Canada will get support through Europe and come from the east over Greenland. Taking it first would cut Canada off from the rest of Europe and defend against NATO/Europe from supporting Canada.

There is a current controversy where a US petroleum company brought drilling equipment into Greenland without letting authorities know, which bypassed some permitting laws. They have some drilling rights that were given out 7+ years or so, but they need local approval to install equipment, which they are trying to do. So he's whining about US interests being obstructed by unfair environmental laws, which is more proof he should get to take Greenland, the oil will greet him as liberators or something.

This dane is getting very tired of this, but i'm not really afraid that anything will come of his bravado. If he was actually willing to take Greenland by force, he would have done so by now.
I think the Trump administration's plan for now is to use soft power to acquire Greenland, but they don't realise that they are utterly useless scrubs at this. American conservatives have completely fallen for their own propaganda about how everyone dreams about coming to the US, so when they actually go abroad, they act like bulls in a china store.

And Denmark is not alone. The Nordic countries combined are actually a quite formidable force, and with France, Germany and the UK all indicating they stand with Denmark, the US might not actually be able to take Greenland by force if it came to it. They don't have a very impressive track record in land wars, and that was back when they had allies.

Its taken seriously but also dismissed.
Steps are taken for it to become as politically expensive for them to move on Greenland as possible while outwardly dismissing the comments and continuing to act as if the US is still an ally to remove any casus belli that might decrease the expense itll cost them.
Its probably also resulted in a shift towards Greenland remaining part of Denmark in perpetuity. Greenlanders have been vocal about independence for a long time but this overt threat has put into perspective what them standing alone would entail.

He said he'd have a better healthcare plan on day one of his first presidency.
He said no wars, then changed the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War.
He said Mexico would pay for the wall.
He said private donors would pay for the ballroom.

The world must be so confusing to Trump. Everyday he wakes up with delusions and has to relearn how weak the US is under him and how little power he has. Then the next day he wakes up again and has to relearn. Dementia must be a really hard disease to work through when your president.
