One week til the main release. If you have feedback from demo, please send it to Koei Tecmo here:

It’s likely too tight to influence any day 1 patch but for future release they might consider fan feedback if enough people comment.

Discussion in desperate need of crimson butterfly. 🦋

i got my sealed ff1 today, and my ff 3 was sealed when i bought it but couldn’t help to open it and play it. but i have access to a good amount of sealed ff3’s so I wasn’t too worried about it. but im in desperate need of crimson butterfly before i play the remake on my ps5. i really want to keep the first 3 fatal frames strictly on my ps2 but i haven’t found a ff2 on ebay that i really love yet. if you know anyone let me know or send me links. im fine with sealed copies and fine with good/great quality used ones.

Discussion I wish 2 remake had the wii endings/cutscenes

2 Remake is my favorite version of the game by far because of everything it added (2 was always my favorite story in the series but I always found its gameplay to be weaker than its other games on the PS2) both gameplay and story wise but my one sore spot is the fact that they omitted the wii version's endings which were peak and added so much to Mio and Mayu's characters (Frozen Butterfly is a VERY misunderstood ending that does not shine nearly as badly on Mayu's character as people think it does and Shadow Festival is the most beautiful tragic ending I've ever seen). They technically kept the scenes from the wii version that were added to the game but I feel they worked better in DCB because they were actual cutscenes and they played out slightly differently.

Sprouting Wings is an amazing ending (Probably the best Happy Ending in the series) but I wish we could have kept the most horrifying and most tragic endings to really balance them all out. The Crimson Butterfly Ending is a great sad ending but in terms of pure horror you don't get any better than Frozen Butterfly and The Abyss Ending is so short compared to all the others. I would have loved to have a fully definitive edition story and gameplay wise so I could have just gone back to the original for the fixed camera angles and dropped DCB entirely because while it (IMO) plays better than the original it isn't THAT much different in content to justify playing it along with the other two back to back in a series marathon.

Anyone else feel this way?

Discussion Which game had the worst ghost hands?

Obviously the best usage of this mechanic is 2 remake. But which game did it the worst?

I have played a ton of horror games in the 9 years I have been a fan of the genre, and when it comes to environment and setting, nothing has beaten Himuro Mansion; it is unmatched in my eyes.

Question [FF2 Remake] Upgrades disappearing but points are deducted…

I tried upgrading my Paraceptual filter several times and then decided to reload an earlier save. At that moment, the points were deducted on every save but the upgrades are gone from even the latest save. So basically, it deducted all the points I spent but the upgrades are gone too. I’m considering starting the game over. I’m only on Chapter 2.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Question [FF2 Remake] Osaka House boss struggles…

Post image
46 Upvotes

I’m at my wit’s end here and don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’m mainly using type-14 film because 90 does almost no damage. I thought 90 was supposed to be better? I am patient, dodge her grasps, and wait until she is up close and there are 4-5 red dots lined up in my shot but I’m just doing very little damage. When I do put the boss in a FF panic screaming state, I try to take an immediate shot and there’s usually a delay before I can. When I do get a shot off, I see a notch in her health bar, supposedly indicating it should be a massive hit to her, but it only does a fraction of the damage. Any time I get her health low, she just heals up a massive amount…and I have to start all over again…with less film.

I used my upgrade points to shorten the reload time, which was ridiculously slow. Really not sure what else I can do here. Did I miss something?

Playthrough Newcomer here, just finished the PS2 trilogy for the first time my thoughts.

Decided to play all 3 OG's before playing the remake of 2 here is how I feel so far.

Fatal Frame:

  • Tough as nails classic SH very much in the vein of the orginal US Release of RE1 before it got nerfed with the Directors Cut. I had to start over on Night 3 due to not having healing items but my second attempt went rather smoothly
  • Scare factor was pretty solid I never truly felt safe and every ghost encounter felt like it could end me.
  • Story was a mixed bag for me I had trouble following it but the gameplay was so good I didn't care
  • 9/10 overall plan to replay this on Xbox soon!

Fatal Frame 2:

  • Combat was heavily nerfed and imo far too easy as ghosts dished out very little damage and the game gave you endless healing times. I honestly didn't die once until the final tunnel at the end
  • Gameplay loop overall, despite this was very addicting and I found myself playing this for the longest periods of time I just loved exploring the various mini-mansions.
  • Story was a HUGE improvement I found myself actually quite invested in the village lore
  • 8/10 overall I mostly enjoyed it though the combat felt almost pointless and more of an afterthought just like classic SH2.

Fatal Frame 3:

  • This started off as my absolute favorite as the mechanics felt so refined and the combat went back to the charge up system from FF1
  • Story imo is by far the best of the series so far I was constantly reading the journals and getting invested in the games lore.
  • My biggest issues resulted from the game feeling far too long and padded, by the time I reached Hour 6 I felt that exploring the dream mansion was very repetitive just for the game to give me 4 more chapters of using similar fetch quests.
  • 7/10 overall for now maybe my opinion will improve on repeat playthroughs?

Question Seem to have encountered a glitch on Children at Play side story. Anyone know a fix?

Have the picture and book for it, have the filter but it's not giving me a proc to shoot with it. Anyone experience this? Not finding anywhere a solution, this is not NG+.

So I just beat FFV, and this chick shows up literally out of nowhere, and she disappears just as fast. I never fought her, she just seems to stalk you.

What’s her story? I know it’s a Japanese urban legend, I feel like I missed something; because it’s never explained who or what she is, or if she’s tied to the Mt. Hikamki cult.

What was your first reaction to her encounter? Did yall crap your pants like I did??

A question I have

One buring question I've had about Crimsion Butterfly ever since I beat the remake. Why the hell does Mayu keep telling Mio to run , but says thank you when Mio completes the ritual. In both cases, I think that's really Mayu talking and not Sae.

Question Fatal Frame 1 PC port?

I think a while ago, the decompilation project was announced to be finished. I assumed this meant a PC port for FF1 was on the way. Has anyone heard anything regarding its progress?

I had a dream I bought Fatal Frame and accidentally had to learn Japanese

I had a dream that I ordered a copy of Fatal Frame for PS2 on eBay, but instead what arrived was a Japanese PS2 console. This “PS2” had a BluRay button on the side, not sure how that works- and it looked quite alien with a cool pattern across it. In my dream, there was absolutely no way to play the English version on the console.

So… I decided I was going to learn Japanese on the spot- as I played, which was somehow going very well. 😭

Also, the “dream” version had PS6 level graphics and Miku’s hair was somehow even cuter! It was actually terrifying, and now I miss playing those OG games.

I had no one to tell this to, cause who could understand?! Well, maybe Reddit! 🤍

Discussion Fatal Frame 1

Post image
247 Upvotes

So I wanna preface by saying that I've played Fatal Frame 2 previously and finished it (PS2 version). I decided to go for it first because of it being the most popular FF game. It was a great game, for sure.

But fast forward to a little while ago when I decided to try Fatal Frame 1 for the first time to see what it was about (I had a craving for a classic survival horror experience and realized I haven't played it, or FF3 for that matter); I actually dare say I really prefer FF1 over FF2.

It just feels more intimate, more focused. If that makes sense. Music and ambient is so much more atmospheric than I remember FF2 being. I also remember it feeling like a ghost would pop around every corner in FF2, here they're a little less frequent but more impactful. Maybe I'm just exaggerating how often it happened in my head though, I don't know.

Though of course FF2 is a great game, I guess I just wanna show my appreciation for FF1 and how great it is, despite being less popular and having a lower reception over all.
